Leadin
Look at the pictures and answer the questions.
What was the rabbit doing just now?
What was the pig doing just now?
The worm was eating while the dog was reading.
Task1 Read and work out the rule
Sum up:
1. 当连接同时发生的两个延续性长动作时,常用while引导。

e.g. While I was watching TV, he
was listening to music.
Millie was reading a book while
Eddie was sleeping.
2. 如果短暂性的动作是主句时,我们可以用when, while 或as 引导。

e.g. When/while/as Millie was watching TV, Andy came into the room.
3. 如果延续性的动作是主句时,我们经常用when 来连接。

e.g. Millie was watching TV when Andy came into the room.
4. 如果两个短暂性的动作同时发生,我们通常用as连接。

e.g. As Millie sat down on the sofa, Andy came into the room.
注:当一个短暂性动作发生的同时伴随着一个延续性的动作,这时我们通常用过去进行时来表示延续性的动作,用一般过去时来表示短暂性的动作。

Task2 when ,while 的区别
When引导的时间状语从句,谓语是延续性的,或者短暂性的。

通常用一般过去时,也可以用进行时。

My mother was watching TV while I was doing my homework.
He was taking a shower while his wife was talking on the phone.
while引导的时间状语从句,谓语动词只能是延续性的,通常用进行时。

The teacher came in ____ students were talking noisily.
=The students were talking noisily ___ the teacher came in.
when 后通常加短暂性动词,如:arrive, e in,
get up, open, close, finish, begin, e, go,
arrive, reach, get to, leave, move, borrow, buy, die, knock 等
While后通常加延续性动词, 如:live, run, stay,
clean, play, hold, watch, teach, read, study,
teach, eat, drink, write, dance, sing, smoke…
(五)拓展提高
Task3 Playing in the snow
Some Class 1, Grade 8 students went to play in the snow. plete the sentences with the correct forms of the verbs in blanks. Use when, while and as to connect the sentences.
