John Montefiore's path to graduation from theUniversityofTorontowas a little unusual. He recently completed his bachelor's degree(学士学位) which he started in1995.
Montefiore left university in 1996 and tried to tell himself that a degree wasn't necessary for personal success. But it remained unfinished businessuntil he made the decision to return in 2018 at the age 42. At that time, his job development stalled, so he made up his mind to go back to school in order to improve himself and work well in future.
The second time around, Montefiore never missed a class and always sat in the front row. He found many courses invaluable and he received the Award of Excellence twice. He found support services played an important role in his successful return. He said, “I hadn't written a paper for years, so I found the college writing centre to be of great use. Before I handed in a paper, they would give me feedback, which was really great. The university has so much built in to help students succeed and I'm so thankful for that.” But he also met difficulties this time. As a student much older than others, he found it harder to make friends with classmates.
However, no matter what had happened before, he finally got his bachelor's degree. He said, “After all these years, I had thought it wouldn't mean anything, but it means a lot. I totally understand the value of education now. It's not necessarily the value that other people see in it, but the value it gives me as a person, for my confidence and my self-esteem. It also helps me prepare well before I re-enter the workplace.”

It is a question people have been asking for ages. Is there a way to turn back the aging process?
For centuries, people have been looking for a “fountain of youth”. The idea is that if you find a magical fountain, and drink from its waters, you will not age.
Researchers in New York did not find an actual fountain of youth, but they may have found a way to turn back the aging process. It appears the answer may be hidden right between your eyes, in an area called the hypothalamus (下丘脑). The hypothalamus is part of your brain. It controls important activities within the body.
Researchers at New York’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine found that hypothalamus neural (神经的) stem cells also influence how fast aging takes place in the body.
What are stem cells(干细胞)? They are simple cells that can develop into specialized cells, like blood or skin cells. Stem cells can also repair damaged tissues and organs.
Dongsheng Cai is a professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He was the lead researcher in a study on aging in mice. He and his team reported their findings in the journal Nature, Cai explained when hypothalamus function is in decline, particularly the loss of hypothalamus stem cells, and this protection against the aging development is lost. it eventually leads to aging.
Using this information, the researchers began trying to activate, or energize, the hypothalamus laboratory
mice. They did this by injecting the animals with stem cells, Later, the researchers examined tissues and tested for changes in behavior. They looked for changes in the strength and coordination (协调) of the animals muscles. They also studied the social behavior and cognitive ability of the mice. The researchers say the results show that the treatment slowed aging in the animals, Cai says injecting middle-aged mice with stem cells from younger mice helped the older animals live longer.
But these results were just from studying mice in a laboratory. If the mice can live longer, does that mean people could have longer lives? The next step is to see if the anti-aging effects also work in.
8. In Paragraph 2 a “fountain of youth” is mentioned to ________.
A. introduce the main topic
B. show a hidden secret.
C. describe scientists research
D. recommend a way to stay young
9. Aging takes place in the body when _______.
A. stem cells develop into specialized cells
B. there are important activities within the body
C. hypothalamus neural stem cells fail to protect against aging
D. the hypothalamus fails to repair damaged tissues and organs
10. What do we know about the researchers at Albert Einstein College of Medicine from the text?
A. They did experiments to see how stem cells work.
B. They studied mice to find their connection with humans.
C. They have found a possible way to slow the aging progress.
D. They have found no changes in mice s behavior during the experiment
11. What will the researchers probably do next?
A. They will help some animals live longer.
B. They will announce the fountain of youth doesn’t exist
C. They will develop products to help people live a longer life immediately
D. They will do research to see if what they have found in mice will apply to humans.
D
If you go into the forest with friends, stay with them. If you don’t, you may get lost. If you get lost, this is what you should do. Sit down and stay where you are. Don’t try to find your friends—let them findyou. You can help
them find you by staying in one place. There is another way to help your friends or other people to find you. You can shout or whistle three times. Stop. Then shout or whistle three times again. Any signal given three times is a call for help.
Keep up shouting or whistling. Always three times together. When people hear you, they will know that you are not just making a noise for fun. They will let you know that they have heard your signal. They will give you two shouts or two whistles. When a signal is given twice, it is an answer to a call for help.
If you don’t think that you will get help before night comes, try to make a little house with branches(树枝). Make yourself a bed with leaves and grass.
When you need some water, you have to leave your little branch house to look for it. Don’t just walk away. Pick off small branches and drop them as you walk in order to go back again easily. When you are lost, the most important thing to do is to stay in one place.
12. If you get lost in the forest, you should _________.
A. try to find your friends in no time
B. stay in one place and give signals
C. walk around the forest
D. shout as loudly as possible

选项中有两项为多余选项It is amusing that yogurt, which was invented to make milk last longer before the days of refrigeration, now makes grocery shopping last longer. Full-fat, or nonfat? Greek, or regular?____16____
A key recommendation when it comes to fat is to choose low-fat or fat-free yogurt. That's because dairy fat is mostly saturated (饱和的), the type linked with increased risk of heart disease. Besides, full-fat dairy has more calories than nonfat.
This view, however, has been challenged by a few recent studies. Researchers think that full-fat dairy might offer some as-yet-unknown health benefits. It might also help with weight management because the fat in it makes it more satisfying, helping keep our appetite in check.
____17____Until there are further findings, it might be wiser to choose low-fat or fat-free yogurt and add healthy fat by topping it with nuts.
____18____Many of them also have a hard time deciding whether to buy Greek yogurt or regular yogurt. Greek yogurt, which was rare about a decade ago, dominates the store shelves with dozens of flavors today. It has become popular partly because it features a thick, creamy texture (口感) and contains more protein and less sugar than regular yogurt.
Greek yogurt has these qualities because of its unique liquid-removing process. Unfortunately, lots of nutrients, including calcium (钙), are sometimes drained, too. Therefore, thickened yogurt and regular yogurt offer different nutritional benefits.____19____
Finally, it is worth mentioning that it's the added sugar, not the naturally- occurring sugar (which is removed in Greek yogurt), that should be the cause of our concern. Fruit-flavored yogurts that appear to be healthy may have little actual fruit and plenty of added sugar instead.____20____
A. Consumers, however. are not confused only about fat.
B. Mixing them up and enjoying both might be a good idea.
C. With so many conflicting headlines about fat these days, it's no wonder people are confused when buying dairy products.
D. Our best bet might be to buy plain yogurt and sweeten it ourselves using fresh fruit.
E. There are so many choices that we often find it hard to decide which yogurt to buy.
F. They're naturally ''packaged'' with so many important nutrients that it would be misguided to avoid them.
G. Yet more research needs to be done for us to fully understand dairy fat’s health impact .

In my opinion, love played an important role in our daily life. Life like a beautiful boat, and love is the wind. With the help of the wind, the boat can by no means go to the place what it wants to go. In my family, my parents both love me deep. It is love that makes me happy or warm. At school, all the students and teachers are friendly to me. They always motive me with inspired words, which have a significantly positive impact to me. In a short, I think love is something that we can’t describe well in any language. Love gives us a lot. So please value them.
