The Amazing Shenzhou Missions!
Hi there! My name is Lily, and I'm a 4th grader who loves learning about space exploration. Today, I want to tell you all about the incredible Shenzhou 17 and Shenzhou 18 missions conducted by China's amazing space program!
Let's start with Shenzhou 17. This mission launched on November 29th, 2022, and it was really special because it marked the beginning of China's first ever long-term stay on their brand new space station called Tiangong. Tiangong means "Heavenly Palace" in Chinese, and it's like a big house in space where astronauts (also called taikonauts in China) can live and work for a long time.
The three taikonauts on Shenzhou 17 were Fei Junlong, Deng Qingming, and Zhang Lu. They were the first crew to live on Tiangong for an extended period, and they stayed there for almost six months! Can you imagine living in space for that long?
I bet it was incredible but also really challenging.
During their time on Tiangong, the taikonauts did all sorts of cool experiments and tasks. They conducted over 40 different

The Exciting Shenzhou Space Missions!
Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I'm really interested in space and I've been learning all about the amazing Shenzhou 17 and Shenzhou 18 missions that China has done recently. Let me tell you about them!
Shenzhou 17 was a really cool mission that took place from 2022 to 2023. Three astronauts, or "taikonauts" as they're called in China, went up to the Tiangong space station. Their names were Cai Xuzhe, Chen Dong, and Liu Yang. Liu Yang was the first woman to visit Tiangong!
They lifted off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert on October 16th, 2022 aboard a Long March 2F rocket. After about 6 and a half hours, their Shenzhou spacecraft docked with the Tiangong space station. Then they got to go inside and start living and working up there!
The taikonauts had a bunch of important scientific experiments to do during their mission. They studied how plants
grow in space, which is important for growing food on long space missions. They also did experiments on heat transfer and liquid physics in microgravity. Some of the experiments were even designed by students in China!
One of the coolest things they did was two spacewalks, where Cai Xuzhe and Chen Dong went outside the space station and worked in outer space! They installed some new components and equipment on the outside of Tiangong. I can't even imagine how amazing it would be to do a spacewalk. Just drifting through space with the whole Earth down below you!
After spending around 6 months living on Tiangong, it was time for the Shenzhou 17 crew to come home. On April 16th, 2023, their return capsule undocked and they made the journey back to Earth. Using parachutes to slow their descent, they landed safely in Inner Mongolia. What an adventure!
But that's not the end of the Shenzhou missions! Just a couple months later on June 5th, 2023, Shenzhou 18 launched carrying 3 new taikonauts up to Tiangong. This crew includes Deng Qingming, Zhang Lu and Zhai Zhigang.
The Shenzhou 18 taikonauts are continuing the important scientific research on the space station. I read that they are working on experiments about growing rice and other crops
efficiently in space. They are also studying how microgravity affects the human body over long periods of time. Knowing those things will be crucial for China's future plans to build a permanent space station and maybe even send people to the Moon someday!
One part of the Shenzhou 18 mission I'm really excited about is that the taikonauts will be doing some really cool spacewalks. They are going to install two new external modules to the Tiangong station that will expand its size and capabilities. How amazing is that - actually building on to your home while floating in space?! I can't wait to see pictures and videos of that.
Shenzhou 18 is scheduled to last around 6 months as well, with the taikonauts expected to return to Earth in late 2023 or early 2024. Then China plans to launch the Shenzhou 19 mission to continue operating and expanding Tiangong. There's so much happening with China's space program!
I'm just in elementary school but I already know I want to be an astronaut or do something with the space program when I grow up. These Shenzhou missions are showing kids like me that China can accomplish incredible things in space exploration. We are learning so much through the science on Tiangong and
building valuable skills and experience for eventually sending people deeper into space.
I can't wait to see what other amazing discoveries and adventures the taikonauts on Shenzhou 18, 19 and future missions will make happen. The Chinese space program is doing great work to push the boundaries of what's possible. Maybe I'll even get to travel to space myself one day! For now, I'll just keep studying and dreaming big. The sky is definitely not the limit anymore!

