After reading the whole story, I would like to talk about the main characters of the story—Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff love each other very much, but they do not have the right attitude towards love, which leads to the tragedy. In Catherine’s life, she made a very foolish decision---marrying to Edgar. In fact, her love for Edgar can never be compared to that for Heathcliff. She did so, because she thought the wealth of Edgar would be useful to Heathcliff. But in reality, it did not work. She did not have a good understanding of love, which is something pure and saint. If anyone add any purpose into love, love itself lost its meaning. Catherine’s wrong decision hurt two people who love her, and even destroyed the happiness of their offspring.Heathcliff is a man full of retaliation. He loved Catherine very much, but what he did, on the contrary, added to the misery of Catherine. In my opinion, if he really loved Catherine, he should not walk into Catherine’s life again after his disappearance. Further more, after the death of Catherine, what Heathcliff did brought agony to Catherine’s daughter, as well as his own son. After reading, I have a better understanding of love. If you love really someone, his or her happiness is the thing that most matters.1——文章来源网,仅供分享学习参考。

呼啸山庄英文版读后感范文1500字(精选6篇)呼啸山庄英文版读后感1500字1Wuthering Heights, the only fiction of Emily Bronte, was published in 1847. It is a story about love and revenge. After finishing the novel, most people including me would appreciate Heathcliff for his pure, simple and untamed love which would never change until death. On the other hand, it is difficult to understand his abnormal, callous and his love for Catherine. Heathcliff was an illiberal and unscrupulous person. He loved Catherine and was willing to give up everything for her. In the north of England where the wind blew hard, the black and dirty child, Heathcliff, fell in love with a little girl, Catherine who gave him love and also misery.Wuthering Heights is an ideal heaven for those misanthropists to escape from the real life. In this beautiful but desolate world, Heathcliff as a stranger appeared. When he was 6 or 7 years old and at the edge of starving, Mr. Earnshaw, the owner of wuthering heights, saved him. Heathcliff’s childhood was unfortunate. Before he came to the wuthering heights,he was almost dead. When he was at Mr. Earnshaw’s home, he was bullied and maltreat by Mr. Earnshaw’s son, Hindley Earnshaw. However, at that moment, Catherine Earnshaw saved him, and everything became different. Catherine was a crazy and wild girl. The writer described as follows: Her spirits were always at high-water mark, her tongue always going--singing, laughing, and plaguing everybody who would not do the same. A wild, wicked slip she was. However, she was goodness and pretty. The relationship between them was developing under the lack of civilized education. Their life was tightly held together, they had to face Hindley. But their friendship broke when Catherine was 12 years old, when she met Edgar Linton a wealthy and handsome boy from Thrushcross Grange. Three years later, she agreed to marry Edger. In Heathcliff’s mind, it was Edgar who bore away his love. Thus, when he came back to wuthering heights and began his cruel revenge.Catherine lost her childhood at the time when she started to consider her future. She totally knew that it was impossible to be together with Heathcliff. She had to find the future, a wealthy, handsome husband who could give her steady life and reputation while Heathcliff had nothing. But when she married Edgar, shedidn’t feel happy at all. She remembered that she had betrayed Heathcliff and herself. Money and house brought her into nothingness. She began to cherish the memory of Heathcliff, cherished the little boy stood by her. There was no etiquette and standard but sincerity. In the wuthering heights, happiness was gone forever. Because of Hindley, Heathcliff lost the chance to learn and he was almost lost himself. Fortunately, Catherine did not give up him. He abandoned himself for his self-abased. In their love, even at that storming night, Heathcliff left. They never thought about their future, their life. Thus, shall we ask that love should be based on what? Catherine loved Edgar, but she also said to Nelly: you think me a selfish wretch; but did it never strike you that if Heathcliff and I married, we should be beggars? whereas, if I marry Linton, I can aid Heathcliff to rise, and place him out of my brother”s power. Before the difficulty, she chose to confront. On the contrary, Heathcliff chose to escape, because he had no courage to overcome it. Catherine was 15 while Heathcliff was 16, they were children. They didn’t understand what love was. They just found the happiness they had in common. We can suppose that if Heathcliff didn’t leave, and he lived with Catherine, were they happy? Were they at ease? What life did they live? Can they run crazily on the wild land? Catherine looked down upon Heathcliff’s cowardice, once she talked about Heathcliff to Isabella: Tell her what Heathcliff is: an unreclaimed creature, without refinement, without cultivation: an arid wilderness of furze and whinstone. But she had never suspected her courage. She loved Heathcliff undoubtedly, but she was afraid to be with him. Heathcliff had questioned her: You teach me now how cruel you”ve been--cruel and false. Why did you despise me? Why did you betray your own heart, Catherine? If they loved each other, why did cheat their heart? Compared with Catherine, is Heathcliff more forgivable for his insistence and self-abased?In the end, Catherine died. She was 19, and Heathcliff was 20. However, the story was not end. After Catherine’s death, Heathcliff was not likable. His maniac revenge seemed no endless. He even took vengeance on their children. Is this love? Is this resentment? Did Heathcliff love Catherine more or he hate the world more? What did he revenge for? Does for Catherine or him? They tortured each other, but they still loved each other. We can not find out the answer. But we can know that at last, they finally stayed with each other and no one can take them apart. And if she had been dissolved into earth, or worse, what would you have dreamt of then?” I said. Of dissolving with her, and being more happy still!” he answered. No matter how much misunderstanding, regret and pain they received before, now they rest in peace. Just like Catherine said: Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same。
《呼啸山庄》英文读后感
《呼啸山庄》英文读后感篇一:呼啸山庄英文读后感A Book Report of Wuthering Heights英语三班王璇 20123704Wuthering Heights is a book of Emily Bronte, published in 1847.Wuthering Heights was not well received or appreciated by the reading public, many of whom condemned it as sordid, vulgar, and unnatural--and author Emily Bronte went to her grave in 1848 believing that her only novel was a failure. It was not until 1850, when Wuthering Heights received a second printing with an introduction by Emily's sister Charlotte, that it attracted a wide readership. Today it is widely recognized as one of the great novels of English literature. It is in my middle high school that the first time I read its Chinese version and I indulged in its intricate plot and love and hate between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathclif. Hitherto, I wander why the title of this book named Wuthering heights instead of Thrushcross Grange, or Heathclif Vengeance. As a matter of fact, when I read twice in English version and look up some information online, I seem to understand the intention of the author a bit. Wuthering is used to describe Yorkshire how bad weather it is. We can find “?Wuthering? being a provincial adjective, descriptive of the atmospheric tumult to which its station is exposed in stormy weather” in book.Meanwhile, “Wuthering” imply author tell readers a twisting and sad story. To return to the novel itself, I am quite curious about the gothicelements reflected in Wuthering Heights. After finishing reading the whole story, it casts a gloom over my heart. I consider it contributes to the characters? unfortunate and miserable lives and grieve for them. At present, I learn a new writing style “ the Gothic novel”.The Gothic creates feelings of gloom, mystery, and suspense and tends to the dramatic and the sensational, like incest, diabolism, necrophilia, and nameless terrors. It crosses boundaries, mixed daylight and the dark side, life and death, consciousness and unconsciousness. Most of us immediately recognize the Gothic elements when we encounter it in novels, poetry, plays, movies and TV series. Gothic elements have made their way into mainstream writing. They are found in Charlotte Bronte?s Jane Eyre, Samuel Coleridge?s Christabel and so on.In order to create a horrible and mysterious atmosphere, the story of Wuthering Heights takes place in Yorkshire moors. In addition, Emily? s life experience coincides with those of Gothic heroines:loss of love, struggle, and death. The love between Heathcliff and Catherine is the main striking plot. Sunshine, sweet, and smile are not the main parts of their love, by contrast, the mixture of gloom, hatred , and misunderstanding becomes dominant tone in their love. This is why their love is being gradually developed into crazy and