PERTH—Search crews will send a submarine(潜航器)deep into the Indian Ocean on Monday for the first time to try to determine whether signals detected by sound-locating equipment are from the missing Malaysian plane's black boxes, the Australian head of the search said.
Angus Houst on said the crew on board the Ocean
Shield will send the underwater vehicle
sometime Monday evening. The Bluefin 21
submarine can create a sonar(声呐)map of the
area to chartany wreckage(残骸)on the seafloor.
The move comes after crews picked up a series
of underwater sounds over the past two weeks
that were consistent with an aircraft's black
boxes.
“We haven’t had a single detection in six days, and l guess it’s time to go under water,” said Houston.
“Analysis of the four signals has reduced the search area on the ocean floor. The experts have therefore determined that the Australian Defense Vessel Ocean Shield will stop searching with the Towed Pinger Locator(拖曳声波定位仪)later today and use the underwater vehicle Bluefin 21 as soon as possible," he said at a news conference in Perth.
But Houston warned the switch to the submarine will not automatically "result in the detection of the aircraft wreckage. It may not.”
He said the submarine will take 24 hours to do each task, including two hours to dive, 16 hours to search the bottom, then two more hours hack up and four hours to download data.
Recovering the plane's flight data and cockpit(飞行员座舱)voice recorders is necessary For investigators to try to figure out what happened to Flight 370, which disappeared on March 8.
Houston said the search using the submarine will be "a slaw and painstaking process.
The submarine takes six times longer to cover the same area as the ginger locator, and will need about six weeks to two months to examine the present underwater zone. The signals are also coming from 4,500 meters (15,000 feet) below the surface, which is the deepest the submarine can dive.

Expensive and new gloves allow chatterboxes(话匣子)to take the
term “handsfree” to a new level—by talking into them as they make
a call. The gloves are known as “Talk to the Hand” and cost £1,000
a pair. They fixed a speaker unit into the thum
b and a microphone
into the little finger that can be connected to any mobile handset
using Bluetooth.
Artist Sean Miles designed the new gloves that double as a phone
in part of his project that shows the possibilities of gadget(小
配件) recycling. He uses outdated gloves and combines them with parts from mobile handsets recycled through O2, which commissioned(承担)the project. Mobile phone users will be able to keep their hands warm while they chat without taking their phones out of their pockets or handbags.
Mr Miles designed two pairs of the new gloves—one in pink and the other in brown and yellow. They will appear in an exhibition this July and visitors will be able to win the gloves. If demand is high, they will then be produced on a larger scale. O2 Recycle, which backed the project, estimates that there are already 70 million unused mobile handsets in the UK. The service pays up to £260 to those who recycle gadgets including phones, handheld consoles, MP3 players and digital cameras.
Designer Sean Miles hopes his work will get people thinking about recycling. The 41-year-old said, “I hope that my ‘Talk to the Hand’ project will get people to think again about the waste created by not recycling gadgets. If a few more people recycle their gadgets rather than send them to trash, I think this project will have fulfilled its aim.”
Bill Eyres, head of O2 Recycle, urges people to recycle their phone responsibly. He said, “There’s a pressing need for all of us to look at o utdated handsets, and all the gadgets that we move on from or upgrade each year. Whether they are consoles or cameras, we should think of them as a resource that we need to recycle responsibly rather than throw them away.”

IT is safe to say that George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950),
the Irish-born writer, is more famous for being George Bernard
Shaw than he is for his writings today. Few of Shaw’s more
than 60 plays, novels and essays are performed or read anymore.
And yet Shaw genuinely helped make our modern world. Although
you’d be lucky to get a chance to see one of his dramas today,
in his time he turned the theater into a vehicle for the
discussion of social issues, not only in Britain but on the
stage of the world. In a way Shaw was someone who created the
modern culture of Britain.
Where the theater had been dominated by entertainment, Shaw used it to teach people the importance of paying attention to the issues of their day. The plight (苦难) of the poor and the working class, the situation of women and the institutions of society, such as the education system ---- Shaw was among the most well-known figures making these topics central to public debate. His first play, Widowers’Houses(1892), deals with the question of slum (贫民窟) housing. His Mrs Warren’s Profession (1893) brought a controversial topic to the stage.
Shaw was an important mover and shaker in new political movements too. He was an early member of the Fabian Society, which argued for the socialist cause in the UK. Shaw was also the founder (in 1895) of one of the now most famous colleges in the world, the London School of Economics.
If few of his works have really stood the test of time, many of his quotations have become part of the furniture of the English language. “Youth is wasted on the young,”he wrote. He also knew how to sum up a political philosophy(哲学) in a few memorable words. For instance: “A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.”
64. Shaw’s influence on the modern world comes mainly from ______.
A. the changes he brought to the British culture
B. his philosophies on the role of government
C. his awareness of social problems of his day
D. the support for the London School of Economics
65. Widowers’ Houses is a play that mainly focuses on ______.
A. the failure of the UK education system
B. the housing problems of poor people
C. robbery incidents in slum areas
D. socialist movements in the UK
66. By describing Shaw’s quotations as “part of the furniture of the English language”, the author means that Shaw’s words ______.
A. have become the best part of English
B. have greatly developed the English language
C. have made the English language philosophical
D. have become an inseparable part of the English language
67. Which of the following about George Bernard Shaw’s works is TRUE?
A. They should be adapted for modern readers.
B. They are mostly about the lives of working class.
C. They deal with important social issues of their day.
D. Most of them are still performed on the stage of the world today.

