北师大版高二英语必修五单元测试题及答案全套单元质量检测(一)Unit 13People(时间:100分钟满分:120分)Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

AMy little brother and sister were always saying that I was bossy (爱发号施令的). And it wasn't until I met a very bossy person that I understood how they felt!My school was holding a fundraiser (募捐活动) called the Spring Fling Fair, and everyone was going to help out. I was pretty excited about it. There were lots of committees to choose from, and I chose games and activities, which sounded like fun.But every time we got together, a guy named Peter did the same thing. He never seemed to realize that he was part of a team with three other people. At last, it was the day of the Spring Fling Fair, and we were all running around getting ready.“You need to make the horseshoes sign hang straighter,” Peter commanded.“Would you please do it yourself?”I said. “I'm kind of busy organizing the prizes.”“There are too many pink balloons on the wall,”Peter complained. “You should add more blue ones.”“Feel free to go ahead and add them,” Mike said. The best (or maybe the worst) example of Peter's bossiness happened when the Spring Fling Fair finally started. A cute little girl was fishing for a prize, and Peter grabbed (抢夺) the fishing pole right out of her hands!“You're holding it all wrong,” he told her. “Do it like this!”This little girl looked up at Peter, took a big breath, and said, “That may be the right way for you to do it, but it's not the right way for me.”And that was probably the best thing this little girl could have said. The good part of this experience is that it helped me understand how my brother and sister felt when I told them what to do and didn't stop to be polite or consider their feelings. Now I try to be more patient and less bossy, and we get along much better.1.On the day of the Spring Fling Fair, Peter ________.A.had a great timeB.kept giving ordersC.was chosen as the leaderD.was running around getting ready2.When being bossed around by her schoolmate, the author ________.A.asked others to do the workB.did what she was toldC.refused to obeyD.ignored him3.When the cute little girl was fishing for a prize, ________.A.she was ordered to stopB.she got the biggest prizeC.Peter gave her some useful adviceD.her fishing pole was taken away rudely4.After the Spring Fling Fair, the author ________.A.changed her attitude towards her brother and sisterB.became friends with the cute little girlC.got involved in more fundraisersD.broke up with PeterBThe village of Foston, North Yorkshire, UK, now has a post office thanks to pupils at the village primary school.People in the village were saddened to see their local branch (分局) closed 12 years ago.But now the village primary school has opened one in a converted (改造过的) outdoor toilet, a small brick building, with all the pupils at the school trained to help.Teaching assistant Laura Glass, 29, said, “The last one closed in 1998 and the nearest one is five miles away, meaning it was very tricky as the village has a lot of elderly people, and we suggested that the old toilet be used.”“We got a lot of help from the government and the villagers in converting it.” We then realized that by getting pupils to run it we could help teach them important skills at the same time.“The children will be properly supervised (察看并指导).They love it and it gives them key skills, and the villagers love it too because it is such a unique service.”The post office opens daily during the pupils' schooldays, for 15 minutes during their lunch break, and for another 15 minutes after lessons at 3 pm.Villager Laura Deighton's five-year-old daughter Grace goes to the school and has been serving customers at the unusual branch.Laura, 31, said, “Grace thinks it's wonderful and great fun, and she and all the kids learn really useful social skills.”“It is also a great benefit to the community. They've got everything you could possibly need, and the kids are excellent. They are so friendly and helpful.”5.The underlined word “tricky” in Paragraph 4 probably means “________”.A.enjoyable B.difficultC.exciting D.different6.Laura Deighton's attitude towards the service provided by the pupils can be described as ________.A.anxious B.surprisedC.satisfied D.doubtful7.Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?A.The post office opens every day.B.Only selected pupils can work in the post office.C.The post office is inside the primary school.D.Pupils love to help in the post office.8.What would be the best title for the text?A.Outdoor Toilet Becomes New Post OfficeB.Kids Serve Customers During Lunch BreakC.Another Post Office Branch ReopenedD.Primary School Opens Village Post OfficeCI work in a bank and have lovely relationships with many of the customers. He's connected with several nonprofits (非营利组织) and I have two nonprofits of my own. One day, he said to me that I really had to meet his niece in Florida — Dee. The next day Dee called me and we talked about her projects of gathering blankets for the homeless and the community wherever there is need. And on that day, he was on his way to Baltimore. This man, Hiker Joe, stays wherever place is offered and didn't have an offering for that night. I quickly seized (抓住) the chance! My husband travels a lot for work and has some “points” for different hotel chains, so we made a few calls and within an hour, Holiday Inn