tragedy. As matter of fact, Heathcliff and Catherine are the leading role inthis novel. Through Emily?s graphic description, the images of them are vigorous. As for Heathcliff, he is a gypsy looking little boy that he was brought to Catherine?s house by her father. However, he was bullied by Catherine?s brother and he lives a very hard time in this house. Apart from Catherine, she is kind to him and loves him. Hence, Heathcliff grows brutal and sullen. When he is informed of Catherine marring Edgar Linton, who is richer and higher status than himself, all his power to endure abuse are impaired immediately. Afterwards, Heathcliff run away. Three years later, he returns Wuthering heights with a big sum of money. Superficially, he is gentle and cultivated; actually, he burns a fire of revenge within his heart. He revenges himself on those who has hurt him in planned, such as, prevailing on Hindley gambling so as to squander all of his money; maltreating Hindley? son and teaching him abused words and ordering him to do servant?s jobs; inheriting Isabella?s family estate by means of cheating. Everyone will grit your teeth resentfully. In additional, the author doesn?t tell readers how Heathcliff becomes a richer and what methods used within three years to earn those money. We can imagine that he must employ the meanest of tricks due to his lack of education and know-how basing on the society.Undeniably, it is Heathcliff that cause a serial of unfortunate things led to the misery of the two family, three households, and three generations. As a saying g oes, “a person?s poor situation can always attribute to his own fault.” Vice versa: maybe a hateful person has to do something bad for some reasons. In Heathcliff?s opinion, everything he did is regarded as a sign of loving Catherine, who betrayed him and become the Edgar?s wife though. Therefore, Heathcliff is the most tragic figure who has to suffer from the pain of lost loved one, and experiences persistent distress and annoy in the process of revenging. Summing up his life, Heathcliff is in constant sorrow through his days. In the end, I don?t hate him; on the contrary, the one thing I learned is tolerance and appreciation of people surrounding you.Catherine is an innocent and kind-hearted girl. She is the only one who cares about Heathcliff when he is discriminated and ill-treated after Mr. Earnshaw?s death. Meanwhile, she is peacockish, willful. When she is faced with choices which one she should marry, Heathcliff or Linton, she finally decides to marry a rich second generation, Edgar Linton. The reason is that marring Linton could make her become a much richer person and live a decent life while marring Heathcliff will turn out to be beggar. And all of her characteristics are closely connected with her family, and living environment and noble status.Admittedly, it?s hard to say whether Heathcliff and Catherine will live a happy life or not if she waits Heathcliff?s come and marries him; it?s also hard to say whether those figures in the novel has good results ornot in life. Methinks, I cannot rewrite the ending of this story. Just like a famous saying: character depends on destiny because their fate has been destined at the onset of this story. Alexander Pope once said, “always forgives your enemies--nothing annoys them so much.” What I have learned from their story is that if you are deliberately trying to hurt others, it will hurt yourself in return, and you will be the most miserable person. Therefore, be kind to those who once hurt you. Hard as forgiveness is, it is the first step to regain the life of well-being.篇二:呼啸山庄英文读后感Wuthering HeightsLove belongs to the best part of human nature; "" Hate "is the distortion ofhumanity, is the fall of humanity. The hero of the novel heathcliff's" love ", due to the setbacks made him become callous, terminating, his revenge to Wuthering Heights and thrushcross grange two families has brought severe disaster. He tried to freeze human around his absolute rule set up by using the "hate".But in the younger generation of hareton. Earnshaw and Catherine. Between linton, and finally to establish a sincere love, frozen, numbness of recovery of humanity, suppressed the human nature in the "love" the return of the liberation, the people have hope again. Through the novel, the author want to tell people in the world: "hate" destroy love, "love" more powerful than hate. In the real world, the last is "love" in the world. Emily. Bronte was born and live in a remote region of Yorkshire in northern England, "Wuthering heights" is the story happened. She and her sister charlotte. Bronte sister and angem. Bronte is the middle of the 19th century British famous novelist. She was born of a poor family pastor, since childhood love of literature, in the short life wrote many literary works.Around 1846, she began writing the novel Wuthering Heights, the second year in a novel published, in the third year of the disease was mercilessly killed the young life, the genius writer when she was only 30 years old.Wuthering heights was published, came under heavy criticism of blame, wasmocked as terrible, terrible, disgusting novels, nearly half a century of time can not get social recognition. Until into the 20th century, the genius of Emily and her wuthering heights was widely recognized gradually by the literary, and herreputation is becoming more and more high. The famous British writer maugham also list "Wuthering Heights" as one of the world's top ten novels.I really love this novel because it teaches me how to love and what is love.篇三:Book Review of Wuthering Heights呼啸山庄英文读后感Book Review of Wuthering Heights Wuthering heights is a famous book written by Emily Bronte. Emily is one of the outstanding poets in 19th-century. In 1819, Emily Bronte was born in a poor priest family, her father Pater Rick Brandt is an Irish priest, and her mother gave birth to six children. The Bronte sisters, two daughters and a son. Because of the family backgrounds, Emily was borned to be independent, open-minded, pure, and introverted. "Wuthering Heights" is one of the works of Emily Bronte, also is one of the masterpieces in the 19th century of British literature. This is a story of love and revenge. "Wuthering Heights" is written by the time span of thirty years, describes a complex emotional relationships of two generations between the Earnshaw family and Linton family. The whole novel can be divided into four parts. The first phase describes the daily life of Heathcliff and Catherine's childhood, their special affection is formed in this particular environment as well as their revolt against the tyrannical Hindley. The second phase focuses on the Catherine pursuit of the traditional of human love and betrayed Heathcliff and she became the mistress of thrush. She admitted to Donnelly that her love to Linton who is young, handsome man. He loves her as well as her wealth, let her to become the most distinguished woman. Catherine has said: "In my heart and soul, I clearly know I was wrong." Because she also loves Heathcliff. The third stage use a large pen and ink describing that Heathcliff’s revenge. The last part of novel is the death of Heathcliff, but revealed a new change in the thinking experience - the recovery of humanity when he understood the love between Hareton and Catherine' so we can see a bunch a hope in the tragic love story. In the novel, all of the author's effort was to create the image of Heathcliff where she pinned all her indignation, compassion and ideals. This orphan has been deprived all of the warmth of human, Hendry’s hit let him tasted the cruel of life, also he knows that his gav e up to life can not change the fate of their own humiliation. He chose to resist. Catherine had been his loyal partners. However, Catherine finally betrayed Heathcliff, married Edgar Linton. This is her own choice between the loves. At the end of the book, there are three tombs on the fields, the Linton tomb, the Heathcliff, the middle is Catherine's tomb. Catherine's betrayal of their marriage and miserable fate is the most significant turning point in the book. Catherine’s death is the objective of Heath cliff. His revenge not only let Hendry and Edgar died miserable, but also made the next generation to suffer the bitter pills. This crazy revenge is ueasonable but vividly expressed the hate and love. In the minds of women writers, love and hate is opposition but can be transformed into each other. Therefore, love and hate are opposite to each other, but also with each other uniform.Undeniable, Heathcliff and Catherine loved each others but they alllost themselves in the love relationships. Catherine married Linton because of vanity, Heathcliff thought that he had been betrayed and began to crazy avenges. Their love is the most wonderful part of the novel also the source of the tragic.I want to use one sentence to conclude the whole novel, it could be that everyone made their wrong choice in a wrong time and eventually made the tragic life, everyone regretted in the end of their life and let the next generations to suffer. We all know that the ending can’t be revolted but we’d like to see that everyone has struggled for love and happiness. 王钰20123949125班外国语。

Wuthering Heights读书报告读后感
