We can do our bit in this battle! I’d like to share what I have done in the past three months. To help prevent the virus from spreading, I have responded to the government’s call and stayed at home with my families. While keeping an eye on the situation, I have been studying with the help of the online course offered by our school. Communicating with my teachers and classmates online, I have never felt lonely. Besides, I have kept on doing some inside sports to keep fit and helped my mom with the housework.

Not going out is my way to fight the virus. Thinking of the medical staff, we have no reason not to discipline ourselves. We need to thank them and at the same time, treasure our life.

Please take care of yourself. Keep calm and carry on!

Yours,

Li Hua

Dear Mary,

How are you getting along these days? Knowing that the produce on your farm is hard to sell during the COVID-19 epidemic, I really feel as worried as you. So, I'm writing to share some successful Chinese experience to help you.

Chinese farmers came across the similar problem not long ago, but they came up with a creative solution: promoting goods sales through livestreaming. What you need are a computer or a cellphone with access to the Internet and a live stream platform or application for broadcasting. By taking advantage of social influencer marketing, the sellers can introduce the goods more efficiently and the buyers can watch the products visually in real time, thus, making the online trade more convenient. To ensure the quality of live streaming, make sure the equipment and the Internet are of good quality and the surroundings are quiet and free of disturbance.

I do hope that it will be helpful to you. Best wishes!

Yours sincerely,

Li Hua

Dear Jim,

Thanks for your concern and I’m glad to share my experience of e-learning.

My day begins from 8 am. I have online lessons in the morning following the school schedule. Can you believe we even have indoor P.E. classes to keep fit? In the afternoon, I read, review or preview my lessons according to my plan. In case of problems, I will ask my teachers for help or discuss with my classmates online.

Compared with classroom learning, e-learning requires self-discipline. Encouraged by my teachers and parents, I’ve become more disciplined and learned to manage time more effectively.

Having learned that you are interested in the trash-sorting program promoted recently in China, I am here writing to give you a brief introduction.

As far as I know, Shanghai has become the pioneer of our country's waste sorting policy. As of July 1st this year, the residents in Shanghai have not been able to dump their waste bags in whichever bin was closest. On the contrary, domestic waste is required to be classified into four categories: dry refuse, wet trash, recyclable waste and hazardous(dangerous) waste.

Faced with the new rule, many citizens in Shanghai are finding it a little too complicated, with every item of waste now under careful scrutiny(examination) and classification. Still, there are more people who warmly support the policy because it helps people to cultivate greener lifestyle habits and helps China to become a more beautiful country.

Li Hua

Dear Jim,

How is everything going? Hopefully everything is fine. From your letter, I’ve learnt that you are going to participate in a Chinese Poetry Recital Contest and you asked for my advice in choosing a Chinese poem for you.

I highly recommend a classical Chinese poem “A Tranquil Night”. It is written by Li Bai, one of the well-known poets from the Tang Dynasty, which witnessed the peak of classical Chinese poetry. In this poem, Li Bai associates the moon with his homesickness, expressing his longing for the reunion with his families.

I have some good reasons for recommending this poem for you. First, this is a pretty simple poem, which means that you can have an easy start with your preparation. Second, this poem is pretty famous for establishing the typical image of the moon through which the poet conveys his homesickness. For centuries, this poem has been read and recited by millions of Chinese people. I am sure the poem will help you build connections with the audience when you are reciting it.

What do you think of my recommendation? If you have got any question, do not hesitate to ask me. Looking forward to your next letter.

Yours,

Li Hua

2.你最喜欢哪一类活动;

Dear Jim,

I’m happy ( more than delighted )to hear that you’re interested in the e xtracurricular activities (课外活

A variety of activities have been organized, such as visiting Capital Museum, taking a field trip to Qufu, Shandong, home of Confucius, planting trees in Mangshan Park and learning to bake a cake in a pastry shop(蛋糕店), just to name a few.

The activities mentioned above are quite popular with students. My favorite kind of activity is field trips. I went to Qufu in Senior One and Hangzhou in Senior Two. Both trips deeply impressed me.The reasons why I like field trips are as

f ollows. First, field trips offer me a good chance to broaden my horizons. As the Chinese sayin

g goes: “It is better to travel ten thousand miles than to read ten thousand books.” Not only can I learn from locals and my own experiences, but also I can see wit

h my own eyes our beautiful country and splendid culture. Second, field trips improve my research skills. Before we take field trips, we are always asked to prepare by searching online or in the library for useful information. Third, field trips help strengthen friendships. Since many of the field trips last several days,it is a good opportunity to bond with classmates better outside the classroom.

I really hope that you can go on a field trip with us in the future.

假设你是红星中学高三学生李华。你的美国朋友Jim得知你对探月感兴趣,发来邮件和你讨论该话题。请你给他回复邮件,内容包括:

1.月亮在中国文化中的寓意;

2.你对人类探月活动的看法。

注意:1.词数不少于50;

2.开头和结尾已给出,不计入总词数。

提示词:探月 moon exploration

I am glad to share with you more details about my passion for moon exploration.

It started with what I had been told about the moon as a kid and grew stronger with time. As you can guess, there is rich cultural meaning behind the faithful companion of the earth. In Chinese culture, as opposed to the masculinity (男子气概)of the sun, the moon is often compared to a quiet and elegant lady. Also, it reminds people of their family and friends far away. People feel reassured knowing that they are watching the same moon as if the moon could serve as their messenger.

Human beings have never stopped exploring our closest neighbor. I believe it is of great significance. The development of relevant technology facilitates the progress of science in general, which benefits our everyday life. What’s more, I think moon exploration shows an important human trait, that is, curiosity about the unknown, which is the driving force that has brought our species this far.

I hope you find what I‘ve mentioned above interesting and reasonable. By the way, what do you think of when you gaze at the moon? Write back and tell me about it!

Yours,

Li Hua