agreed to allow us to use the points we had.Hiker Joe called and was very thankful for the room. So we know each other.Just like other homeless people, he didn't think he needed anything. But once he mentioned to me he needed eye glasses. His voice hesitated a bit, he looked down, and it appeared like he thought such a request was just a dream. Too much to hope for? It was as if his wish were known by me only.I submitted an application for him to a program that is supposed to provide a free eye examination and glasses. Three months later, I phoned to ask what was up with the appointment but they told me there was a cash flow problem until late summer.Steve showed disappointment, thanked me and started to walk away. I said, “Hold on, I will figure out a way to get you an eye examination and glasses.” His face lit up a tiny bit. He had seen some of the things I have done for other people in our shelter and to me it looked like he might have a line of hope.I took a picture of him and posted his picture and his story in the Twitter. In about 4 days, eight people from around the world donated $25 each and one person donated $40 and I made up the rest to get him an eye exam and glasses.Steve picked up his glasses on Wednesday: May 11th, 2011. AHugh Laurie was the star of the TV series House. The show was watched by over 80 million people across the globe, but has just finished on May 21st, 2012. Fans will definitely miss the talented and troubled Dr Gregory House, who heads a team of doctors at a New Jersey hospital, but there are probably two things that many don't realize: firstly, Hugh Laurie had a long acting career before House; and secondly, although many think he's from the United States, he's actually an English.Hugh got into acting while studying at Cambridge University. He joined the Footlights, an amateur theater group, and began writing and performing in comedy shows. Soon after, he met fellow student and comedian Stephen Fry, and the two became comedy partners. Together they had huge success on British television in the series Jeeves and Wooster and A Bit of Fry & Laurie. By the early 1990s, Hugh was a household name in Britain, but he was still unknown to American and international audiences. However, that all changed in 2004. Hugh was acting in the film Flight of the Phoenix in Namibia when he heard about the upcoming TV show House. He read a few pages of the script (剧本) and fell in love with the main character, Dr Gregory House. So, Hugh filmed an audition (试演) in the bathroom of his hotel (it was the only place with enough light for the camera). The producers loved his audition and Hugh got the part.House quickly became an international hit. And Hugh has since become a superstar. But fame hasn't been easy on his personal life. He's spent the last eight years living in Los Angeles, while his wife and kids stayed in England. So, now that House is over, will Hugh return to England? Or will his family move to the United States? They're still not sure. But Hugh has said that one thing he doesn't miss about London is the wea ther. “This morning I was having a cup of coffee outside ... In London you can only do that three days of the year!”1.What can we learn about the TV series House?A.It was directed by Stephen Fry.B.Its actors all come from America.C.It is a longrunnin g TV series.D.Its story mainly happens in England.2.Which of the following is the CORRECT order of the events that happened in Hugh Laurie's life?a.Hugh played a role in Jeeves and Wooster.b.Hugh met his comedy partner Stephen Fry.c.Hugh acted in the film Flight of the Phoenix.d.Hugh went to Cambridge University to study.A.c, b, a, d B.d, b, a, cC.a, c, d, b D.b, a, c, d3.Hugh Laurie's words in the last paragraph imply that ________.A.he seldom has coffee in LondonB.he enjoys drinking coffee very muchC.he doesn't like the weather in LondonD.he hasn't got used to the life in America4.This text is mainly to introduce ________.A.an international companyB.a worldfamous actorC.a popular TV seriesD.a theater groupBThere are many ways to find a job. It can be as easy as walking into a neighborhood store to look at its announcement board. Local stores often have areas where people can put small signs telling what kind of service they need or can provide. Such services include caring for children or cleaning houses. Or, job searchers can look in the newspaper. Local newspapers have employment announcements placed by companies seeking workers.Another popular tool for finding jobs is the Internet. For example, people in four hundred and fifty cities around the world can use the Craigslist Website to buy objects, meet people or find a job. Craigslist says that it receives two million new job listings each month.Another useful way to find a job is through a college or university. For example, students at the University of Texas in Austin can go to the Career Exploration Center to get help in finding a job. Of course, looking for a job requires knowing what kind of work you want to do.For example, there is a book called What Color is Your Parachute (降落伞)? by Richard Bolles. 单元质量检测(二) Unit 14 Careers(时间:100分钟满分:120分本卷共4页)Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

This book has been helping people choose a career (职业) since it was first published in nineteen seventy. Some experts also help people find jobs. Susan W.