My understanding of Wuthering HeightsIn the past 100 years, Emily Bronte and her only novel Wuthering Heights have attracted countless readers’attention and different people have different understanding and explanation. Emily almost stayed at home for all her life except several experience away from home which made her as strong as a man while as pure as a child. She refused the realty and lived on her high level imagination. Out of touch with society, she is absorbed in her meditation. Under that pliant exterior, she is ardent and passionate. Wuthering Height is more an expression for life than a vent to her hidden passion. It is a sharp contrast to her life.Wuthering Heights is on the subject of love, telling us the complex entanglement between two old families, the Earnshawn family living in Wuthering Heights and the Linton family living in Thrushcross Grange. Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange are two manors locating in wilderness of north England. They have similarities. They are both away from the popular and the people there live a traditional life in peace. Fathers have high prestige and control the whole family. However, Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange are totally different. Wuthering Heights represents storm while Thrushcross Grange represents peace and silence. The owner and the children are self-indulgent, fierce and wild, uncontrolled like the north wind in Wuthering Heights. Thrushcross Grange is a very solemn place, grand, wealthy, respectable, inorder and guarded by dogs. The people here are gentle, elegant and behave decently and children are obedient. But they are selfish, cowardly and lifeless.Everything went well before Old Earnshaw adopted a “Gipsy” child who he named Heathcliff. And Catherine, daughter of the house, found in him the perfect companion: wild, rude, and as proud and cruel as she. But although Catherine loves him, even recognizes him as her soul mate, she cannot lower herself to marry so far below her social station. She instead marries Edgar, and Heathcliff leaves. After 4 years later, he comes back for revenge and finds that Catherine is married. He uses Edgar’s sister Isabella by marrying her to get the wealth of Thrushcross Grange. Then Catherine she gives birth to a daughter, Cathy, shortly after dies. Isabella also gives birth to a son Linton who is taken by Heathcliff. He forces Cathy to marry Linton so that he can be the heir of Thrushcross Grange. Shortly after, Edgar dies. After that, as master of Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, Heathcliff compels Cathy to live with him and Hareton. Then Hareton had an accident and was confined to the farmhouse. During his convalescence, he and Cathy became close. While their friendship developed, Heathcliff began to act strangely and had visions of Catherine. He stopped eating and after four days was found dead in Catherine's old room. He was buried next to Catherine. The love between Heathcliff and Catherine is above race and morality andis ahead of time. It is beyond our grasp and is a little bit sick. In Emily’s novel, we can see that on the one hand she likes as well as commiserates this tragedy figure, Heathcliff. He lives for the only reason: love for Catherine. On the other hand, she also describes the disaster and pain he brings. He is a complex figure, an alien to the people living in Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange and even to the real England. He has nothing like the ideal English man. He is primitive, wild, riotous and energetic. At the same time, he is an evil with awesome destructive power, resulting from the suffering and torture he gets in his childhood. He gives all his love and tenderness to Catherine. So he is mean and cruel to others, even to himself and his son. His son is merciless, selfish and cowardly educated by Heathcliff. Revenge is usually reasonable for its aim of punishing bad people. Instead, Heathcliff’s revenge brings hate and fear. His lover, Catherine, shares something with him. As the daughter of Wuthering Height’ master, she is wild and cruel too. That’s the reason why she loves Heathcliff rather than Edgar. She loves Heathcliff so intensely that she claims they are the same person. However, her actions are driven in part by her social ambitions, which initially are awakened during her first stay at the Lintons, and which eventually compel her to marry Edgar. Catherine is free—spirited, beautiful, spoiled, and often arrogant, she is given to fits of temper, and she is torn between her both of the men who love her. The location of her coffin symbolizes the conflict that tears aparther short life. She is buried in a corner of the Kirkyard.I like Edgar. Edgar grows into a tender, constant, but cowardly man. He is almost the ideal gentleman. However, this full assortment of gentlemanly characteristics, along with his civi lized virtues, proves useless in Edgar’s clashes with his foil. He sees his wife obviously in love with another man but unable to do anything to rectify the situation. I like him because even though he knows his wife loves Heathcliff, he still loves his wife heart and soul. When his wife goes away, unlike Heathcliff, he tries his best to take care of his daughter. He is a good husband and a good father. Symbolism in wide rang is a distinctive feature of this novel. For example, Thrushcross Grange is the symbol of the exclusivity and Wuthering Heights is chaos and disorder. In this story, almost everything has their meanings, even a dream. There is a lot of description of nature, which indicates the figure’s emotions and inside feelings and shows the close relationship between human and nature. Meanwhile, the open fresh nature has a clear contrast with the two manors which is closed and oppressive.During the process I read this novel, I feel depressed. The only relief is that in the end Hareton and Cathy fall in love and gets married. They are another Heathcliff and Catherin; more important, they are much luckier than them. I also feel relieved for Heathcliff that he finally gets his humanity back.。

If you love really someone, his or her happiness is the thing that most matters.。

Wuthering HeightsWuthering Heights was published in 1847, and was the only novel written byEmily Bronte. As we know, Emily Bronte and Charlotte, Anne was togeth ercalled as three sisters‟ constellation 新星in the English literary history. In 1818,Emily Bronte was born in the poor priest family. With less than two years old,she and her family moved to Howard areas and lived in a remote wilderne ss,and she never left there. When she was 27 years old, she started to write Wuthering Heights, and published it when she was 29 years old. But Wuthering Heights was not well received by the reading public, many of whom (contemporaries)condemned it as sordid肮脏, vulgar庸俗, and unnatural违背人性的,变态的--and author Emily Bronte wentto her grave in 1848 believing that her only novel was a failure. It was not until1850, when Wuthering Heights received a second printing with an introdu ctionby Emily's sister Charlotte, that it attracted a wide readership. And from tpoint the reputation of the book has never looked back. Today it is widely recognized as one of the great novels of English literature.Wuthering Heights is a story of love and revenge; it is the typical Gothic 哥特式novel. It is told in the form of an extended flashback.闪回 After a visit to his strangelandlord, a newcomer to the area desires to know the history of the family--which he receives from Nelly Deans, a servant who introduces us tothe Earnshaw family who once resided 居住in the house known as WutheringHeights. It was once a cheerful place, but Old Earnshaw adopted a "Gipsy "child who he named Heathcliff. And Catherine, daughter of the house, regarded him as the perfect companion同伴: wild, rude, and as proud and cruel asshe. But although Catherine loves him, even recognizes him as her soul m ate,she cannot lower herself to marry so far below her social station. She instmarries another, and in so doing sets in motion an obsession that will dest roythem all.Wuthering Heights is not so easy to “get into” , because the description of theenvironment and the character, the portrait of this obsessive love is so dar kand somewhat off-putting. But in this novel there was the flow of the wor k in aremarkable way setting the stage for one of the most remarkable structure s.And these structures circles upon itself in a series of repetitions as it plays outacross two generations. Besides, the description of wasteland in the novelgave more impression for readers. Wasteland gives Wuthering Heights rar evigor and charm and gloomier, mysterious, wild, remarkable, full of passi on.What‟s more, it is the temperament and charm of Wuthering Heights, and canbe summed up in two ways: one is the Wuthering of humanity; the other i s theWuthering of nature.Wuthering Heights explores the philosophy of humanity. The characters i n thenovel are full of boldness, wildness and passion which is the human natur eand instinct that free from the restrict of social civilization. In this novel, passionis the key to bring the readers into the story, it does not matter of good an d evil, beauty and ugliness, it‟s a real existence for us to experience and think.Wuthering Heights is a story of love, but it is different with other love sto ry.During the whole novel, the female leading role --Catherine rarely use "lo ve" todescribe the relationship between her and the male leading role--HeathclifBut In that night she decided personally the tragic fate of her and Heathcli ff,she said …my great miseries in this world have been Heathcliff‟s miseries, and Iwatched and felt each from the beginning: my great thought in living is hi mself. If all else perished, and he remained, I should still continue to be; and if a ll elseremained, and he was annihilated, the universe would turn to a mighty stranger: I should not seem a part of it……I am Heathcliff! He‟s always, alwaysin my mind: not as a pleasure, any more than I is always a pleasure to me, butas my own being.