六、阅读理解(共15小题;共30分)
A
Mr. Bean is an internationally recognized comedy character on TV and in films. He constantly gets into funny and absurd situations, which greatly amuses audiences regardless of their nationality or culture. The humor is always made clear through a series of simple and funny acts that rely purely on body language, which is universal.
One of my favorite shows is Mr. Bean in a fancy restaurant. After being seated at his table, Mr. Bean takes out a card, writes a few words on it, seals(密封) it in an envelope and places it on the table. After a moment, he looks back at the envelope but this time he looks surprised, as if he did not know it was there. He opens it to find a birthday card and delightedly puts it on the table for everyone to see.
When he looks at the menu, an astonished look swiftly appears on his face. He takes all the money out of his wallet, counts it and puts it in a plate. He then looks from the menu to the money with concern until
he finds one thing that makes him smile. Then he orders a dish called "steak tartare". When the dish arrives, he is shocked to discover that "steak tartare" is actually raw hamburger. He makes an attempt to eat it, but it is clear from the look on his face that he finds the taste truly disgusting. He cannot hide his feelings, except when the waiter asks if everything is all right. When this happens, he smiles and nods, showing that everything is fine. When the waiter is not looking, however, he was busy hiding the raw meat anywhere he can reach—the sugar bowl, the tiny flower vase, inside a small cake and under a plate. He becomes so desperate(绝望的) in the end that he even hides some inside the purse of a woman sitting near him and throws some down the trousers of the restaurant's violinist!
I like to watch Mr. Bean on TV, but I wouldn't like to meet someone like him in real life and I certainly wouldn't like to have dinner with him!

Do you want to live a happier, less stressful(有压力的) life?
Try laughing for no reason at all. That's how thousands of people start their day at Laughter Clubs around the world—and many doctors now think that having a good laugh might be one
of the best ways to stay healthy.
The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria. “Young children laugh about 300 times a day. Adults laugh between 7 and 15 times a d ay,” says Dr. Kataria. “Everyone's naturally good at laughing—it's the universal language. We want people to feel happy with their lives.” There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 worldwide.
Many doctors are also interested in the effects(效果) of laughter on our health. According to a 5-year-study in the body. Laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%.
So, what happens at a Laughter Club? I went along to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest—I wasn't interested in laughing with a group of strangers, and I was worried about looking stupid. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha,” while looking at each other. However, our bodies can't tell the diffe rence between fake laughter and real laughter, so they still produce the same healthy effects.
Surprisingly, it works! After ten minutes everybody in the room was laughing for real—and some people just couldn't stop! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you're under stress, then start laughing. You might be very pleased with the results!

A. Fake laughter and real laughter are both good for health.
B. 40% of the people in Laughter Clubs are good friends.
C. Adults laugh more often than children in a day.

Feeling good and having humor in our lives can do wonders for our position and productivity, which means that there is definitely a place for some humor on the job. Having a smiling face will help your coworkers and supervisors feel better being around you, and you may well end up reaping the rewards by laughing more in the workplace. But you need to know how to apply humor in your work environment.
One of the main rules with humor in the workplace is to avoid argument when you are joking. Stay well away from joking about political affairs, race and religion. Never make fun of other people within your organization, as you are trying to win friends with the people you work with, and not set against them. If you can't help yourself, please be extremely careful.
Making jokes about the ups and downs of your trade is a safe
way to add wit(机智风趣) to the place of work. You will have the benefit of knowing precisely what your coworkers have to face each and every day, and it's much better as it helps to let go of tensions and lower stress levels by getting them to chuckle about the situations they come across frequently.
The very best time for some humor is when you are not working, but still in the region of the people you work with, such as a coffee or lunch break. You can also make an effort to be funny on the job, but when you are working, it's a good idea to use jokes much more discreetly than you would normally do.
In general, humor in the workplace can flex your creative muscles and be a great help to your job.
89. What is a proper topic for you to joke about at work?
A. A funny political leader.
B. Another person's religious belief.
C. A person in your group.
D. A mistake you made at work.

A. Being humorous at work can win you friends.
B. We should always have humor at work.
C. We should be careful when making jokes at work.
D. We should never joke about a person at work.
91. The underlined word "discreetly" in the fourth paragraph probably means .
A. carefully
B. randomly
C. humorously
D. secretly
92. What is the passage mainly about?

B. How to be a humorous person.
C. Good manners in the workplace.
D. How to make jokes at work.
D
It is thought that crying is hardly an activity encouraged by society. Tears, whether they are of sorrow, anger, or joy, typically make Americans feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. The shedder of tears is likely to apologize, even when a great tragedy was the cause. The observer of tears is likely to do everything possible to put an end to the emotional tears. But judging from recent studies of crying behavior, both those responses to tears are often inappropriate and may even be counterproductive(适得其反).
Humans are the only animals clearly known to shed(流出) emotional tears. Since evolution has given rise to few purposeless physiological responses, it is logical to assume that crying has one or more functions that enhance(increase) survival.
Although some observers have suggested that crying is a way to ask for assistance from others (as a crying baby might from its mother), the shedding of tears is hardly necessary to get help. Vocal cries would have been quite enough, more likely than tears to gain attention. So, it appears, there must be something special about tears themselves.
Indeed, the new studies suggest that emotional tears may play a direct role in alleviating(缓解) stress, University of Minnesota researchers who are studying the chemical composition of tears have recently isolated(分离) two important chemicals from emotional tears. Both chemicals are found only in tears that are shed in response to emotion. Tears shed because of exposure to cut onion would contain no such substance.
Other researchers are investigating the usefulness of tears as a means of diagnosing human ills and monitoring drugs. At Tulane University's Teat Analysis Laboratory Dr.Peter Kastl and his colleagues report that they can use tears to detect(发现) drug abuse, to study the causes of "dry eye" syndrome(综合征) and the effects of eye surgery, and perhaps even to measure exposure to environmental pollutants.
93. What does the phrase "both those responses" in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A. Crying out of sorrow and shedding tears for happiness.
B. The embarrassment and unpleasant sensation of the observers.
C. The tear shedder's apology and the observer's effort to stop the crying.
D. Linking illness with crying and finding the chemical composition of tears.
94. From the passage we can infer that .
A. unlike animals, humans can shed tears for survival
B. we can reduce our stress by shedding tears
C. shedders of tears can't get help by crying loudly
D. it is unnatural for people to shed tears
95. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. Functions of shedding tears.
B. Roles of emotional tears.
C. Unwelcome shedders of tears.
D. Research on the effects of tears.