Many Chinese parents think as long as the child is watched by people, there is no danger. But from the start, when the child is born, he needs to communicate with others, especially the communication with parents. Many children in our country are growing up in the environment which lacks a sense of security and love. They want to get back the love lost in childhood but never catch it.
On the one hand, Chinese like saving faces; on the other hand, they want to encourage their children to be aspirants(有抱负的人). They often say how hard somebody else is studying, how good their grades are, and what prize they get. This comparison is the worst thing especially when they say it before many people. Each time you compare your children to others, you will only bring them much disappointment and pain.
Parents should knock at the door when they go into the room of their children. They should get permission before they move something of their children. Parents should first communicate with their children and consider their decisions. Parents should respect their children, and consider them as adults. This respect should begin from changing diapers. Before changing diapers for the children, parents should tell them. Children who do not be respected also do not know how to respect others.
Many parents have high hopes for their children, and force them to the way that they think is right, even if the kids do not fit, or do not like, such as playing the piano or going abroad. Under this kind of pressure, children become unhappy and the quality time becomes a struggling period. When children recall their childhood, all memories are unhappy, which is indeed the failure of some parents.
68. The underlined pronoun “they”(in paragraph 1 )probably refers to “”
A. The families
B. The parents
C. The children
D. The teachers
69.Which of the following probably makes the child disappointed?
A. Parents mustn’t enter the room if not permitted.
B. Children’s decision is more important than parents’.
C. Parents should show respect to their children.
D. Children usually don’t know how to respect others.
70. In order to build a good parent-child relation, parents should .
A. help choose the way for their children
B. let their children choose the road of life
C. pay for their children to receive further study
D. try their best to meet the needs of their children
71. According to this passage we can know that Chinese children’s childhood was .
A. unforgettable
B. unsuccessful
C. pleased
D. unhappy

What is the nature of the scientific attitude, the attitude of the man or woman who studies and applies physics, biology, chemistry, geology, engineering, medicine or any other science?
We all know that science plays an important role in our societies.
However, many people believe that our progress depends on two different aspects of science. The first aspect is the application of the machines, products and systems of knowledge that scientists and technologists develop. The second is the application of the special methods of thought and action that scientists use in their work.
What are these special methods of thinking and acting? First of all, it seems that a successful scientist is curious - he wants to find out how and why the universe works. He usually pays attention to problems which he notices have no satisfying explanation, and looks for relationships even if the data available seem to be unconnected. Moreover, he thinks he can improve the existing conditions and enjoys trying to solve the problems which this involves.
He is a good observer, accurate, patient and objective(客观的) and uses the facts he observes to the fullest. For example, trained observers obtain a very large amount of information about a star mainly from the accurate analysis of the simple lines that appear in a spectrum(光谱).
He does not accept statements which are not based on the most complete evidence available. He rejects authority as the only basis for truth. Scientists always check statements and make experiments carefully and objectively.
Furthermore, he does not readily accept his own idea, since he knows that man is the least reliable of scientific instruments and that a number of factors tend to disturb objective investigation.
Lastly, he is full of imagination since he often has to look for relationships in data which are not only complex but also frequently incomplete.
Furthermore, he needs imagination if he wants to guess how processes work and how events take place.
These seem to be some of the ways in which a successful scientist or technologist thinks and acts.
72. Many people believe that science helps society to progress through_________
A. knowledge only.
B. more than one aspect.
C. technology only.
D. the use of machines.
73. Which of the following statements about a curious scientist is TRUE?
A. He doesn’t find confidence and pleasure in work.
B. He is interested in problems that are explained.
C. He makes efforts to investigate potential connections.
D. He looks for new ways of acting.
74. According to the passage, a successful scientist would NOT_______________.
A. easily believe in unchecked statements.
B. easily criticize others' research work.
C. always use his imagination in work.
D. always use evidence from observation.
75. Which word can be used to describe the data that a good scientist uses?
A. complete
B. objective
C. complicated
D. accurate

What to Do This Summer Vocation?
After the long run of 12 years of studying hard, we Senior 3 students deserve to have a colorful and exciting summer vocation. Now we are completely free from schoolwork, and we can do whatever we like out of our own choice.
Some students say after the College Entrance Examination, they long for a trip to get close to nature, for the blue sky and beautiful scenery will really relax their mind. Some students prefer to stay at home rather than go anywhere。
They want to watch their favorite matches and cheer for their idols. However, some students have more practical goals. A certain number of them will find a part-time job this summer to get some social experience and earn some pocket money. Even a good many students would like to go to the driving schools, making full use of the three months to get a driving license.
As far as I am concerned, I will pay a visit to Beijing with my classmates first. Then I will stay at home helping my cousin with his math and waiting for the admission of my favorite university.