‟ This is the real soul of Catherine, she love Heathcliff, butshe can‟t marry with him because of her selfish and the pretentious featur e.This is the paradox of love which leads to the tragic end for Catherine andHeathcliff.Wuthering Heights is a story of revenge. After knowing the decision whatCatherine made, Heathcliff left her, left Wuthering Heights. But he came backafter several years, and retaliated Catherine and all the people who had je eredand abused him before. When Catherine was going to die, he was extreme lycruel and did not give her tenderness and consolation, but said to her…you teach me how cruel you‟ve been-cruel and false. Why did you despise me?Why did you betray your own heart,Cathy? I have not one word of comfo rt.You deserve this. You have killed yourself.……You love me—then what rightbad you to leave me? What right—answer me—for the poor fancy you felt forLinton? Because misery, and degradation, and death, and nothing that Go d orsatan could inflict would have parted us,you, of your own will, did it, youhavebroken mine. So much the worse for me,that I am strong. Do I want to liv e?What kind of living will it be when you—oh, God! Would you like to live with your soul in the grave?‟ Yes, Heathc liff hated Catherine so much, because he loved her so much. He must reta liate so that he could be survival from thesadness and the broken heart. The end of the novel was that Heathcliff committed suicide, his death is a die for their love, and express his undyong love for Catherine. Before he died, he gave up the revenge of the next generation. This reflects that he h as agood nature, but because of the cruel reality he loses his nature. The recovery of humanity is a spiritual sublimation and reflects the humanitari an ideals.Wuthering Heights is a stunning novel; frightening, inexorable, unsettlin g, filled with unbridled passion that makes one cringe. Even if you do not like it, you should read it at least once--and those who do like it will return to it again and again。

of england, rents thrushcross grange in the north ofengland for peace and recuperation. soon after his arrival, he visits his landlord, mr. heathcliff, who lives in the remote moorland farmhouse called wuthering heights. he finds the inhabitants of wuthering heights to be a rather strange group: mr. heathcliff appears a gentleman but his mannerisms suggest otherwise; the reserved mistress of the house is in her mid-teens; and a young man appears to be one of the family, although he dresses and talks like a servant. being snowed in, mr. lockwood stays the night and is shown to an unused chamber, where he finds books and graffiti from a former inhabitant of the farmhouse named catherine. when he falls asleep, he has a nightmare in which he sees catherine as a ghost trying to enter through the window. heathcliff rushes to the room after hearing him yelling in fear. he believes mr lockwood is telling the truth, and inspects the window, opening it in a futile attempt to let catherines spirit in from the cold. after nothing eventuates, heathcliff shows mr lockwood to his own bedroom, and returns to keep guard at the window. as soon as the sun rises, mr lockwood is escorted back to thrushcross grange by heathcliff. there, he asks his housekeeper, nelly dean, to tell him the story of the family from the heights. several months after hindleys return, heathcliff and catherine travel to thrushcross grange to spy on the linton family. however, they are spotted and try to escape. catherine, having been caught by a dog, is brought inside the grange to in the summer of the next year, frances gives birth to a son, hareton, but she dies before the year is out. this leadshindley to descend into a life of drunkenness and waste. later, catherine talks with nelly, explaining that edgar had asked her to marry him and she had accepted. she says that she does not really love edgar but heathcliff. unfortunately she could never marry heathcliff because of his lack of status and education. she therefore plans to marry edgar and use that position to help raise heathcliffs standing. unfortunately, heathcliff had overheard the first part about not being able to marry him and runs away, disappearing without a trace. after three years, edgar and catherine are married. six months after the marriage, heathcliff returns as a gentleman, having grown stronger and richer during his absence. catherine is delighted to see him although edgar is not so keen. edgars sister, isabella, now eighteen, falls in love with heathcliff, seeing him as a romantic hero. he despises her but encourages the infatuation, seeing it as a chance for revenge on edgar. when he embraces isabella one day at the grange, there is an argument with edgar which causes catherine to lock herself in her room and fall ill. heathcliff has been staying at the heights, gambling with hindley and teaching hareton bad habits. hindley is gradually losing his wealth, mortgaging the farmhouse to heathcliff to repay his debts. while catherine is ill, heathcliff elopes with isabella. the fugitives marry and return two months later to wuthering heights. heathcliff hears that catherine is ill and arranges with nelly to visit her in secret. in the early hours of the day after their meeting, catherine gives birth to her daughter, cathy, and then dies.the day after catherines funeral, isabella isabella is dying and leaves to pick up her son with the intention of adopting him. while he is gone, cathy meets hareton on the moors and learns of her cousins and wuthering heights existence. edgar returns with linton who is a weak and sickly boy. although cathy is attracted to him, heathcliff wants his son with him and insists on having him taken to the heights. three years later, nelly and cathy are on the moors when they meet heathcliff who takes them to wuthering heights to see linton and hareton. he has plans for linton and cathy to marry so that he will inherit thrushcross grange. cathy and linton begin a secret friendship. in august of the next year, while edgar is very ill, nelly and cathy visit wuthering heights and are held captive by heathcliff who wants to marry his son to cathy and, at the same time, prevent her from returning to her father before he dies. after five days, nelly is released and cathy escapes with lintons help just in time to see her father before he dies. with heathcliff now the master of both wuthering heights and thrushcross grange, cathy has no choice but to leave nelly and to go and live with heathcliff and hareton. linton dies soon afterwards and, although haretontries to be kind to her, she retreats into herself. this is the point of the story at which lockwood arrives. after being ill with a cold for some time, lockwood decides that he has had enough of the moors and travels to wuthering heights to inform heathcliff that he is returning to the south. in september, eight months after leaving, lockwood finds himself back in the area and decides to stay at thrushcross grange (since his tenancy is still valid until october). he finds that nelly is now living at wuthering heights. he makes his way there and she fills in the rest of the story. nelly had moved to the heights soon after lockwood left to replace the housekeeper who had departed. in march, hareton had an accident and has been confined to the farmhouse. during this time, a friendship developed between cathy and hareton. this continues into april when heathcliff begins to act very strangely, seeing visions of catherine. after not eating for four days, he is found dead in catherines room. he is buried next to catherine.。
呼啸山庄英文读后感bookreview on wuthing heights
