Many people might think that if they had more money, then they would be happier in life. For example, people might look at what others have, like expensive clothes or nice cars, and wish they could have the same. But the things that money can buy can not bring happiness to a person
for long.
① But is that really true? Studies have found that money can, in fact, make people happier. ② Instead, it's giving money to others that makes people happy, ③ It could be buying a homeless person food to eat. ④ It could be giving money to a person in need. Just think about the last time you used your own money to do something for someone else. How did
you feel? Whether it is a small or large amount of money. People feel happier when they give. This is because making someone else happy makes the giver happy, too.
This idea of connecting your happiness to the happiness of others is described as a ubuntu in
an African language. There is even a story about a man visiting Africa who asked some kids to race to a nearby tree. My first child to touch the tree would get a sweet treat. Mr Scott talked about colours all the time. "What a honey—yellow morning it is!" he said to his wife. His wife planted fruit and vegetables in their garden, but Mr Scott was more interested in the leafy plants, the bushes, and even the grass that grew in the garden. "So many kinds of green," he said to her after watering all the plants. "I counted at least twenty shades of green!"
"Well done, dear," Mrs Scott said. " Now would you please count twenty dollars and go to the supermarket for some ingredients(配料)? I want to make lunch! "
With a smile on his face, Mr Scott left at once. He enjoyed trips to the supermarket because of all the colourful cans and boxes in it. Fruit and vegetables, too, shone in their bright skins. There was never just one colour: carrots were orange, but also had bits of yellow and brown in them. Bananas were yellow and black; apples hid oranges and purples inside their reds. Mr Scott would walk through the supermarket and enjoy all the colours around him.
"I wish there was a store full of colours that I could spend all my time in," he sighed.
He bought everything on his wife's list and came home. When he walked into the house, Mrs Scott noticed the sad look on his face. "What's wrong?" she asked him. "It looks life you had fun at the store. I can see that you picked out the best things."
"I did have fun in the store. So much that I wish I could have spent more time there. It's so full of colours!" Mr Scott said.
"I see," Mrs Scott said. "Well, cheer up, because I'm going to cook a nice lunch for us!"
The next day Mr Scott was on his usual morning walk through the neighbourhood, saying hello to everyone, enjoying the colours of the trees and flowers. It was another day of colours!
"Good morning, Mr Brown," he called out to one of his neighbours. He liked Mr Brown very much, because, well, you guessed it: his name was a colour!
"Mr Scott! Just the person I wanted to see!" Mr Brown replied. "My wife and I are moving out of this town, and I need someone to take over my shop. You are the perfect person for the job because it's a paint shop! I need someone who knows its colours. Would you be interested?"
Mr Scott was mad with excitement. "I will take it over right away!"
Mr Brown was relieved when he left town, because he knew his paint shop was in good hands. Sure enough, Mr Scott kept the paint shop open for twenty more years and got to talk about colours all day, every day.

In Britain. Boxing Day is usually celebrated on December 26th, which is the following day after Christmas Day. However, strictly speaking, Boxing Day is the first weekday after Christmas. Like Christmas Day, Boxing Day is a public holiday. This means it's a non-working day in the whole of Britain. When Boxing Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the following Monday is the public holiday.
The exact origin(起源)of the holiday is unclear. One of the thoughts is that during the Middle Ages, when great sailing ships were setting off to discover new land, a Christmas Box was placed by a priest(神父)on each ship. Those sailors who wanted to ensure a safe return would drop money into the box. It was sealed up and kept on board until the ship came home safely. Then the box was handed over to the priest in exchange for the saying of a mass of thanks for the success of the sailing. The priest wouldn't open it to share the contents with the poor until Christmas.
One more thought is about the "Alms Box" placed in every church on Christmas Day. Worshippers(做礼拜的人) put gifts for the poor into it. These boxes were always opened the day after Christmas. That is why that day became known as Boxing Day.
Today, many businesses, organizations and families try to keep the traditional spirit of Boxing Day alive by donating(捐赠) their time, services and money to aid Food Banks, providing gifts for the poor, or helping families in need. Besides, spending time with family and shopping are popular Boxing Day activities now.

(3)细节题。
根据原文The common mistakes that Nancy picked up include "Not Entry",which should be "No Entry","Direction of Airport" should be changed to "To the Airport". And it is "Room Rate",not "Room Price". And remember to "Keep off the Grass" rather than "Care of the Green".Nancy发现的包括Not Entry,应该是No Entry,飞机场的方向应该改为To the Airport,Room Rate而不是Room Price,而且记住勿践踏草地是用Keep off the Grass而不是Care of the Green,可知她认为应该要把这些不标准的英文该改过来,故选A。
(4)细节题。
根据原文"Direction of Airport" should be changed to "To the Airport". 飞机场的方向应该改为o the Airport,所以To the Airport的表达是正确的,故选C。
(5)主旨题。
根据原文主要介绍了目前我国出现很多标志以及日常用的英语不地道,相关部门进行整改,以及采访了几个来自说英语国家对我国用汉语式英文的感受,可知主要在讲述地道英语的运用,故选C。

Humans can go to the hospital when they're ill. But as for animals, what should they do?To stay healthy, animals have their own ways to heal(治愈)themselves. Now let's get to know their special skills.
Skill One
Have you ever seen your dog or cat lick(舔)its wounds? Why do they do it?It probably feels good, but it's good medicine. Licking cleans a wound, and saliva(唾液)has chemicals that kill germs(细菌).
Skill Two
To avoid diseases, many animals have good living habits. They hate to be dirty. Most animals separate their pooping(排便)areas from their eating areas. Horses poop far away from the grass they eat. Rabbits put their poop in special pooping areas.
Skill Three
Have you ever heard of the expression "starve a fever(发烧时宜饿)"?Many animals stop eating when they're ill. When a sick animal stops eating, it can stop germs from getting necessary things.
Skill Four
Another way that animals heal themselves is to raise their body temperature. High temperature can kill germs. Warm—blooded animals(like us)get fevers to fight with germs.
Cold—blooded animals(like snakes)look for pieces of wood or rocks heated by the sun.
Fish move to warmer waters.