Wuthering Heights is a gothic novel, and the only novel by Emily Brontë. First published in 1847 under the pseudonym Ellis Bell, a posthumous second edition was edited by her sister Charlotte. The name of the novel comes from the Yorkshire manor on the moors on which the story centers (as an adjective, wuthering is a Yorkshire word referring to turbulent weather). The narrative tells the tale of the all-encompassing and passionate, yet thwarted, love between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, and how this unresolved passion eventually destroys them and many around them. Now considered a classic of English literature, Wuthering Heights met with mixed reviewsby critics when it first appeared, mainly because of the narrative's stark depiction of mental and physical cruelty. Though Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre was initially considered the best of the Brontë sisters' works, many subsequent critics of Wuthering Heights argued that its originality and achievement made it superior. Wuthering Heights has also given rise to many adaptations and inspired works, including films, radio, television dramatisations, a musical by Bernard J. Taylor, ballet, opera, and song (notably the Kate Bush hit "Wuthering Heights").The novel is narrated by Mr. Lockwood, who also takes a subsidiary role in the action. His housekeeper, Nelly Dean, provides a secondary narrative that is embedded within Lockwood's.Lockwood relates his arrival in the year 1801 at Thrushcross Grange, a grand house on the Yorkshire moors that he is renting from Heathcliff, also the master of nearby Wuthering Heights. Visiting the Heights to greet his landlord, Lockwood is treated rudely and coldly by its inhabitants, whose hostile relationships with one another he does not understand. Snowed in, he is forced to stay overnight, and, unable to sleep, reads the diary of a girl named Catherine Earnshaw, learning that she was a close childhood friend of Heathcliff. Later, he has a terrifying dream in which the ghost of a young girl appears at his window and begs to be let in. As he struggles to keep her out of his room, Heathcliff is awakened by Lockwood's shouts and enters. Upon hearing of Catherine's ghost, he asks Lockwood to leave the room. Standing outside the door, Lockwood hears Heathcliff sobbing and calling for 'Cathy' to come in.The next morning, after returning to Thrushcross Grange, Lockwood asks the housekeeper,Nelly Dean, to tell the story of Heathcliff, Catherine, and Wuthering Heights. She takes over the narration and begins her story thirty years earlier, when Heathcliff, a "gypsy" from the streets of Liverpool, is brought to Wuthering Heights by the then-owner, Mr. Earnshaw, and raised as his own. Both Earnshaw children, Catherine and Hindley, initially resent Heathcliff, however Catherine and Heathcliff swiftly become inseparable. Her brother Hindley continues to hate and physically abuse him, seeing him as an interloper and rival for his father's attention. When Mr. Earnshaw dies three years later, Hindley, by this time married to a woman named Frances, inherits the estate. He brutalises Heathcliff, forcing him to work as a hired hand. Catherine becomes friends with the neighbouring Linton family who live at Thrushcross Grange, and they mellow her wild personality. She is attracted to the refined, mild, and young Edgar Linton, whom Heathcliff takes an immediate dislike to.A year later, Frances dies from "consumption" shortly after giving birth to a son, Hareton. Hindley takes to drinking and becomes dangerous, at one point dropping the baby Hareton from the stairs where he is rescued by Heathcliff. Some two years later, Catherine informs Nelly that she wishes to marry Edgar Linton, as it will give her status and allow her to protect Heathcliff from her brother. Nelly disapproves of Catherine's attraction to only Edgar's physical person and status. Heathcliff overhears the conversation at Catherine's explanation that it would be "degrading" to marry him and leaves Wuthering Heights, before hearing Catherine profess her love for him. After realizing Heathcliff has left her, Catherine becomes desperate and is struck down by a fever. When she is moved to Thrushcross Grange so that the Lintons may care for her, Mr. and Mrs. Linton contract the fever and die. Edgar's attentions slowly return Catherine back to health, and some years later she marries him. She lives in apparent happiness for a few months, until Heathcliff returns, apparently transformed into a wealthy, respectable gentleman. Through loans he has made to the wayward Hindley that cannot be repaid, Heathcliff takes ownership of Wuthering Heights upon Hindley's death. Intent on ruining Edgar, Heathcliff elopes with Edgar's sister Isabella when he learns of her attraction to him. When they marry and return to Wuthering Heights, Edgar disowns his sister and she is abused by Heathcliff.Catherine is initially ecstatic at seeing Heathcliff again, but then becomes very ill after a harsh argument with Heathcliff regarding Isabella. They reconcile a few hours before her death, however, reaffirming their feelings for one another. Catherine dies after giving birth to a daughter also named Catherine, or Cathy. With no male heir, the Linton estate passes to Catherine. Heathcliff becomes more bitter and vengeful towards those around him. Isabella flees her abusive marriage a month later and subsequently gives birth to a boy, Linton Heathcliff. At around the same time, Hindley dies. Heathcliff takes ownership of Wuthering Heights and vows to raise Hindley's son Hareton with as much neglect as he had suffered at Hindley's hands years earlier. Heathcliff chooses to ignore paternal emotions (he identifies with Hareton's plight) so that he might continue to degrade Hareton as Hindley degraded him, thereby achieving his revenge.Twelve years later, the dying Isabella asks Edgar to raise her and Heathcliff's son, Linton. However, Heathcliff finds out about this and takes the sickly, spoiled child to Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff has nothing but contempt for his son, but delights in the idea of him ruling the property of his enemies. Cathy, accompanied by Nelly, and Linton, accompanied by Hareton, meet while Cathy is riding on the moors. Linton treats Hareton, who is illiterate, with equal disrespect and contempt as his father does, believing Hareton to be an imbecile. Nelly is appalled by the state of Hareton, remembering him as a bright, loving toddler. Cathy feels sorry for Linton, who knows his father despises him and is utterly miserable. Heathcliff uses his son to issue Cathy invitations to Wuthering Heights, but Edgar senses a trap and refuses to let Cathy go. Cathy's nature is much sweeter than her mother's and she reluctantly obeys her father. But when she receives news that Linton has fallen ill, she refuses to stay at home and hurries to Wuthering Heights to see if she can be of help. Heathcliff attempts to persuade her to marry Linton. With Linton's health diminishing swiftly, he puts Cathy under house arrest and forces the two to marry. Soon after, Edgar Linton dies, followed shortly by Linton Heathcliff. This leaves Cathy a widow and a virtual prisoner at Wuthering Heights, as Heathcliff has gained complete control of both Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. It is at this point in the narrative that Lockwood arrives, renting Thrushcross Grange from Heathcliff, and hears Nelly Dean's story. Shocked, Lockwood leaves for London.During Lockwood's absence, events, described to him by Nelly upon returning, reach a climax; Cathy gradually softens toward her rough, uneducated cousin Hareton, just as her mother was tender towards Heathcliff. She teaches him to read and he allows her to open up again after becoming so bitter from Heathcliff's brutal treatment. When Heathcliff is confronted by Cathy andHareton's love, notably Hareton's determination to protect the defiant Cathy from Heathcliff's attacks, he seems to suffer a mental breakdown and begins to see Catherine's ghost. He seemingly abandons his life-long vendetta and dies, having "swallowed nothing for four days". Nelly describes finding Heathcliff's corpse as lying on the bed, stiff with rigor mortis, with the window open and rain pouring in through it, soaking Heathcliff's body. Only Hareton mourns Heathcliff's death. He is buried, according to his wishes, next to Catherine in the graveyard, with Edgar's grave on the other side of Catherine's. Lockwood hastily leaves Nelly and on his walk home he visits the graves, noting the tranquillity of the spot, sharply contrasting with the turbulent lives of the characters.。

Published in 1847, WUTHERING HEIGHTS was not well received by the reading public, many of whom condemned it as sordid, vulgar, and unnatural–and author Emily Bronte went to her grave in 1848 believing that her only novel was a failure. It was not until 1850, when WUTHERING HEIGHTS received a second printing with an introduction by Emily’s sister Charlotte, that it attracted a wide readership. And from that point the reputation of the book has never looked back. Today it is widely recognized as one of the great novels of English literature.Even so, WUTHERING HEIGHTS continues to divide readers. It is not a pretty love story; rather, it is swirling tale of largely unlikeable people caught up in obsessive love that turns to dark madness. It is cruel, violent, dark and brooding, and many people find it extremely unpleasant. And yet–it possesses a grandeur of language and design, a sense of tremendous pity and great loss that sets it apart from virtually every other novel written. The novel is told in the form of an extended flashback. After a visit to his strange landlord, a newcomer to the area desires to know the history of the family–which he receives from Nelly Deans, a servant who introduces us to the Earnshaw family who once resided in the house known as Wuthering Heights. It was once a cheerful place, but Old Earnshaw adopted a “Gipsy” child who he named Heathcliff. And Catherine, daughter of thehouse, found in him the perfect companion: wild, rude, and as proud and cruel as she. But although Catherine loves him, even recognizes him as her soulmate, she cannot lower herself to marry so far below her social station. She instead marries another, and in so doing sets in motion an obsession that will destroy them all.WUTHERING HEIGHTS is a bit difficult to “get into;” the opening chapters are so dark in their portrait of the end result of this obsessive love that they are somewhat off-putting. But they feed into the flow of the work in a remarkable way, setting the stage for one of the most remarkable structures in all of literature, a story that circles upon itself in a series of repetitions as it plays out across two generations. Catherine and Heathcliff are equally remarkable, both vicious and cruel, and yet never able to shed their impossible love no matter how brutally one may wound the other. As the novel coils further into alcoholism, seduction, and one of the most elaborately imagined plans of revenge it gathers into a ghostly tone: Heathcliff, driven to madness by a woman who is not there but who seems reflected in every part of his world–dragging her corpse from the grave, hearing her calling to him from the moors, escalating his brutality not for the sake of brutality but so that her memory will never fade, so that she may never leave his mind until death itself. Yes, this is madness, insanity, and there is no peace this side of the grave or even beyond. It is a stunning novel, frightening, inexorable, unsettling, filled with unbridled passion that makes one cringe. Even if you do not like it, you should read it at least once–and those who do like it will return to it again and again.。

But the key plot is the doomed love between Catherine and Heathcliff and the cruel revenge to Earnshaw’s family and Edgar Linton’s family. In 1801, Mr. Lockwood a rich man from the south of England rents Thrushcross Grange for peace and recuperation. Soon he visited his landlord Mr. Heathcliff, who lives in the remote moorland farmhouse called Wuthering Heights. He met some strange things in here and he also encounters the housekeeper Nelly Dean. She told him the story of the family from the heights.Thirty years ago, the Earnshaw family lived at Wuthering Heights. The children of the family are the teenaged Hindly and his little sister Catherine. But soon Mr. Earnshaw brought a little homeless boy named Heathcliff to home after he travels to Liverpool. Mr. Earnshaw care more about than Hindly, which cause Hindly hate Heathcliff very much. However, Catherine grows much attached to him. Soon the two children spend hours on the moor together and hate every moment apart. Hindly was sent to college, however, he married a woman named Frances and returns three years later. After Mr. Earnshaw dies, so he soon became the master of Wuthering Heights and Heathcliff turned servant later instead of member of the family.During the spare time, Catherine often spends most hours walking with Heathcliff. At that time, they met the son of Linton family Edgar Linton at Thrushcross Grange. Edgar Linton fall in love with Catherine and want to marry her. Catherine told news to Nelly and explained that Edgar had asked her to marry him and she had accept because of Mr. Heathcliff. She loves Heathcliff and wants to help him escape the terrible situation. Unfortunately, Heathcliff overheard the first part about not being able to marry him and runs away, disappearing without a trace. After three years, Edgar and Catherine were married.Six months after, Catherine marriage, Heathcliff returns as a gentleman, having grown stronger and rich during his absence. Catherine was delighted to see him and wanted to stay with him. Edgar’s sister Isabella, a eighteen girl falls in love with Heathcliff. She thoughts he is a romantic hero. He despised her but encouraged the infatuation, seeing it as a chance for revenge on Edgar. Heathcliff has been living at heights, gambling with Hindly and teaching Hareton bad habits. When Catherine was ill, he arranged with Nelly to visit her in secret. In the early hours of the day their meeting, Catherine gives birth to her daughter Cathy and than dead.Catherine’s dies increasing the hatred of Heathcliff, so he made a plan for his son Linton and little Cathy to marry so that he will charge Thrushcross Grange. With Heathcliff now the master of Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, Cathy has no choice but to leave Nelly and to go and live with Heathcliff and Hareton. After Linton dies, Cathy and Hareton becomes the closed friend. Several years later, Heathcliff was found dead in Catherine’s room. He was buried next to Catherine. Finally Hareton and Cathy married on New Year’s Day.After reading the novel, maybe different people havedifferent opinions. But I think the Wuthering Heights of love is quire special. Emily shaping the hero, love is so ever break out. Love well, the pain of the cut. Heathcliff hatred is extremely strong. Revenge of the fire buried two family’s happy life. Catherine die, he is so pain, Catherine too his heart and soul. When he like a ghost in the call of the day and night with his lover, but he is never get. He tortured with others, also always not to hurt to pieces. For the blood of his, he had lost the all support of its own survival last pillars. So at this moment, he died. In the Heathcliff and the hero of the heart, love forever than hate chick, emotion and reason forever. They are easy to crazy, but can make people respect.I was also touched by their true love. Talking about Heathcliff, he is an evil person but I admired his love and hate is straight. Nowadays, love is reality, so everyone must have true love.。

The moors are a symbol of the wild and unpredictable forces of nature, which mirror the inner turmoil of the novel's protagonists. The setting of the moors serves as the backdrop for the novel's themes of love, revenge, and redemption. It is the place where Heathcliff and Catherine first form their bond, and where their love for each other is both nurtured and ultimately destroyed. The moors provide a sense of isolation and freedom that allows the characters to act with a certain degree of recklessness, ultimately leading to their downfall.Bronte's vivid descriptions of the moors create a sense of otherworldliness, as if the natural forces of the land have a life of their own. The landscape is depicted as vast and unrelenting, painted with shades of brooding darkness, and this reflects thetumultuous nature of the human relationships that unfold throughout the novel.Overall, the setting of the moors adds an extra dimension to the story told in "Wuthering Heights." It mirrors the characters' internal struggles, and serves as a reminder that nature can sometimes be just as unpredictable and dangerous as human emotions.7. The Supernatural Elements in "Wuthering Heights"Alongside the setting of the moors, "Wuthering Heights" also includes supernatural elements that further heighten the sense of otherworldliness within the story. These elements are often linked to the natural landscapes of the moors, and the belief in the supernatural becomes an important part of the characters' lives. One of the most striking supernatural elements in the novel is the ghost of Cathy, who continues to haunt Heathcliff long after her death. This ghostly presence represents the intense connection between Heathcliff and Cathy, and the inability of Heathcliff to move on from his love for her. It also represents the supernatural power of love and passion, which transcends even the boundaries of death. The supernatural elements in "Wuthering Heights" also serve to heighten the atmosphere of the novel, adding an extra layer of tension and mystery to the story. The novel explores the ways in which gender roles limit women in the 19th century, and how these societal expectations impact the characters' relationships and lives. One of the most notable feminist themes in the novel is the limited role that women were allowed to play in society. Catherine is constrained by her position as a woman and the expectations placed on her to marry into a suitable family. This ultimately leads to her decision to marry Edgar, rather than Heathcliff, highlighting the choices that women faced at the time. The novel also explores the concept of motherhood, and how society views women who choose not to have children. Isabella's decision to leave Heathcliff and raise her child as a single mother challenges societal norms and serves as a reminder that women have the right to choose their own path.Overall, "Wuthering Heights" reveals the limitations placed on women in the 19th century and how societal expectations impactedtheir lives. Bronte's writing showcases the complexity of female characters and emphasizes their capacity for strength and resilience.9. The Themes of Social Class and Family Ties in "Wuthering Heights"In addition to its exploration of love and revenge, "Wuthering Heights" deals with the themes of social class and family ties. The novel reveals the stark divide between the wealthy and the poor, and how this divide impacted the lives of those caught in between. The characters' family backgrounds play a significant role in their lives, with Heathcliff's lack of social status leading to his mistreatment by the wealthy elite. Similarly, Catherine's decisionto marry Edgar instead of Heathcliff is based on class considerations, rather than her true feelings for him.The novel also depicts the dysfunctionality of family ties, highlighting the ways in which familial relationships can be fraught with tension and conflict. The toxic family dynamics within both the Earnshaw and Linton households underline the danger of clinging to old grudges, and serves as a warning about the damaging effects of unresolved conflict.Overall, "Wuthering Heights" delves deep into the complex nature of social class and family ties. The intense emotions that flow between the characters are influenced by these factors, and serve to highlight the intrinsic links between personal lives and wider societal structures.10. 读后感 Wuthering heights
Wuthering heightsEmily published only one novel, Wuthering Heights, but this single work has its place among the masterpieces of English literature.Emily was born in Thornton, Yorkshire, in the north of England and died of tuberculosis in the late 1848. When Bronte sisters are young, their father asked them to read many books: the Bible, Homer, Virgil, Shakespeare, Milton, Byron, Scott and many others. The children also read enthusiastically articles on current affairs.Unlike Charlotte, Emily had no close friends. She wrote a few letters and was interested in mysticism. Her first novel, Wuthering Heights, a story-within-a-story, did not gain immediate success as Charlotte's Jane Eyre, but it has got later fame as one of the most intense novels written in the English language. In contrast to Charlotte and Anne, whose novels take the form of autobiographies written by authoritative and reliable narrators, Emily introduced an unreliable narrator, Lockwood.Lockwood, the narrator, is a gentleman visiting the Yorkshire moors where the novel is set, and of Mrs. Dean, housekeeper to the Earnshaw family, who had been witness of the life of the original owners of the Heights. Bronte draws apowerful picture of the strange man Heathcliff, who is brought to Heights from the streets of Liverpool by Mr. Earnshaw. Heathcliff is treated as Earnshaw's own children, Catherine and Hindley. After Mr. Earnshaw’s death Heathcliff is bullied by Hindley, who loves Catherine, but she marries Edgar Linton. Heathcliff 's destructive force is unleashed, and his first victim is Catherine, who dies giving birth to a girl, another Catherine. Isabella Linton, Edgar's sister, whom he had married, flees to the south. Their son Linton and Catherine are married, but always sickly Linton dies. Hareton, Hindley's son, and the young widow became close. Increasingly isolated and alienated from daily life, Heathcliff experiences visions, and he longs for the death that will reunite him with Catherine. In early time, there are many critics on this novel. Some people called it a "strange, inartistic story", but commented that every chapter seems to contain a "sort of rugged power". It supported the second point made in the Athenaeum, suggesting that the general effect of the novel was "inexpressibly painful", but adding that all of its subjects were either "utterly hateful or thoroughly contemptible".There some symbols in the novel, for example, the moors and the ghosts. The constant emphasis on landscape within the text of Wuthering Heights endows the setting with symbolic importance. Moorland cannot be cultivated, and its uniformity makes navigation difficult. It features particularly waterlogged patches in which people could potentially drown. Thus, the moors serve very well as symbols of the wild threat posed by nature. As the setting for the beginnings of Catherine and Heathcliff’s bond, the moorland transfers its symbolic associations onto the love affair.Ghosts appear throughout Wuthering Heights, as they do in most other works of Gothic fiction, yet Bronte always presents them in such a way that whether they really exist remains ambiguous. Thus the world of the novel can always be interpreted as a realistic one. Certain ghosts—such as Catherine’s spirit when it appears to Lockwood in Chapter III—may be explained as nightmares. The villagers’ alleged sightings of Heathcliff’s ghost in Chapter XXXIV could be dismissed as unverified superstition. Whether or not the ghosts are “real,” they symbolize the manifestation of the past within the present, and the way memory stays with people, permeating their day-to-day lives.I think the novel suggests us that lovers should have a healthy love, and put the needs of the beloved first.。
Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights, the only fiction of Emily Bronte, was published in 1847. It is a story about love and revenge. After reading the masterpiece, this book gave me a kind of depression and made me confuse what love on earth is. I think all the people in this novel are pitiful. Somebody even is lamentable. Everyone who read this novel would be moved. This novel is narrated by the Heathcliff, a Gypsy founding who is adopted by the owner of wuthering heights, Mr.Earnshaw. But unfortunately, he was bullied and maltreat by Mr. Earns haw’s son, Hindley and also at the same time, Heathcliff’s sweetheart Catherine who is a goodness and pretty girl forced to marry the gentle and quiet young Edgar of thrush farmstead. Heathcliff felt very angry and went out to earn more money. In Heathcliff’s mind, it was Edgar who bore away his love. Thus, when he came back to wuthering heights and began his cruel revenge.Heathcliff formed the strong love and hate in cruel life. Hindley’s torment makes him get a taste of the miserable life, and also teaches him how to weak-spiritedly yield the fate of unchangeable shame, so he chooses to rebel. Catherine was ever his loyal partner and they germinated true love in common revolt. However, finally, because of her vanity and ignorance betrayed Heathcliff who always madly loves her. This section is the significant turning point of the whole novel. It makes Heathcliff’s full of love become matchless hate. Catherine’s death makes Heathcliff’s hate burst out like a volcano, and becomes the crazy revenge power. Heathcliff’s purpose has been achieved. He not only makes Hindley and Edgar die miserably, dominate exclusively their possessions, but also let their next innocent generation suffer the consequences. This crazy revenge is seemed to be against the convention, but incisively and vividly expresses his extraordinary spirit of rebelliousness. This kind of special revolt is determined by the special environment and special character. Heathcliff’s tragedy of love is the tragedy of social, and also is the tragedy of the time. The love between Heathcliff and Catherine can be described as “Crazy”. Sunshine, sweet, and smile are not the main parts of their love, by contrast, the mixture of gloom, hatred, and misunderstanding become dominant tone in their love. This is why their love is being gradually developed into crazy and tragedy. The unswervingly loyal love between Heathcliff and Catherine in the novel is also a form of tough resistance to the vicious power. In spite of their resistance is weak, but their love in the author's pen eventually overcome death. The recovery of humanity is a spiritual sublimation andreflects the humanitarian ideals. The end of the novel was that Heathcliff committed suicide. His death is a die for their love, and expresses his undying love for Catherine. Before he died, he gave up the revenge of the next generation. This reflects that he actually has a good virtue, but the cruel reality makes him lose his virtue. It reveals complexity and depth of the human nature; it involves passion in love and hate.In Emily's pen, a person who is filled with the feelings of great holy to love, after he lost this holy, he took the cruel torment and revenge his adversary. Also this behavior unexpectedly accompanied his rest of life. What a tragic and miserable story! Our ancient story of the butterfly lovers may be able to compare tragedy with them, but how to compare miserableness with them?In the novel, the author takes all her effort on portraying Heathcliff’s image, she leaves all her indignation, sympathy and ideal in this character. It in some extent reflects what kinds of social background the author suffered. Better yet, Emily purposely created an eerie and exaggerated atmosphere. Some of the plot even seems to be something mysterious different from real world. In addition, Wasteland gives Wuthering Heights rare vigor, charm, mysterious and full of passion. It makes story carry with legendary and incisively and vividly shows the deepest love, the obsessed persistence, and the most painful struggle.Wind, rain, heavy snow, dark night and natural wild bring out the best in each character’s feeling; the bleak, profound and changeable wasteland highlights the personal characters, shows deep love from human nature and powerfully shakes the person's soul.Wuthering Heights explores the philosophy of humanity. The characters in the novel are full of boldness, wildness and passion which are the human nature and instinct that free from restriction of social civilization. In this novel, passion is the key to bring the readers into the story, it does not matter of good and evil, beauty and ugliness, it’s a real existence for us to experience and think. In generally, this novel is so excellent and is worth reading, it can arouse a deep deliberation among us.。

英文版呼啸山庄读后感英文版呼啸山庄读后感My Feelings after reading Wuthering HeightsWuthering Heights is a well-written tragedy of love. After reading the whole story, I would like to talk about the main characters of the story;Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. He loved Catherine very much, but what he did, on the contrary, added to themisery of Catherine. In my opinion, if he really loved Catherine, he should not walk into Catherine’s life again after his disappearance. Further more, after the death of Catherine, what Heathcliff did brought agony to Catherine’s daughter, as well as his own son. After reading, I have a better understanding of love. If you love really someone, his or her happiness is the thing that most matters.呼啸山庄读后感呼啸山庄读后感400字呼啸山庄读后感500字。

Wuthering HeightsZhu Siwei, Class1,2015,Foreign languages School“But if you not in this world, regardless of this world has how well, he in my eye is also only a wilderness. But I likely am a fox soul wild ghost.” ------------- Wuthring HeightsWuthering Heights is Emily Bronte’ s only novel. It was first published in 1847 and the name of the novel comes from the Yorkshire manor on the moors on which the story centers CAs an adjective, wuthering is a Yorkshire word referring to turbulent weather, the narrative tells the tale of all-encompassing and passionate, yet thwarted love between Heath cliff and Catherine, and how this unresolved passion eventually destroys both themselves and marry around them. Now considered as a classic of English literature, Wuthering Heights’ s innovative structure, which has been linked to a series of Matryoshka dolls, met with mixed reviews by critics where it first appeared. Though Charlotte Bronte’ s Jane Eyre was originally considered as the best of the Bronte’ s sisters’ works, many subsequent critics of Wuthering Heights argued that its originality and achievement made it superior.Wuthering Height has also given rise to many adaptation and inspired works, including films, radios, television, musicals and songs and opera.Wuthering Height is unique outstanding work that has no buried of guilt time, Wuthering Height, a unique glorious work that has the permanent art magic power. In order to understand this book clearly, we can divide this book into 4 parts. At the first part, Heathcliff was adopted by Catherine’s father, her father treats Heathcliff as if he is his son while her brother, Hindley, treating Heathcliff badly. When Catherine’s father died, Hindley takes the charge of the weight. At that time he insults Heathcliff while Catherine fells in love with Heathcliff. Unfortunately, Linton loves Catherine, too. He is richer and more gentle than Heathcliff. At this time he makes a proposal to her and to Heathcliff’s surprise, she agrees him which hurts Heathcliff deeply, he can not forgive her so he leaves angrily. To my surprise, although Catherine gets married with Linton, she does not love him. The only thing that she wants is Linton’s money and she will use Linton’s money to help Heathcliff! In the next part, Heathcliff comes back with his money, the reason why he comes back is to revenge everyone who insults him. He still loves Catherine and so does she. They fell in love again though it betrays morality. Since then, they have met each other secretly from time to time while Linton’s sister, Isabella has a crush with Heathcliff. What is worse, Linton knows the affair between Heathcliff and his wife so he insults Catherine by words which contributes to Catherine’s illness. In the end, she is delivered a girl and died. Hearing this, Heathcliff breaks out and becomes crazy. In order to revenge Linton, he tells a lie to Isabella and persuades her into leaving with him. During that time, she is abused by him. She does not understand that he never loves her until he beats her, so she escapes from him at the same time she has a son . Miserably, she died instantly and she asks her brother, Linton to take care of this poor kid. Linton feels painful because he loses his wife and his sister, he feelslonely and helpless. In the third part, Healthcliff finds that he has a son who is adopted by Linton, he also meets Catherine’s child, Cathy. An horrible idea strikes to his mind: He wants his son to marry Cathy so he can get Linton’s whole weight and property which will make Linton crazy so he can revenge him for robing him of Catherine. He abuses his son so his son becomes more and more weaker that he almost died in the meanwhile he forces Cathy to marry him. Sadly, his son died soon after they married. Let us look at the last part, after his son’s funeral, he forces Cathy to give her property to him, Cathy refuses his unreasonable require impolitely which causes him annoyed so he beats her again. They live in a same weight together, during these days Cathy fells love with Hareton who is the son of Catherine’s brother. Heathcliff is annoyed first but then he finds they are same as he and Catherine, he forgives them and blesses them. From then he does not eat any food and he was died on a windy and snowy day, calling Catherine’s name sadly. The story is coming to end, but I can not say this story is ended.Love story is the easiest story in this world, but also, it is the hardest story in this world, almost everyone can write a love story, but it is hard to write a really good one, to my surprise, Wuthering Heights do it.At 19th century, what people are looking for is money and frame, so do these characters, Catherine chooses Linton as her husband because of his money and frame, in order to revenge, Heathcliff also tries to make more money. Everybody’s attitude to Heathcliff also depends on money, the author used all the words and plot to show us that in that times, money means everything. However, at first, Heathcliff have almost no money and because he is an orphan, he has low social rank. In most people’s eyes, he is not suitable for Catherine but in her eyes he is the only man in this world. She said: “ I love him, not because he is handsome, Nelly, but because he is more myself than I am.” They have the same soul, they can understand each other, it is enough. This view love is very special at that time, they love each other just because they have the same personality, it is very pure and no one can make them to break up.Their love is same as the love between Jane and Rochester, but life is life, fairy tale just exists in our story books. The World is so cruel that it turns a good person into a bad one. Love can turn into hatred immediately. He hates Linton because he robs Catherine of him, but his wife, his son and Cathy are innocent, they are not to blame for Catherine’s death. But Heathcliff still blames them for this thing, which cause a lot of painful things. Hatred is just like fire which is out of the control and it will destroy all the thing and in the end, it will destroy yourself and it is endless. So does Heathcliff, in the end, he revenges everybody who insulted him, but he does not feel happy anymore. He misses Catherine, missing the old happy days especially when he sees Cathy and Hilton, which reminds him of the happy time he has gone through when Catherine. Maybe only at that time that he realizes violence can not solve anything, the only way to hurt your enemy is to forgive. Never let hatred control yourself, if you keep hatred, it just like keep a horrible snake living in your heart, finally, it will not only hurt yourself but also hurt people around you.The reason why Wuthering Height is a milestone in English literature is that it is different from other normal stories is i t’s main theme: Love is love, there is no relationship between love and money. Just like what Catherine said: Our souls are made of the same material. Although Linton is rich and famous, there is no way to force her to change her mind, she would rather die than living without him. She is just like a moth, reaching for love bravely even she might die of love, so does Heathcliff. If there must have something really pure, it must be the love between Catherine and Heathcliff, their love is still alive even both of them died. The different color in this book is also a special thing, in that time, most of films are positive, describing rich people’s perfect love, colorful city life, brilliant person, all the things which is associated to happiness especially rich people’s happiness. However, this book breaks the regular rules in writing. She focused on poor people’s true life, struggle, violence, horrible revenge, hatred. She preferred describing something grimly, or, in other word, she was longing for real, although real thing is usually horrible. This brave writing style results in a wild, countryside style, amazing work, it just likes a Whisky, not so mild, but it can wake up us, giving us a power to reach for our real love, following our hearts, just do it.This is a very brave try, she opened a new world to people at that time, announcing her view: everyone has their own right to follow their hearts, which exactly fits people’s dream. A standard for good work is that it must reflect most of peo ple’s hearts, which she did, this is the real reason that it can be regarded as the milestone in English literature. We do need some novels which do understand us real thinking, so does the society. We are looking forward to good novel, Wuthering Heights has been published for many years, but it is still famous for it’s special writing styles and deep reflection to the society, it is hard to completely understand it, it needs more time tasting it.。