The Chinese Space Adventures!
Hi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm 10 years old. I love learning about space exploration and all the amazing things humans can do. Today I want to tell you about two really cool Chinese space missions - the Shenzhou 17 and Shenzhou 18!
First, let's start with Shenzhou 17. This mission launched in November 2022 and it was really special because it kicked off the construction of China's brand new space station called Tiangong! How awesome is that?
On Shenzhou 17, there were three taikonauts which is what we call Chinese astronauts. Their names were Fei Junlong, Deng Qingming, and Zhang Lu. They were the first crew to live and work on the Tiangong space station.
After an exciting rocket launch, the Shenzhou 17 spacecraft docked with the Tianhe core module of the space station. The Tianhe is kind of like the living quarters where the taikonauts could eat, sleep, and have some fun in their free time.
But of course, the taikonauts had lots of important work to do too! They conducted all sorts of cool science experiments on the space station. They studied how different materials behave in microgravity and took incredible photos of the Earth from space.
One really neat experiment they did was called the Space Cultivator. They actually grew rice and other plants on the space station! Isn't that amazing? The taikonauts had to carefully water the plants, monitor their growth, and send data back to scientists on Earth.
Speaking of Earth, the view must have been breathtaking from the Tiangong space station's huge window! The taikonauts could look down and see our beautiful planet below them, floating gracefully in the inky blackness of space.
After spending an incredible 6 months living and working in space, it was time for the Shenzhou 17 crew to come back home. Their return capsule detached from the space station and plunged back through Earth's atmosphere before landing safely in the desert in Inner Mongolia. What a journey!
But the fun wasn't over yet! Just a couple months later in May 2023, the Shenzhou 18 mission launched to continue construction on the Tiangong space station. This time the crew had three different taikonauts - Deng Qingming, Liu Yang, and Cai Xuzhe.
Liu Yang was extra special because she became the first Chinese woman to visit her country's space station! She conducted lots of experiments and activities to inspire girls like me to pursue their dreams in science and space exploration.
One of the main goals of the Shenzhou 18 mission was to get the space station ready for future crews to live there for even longer periods of time. The taikonauts tested out all the life support systems like the water recyclers and air purifiers.
They also installed two more module cabins called Wentian and Mengtian. This gave the crew a lot more living space and room for doing science! With the extra modules, the Tiangong was finally complete after years of hard work.
Just like the previous crew, the Shenzhou 18 taikonauts spent months in space carrying out all sorts of experiments. I can't even imagine how incredible it would be to look out at the stars every night and float around in microgravity all day!
I think my favorite experiment they did was the
bio-regenerative life support system tests. They actually grew plants and vegetables, and even had some little animals like insects and fish! It was like a tiny ecosystem up there in space. Cool, right?
After nearly 6 months aboard the Tiangong, it was finally time for the Shenzhou 18 crew to return to Earth as well. Their capsule descended by parachute and landed perfectly in the desert, just like Shenzhou 17 did before them.
Those two missions by the brave taikonauts were just the beginning for China's amazing space station. More crews will keep visiting Tiangong to live and work for even longer stretches. Scientists will use it to study topics like physics, astronomy, biology and more!
Maybe one day I'll even get to visit the Tiangong space station myself if I study really hard. Just thinking about looking down at our tiny blue planet from up in space gives me chills. The taikonauts are so lucky to experience that!
I hope you enjoyed learning about the Shenzhou 17 and 18 missions as much as I did. China is becoming a true powerhouse in space exploration and who knows what inspiring adventures lie ahead. The sky is definitely not the limit anymore! Taikonauts, let's keep exploring the universe!

Chinese Astronauts Living and Working in Space!
Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I really love learning about science and space exploration. Today I want to tell you about some amazing things that happened with China's space program over the last couple of years. It's so exciting!
In 2022, China launched the Shenzhou 17 mission to the Tiangong space station. Tiangong means "Heavenly Palace" in Chinese. It's a really cool name for a space station! The Shenzhou 17 crew stayed in space for almost 6 months which was a new record for China.
The crew was made up of three astronauts - Cai Xuzhe, Chen Dong and Liu Yang. Liu Yang was the first Chinese woman to visit the Tiangong space station. How awesome is that? She's such an inspiration to girls like me who dream of becoming astronauts one day.
While they were in space, the astronauts did all sorts of experiments and tasks to get the space station ready. One of the most important things they did was two spacewalks outside of the Tiangong to set up new equipment and modules. Spacewalks are when astronauts put on special spacesuits and go outside the space station into the vacuum of space. It must feel so strange with no air to breathe!
The astronauts also had video calls with President Xi Jinping from space which is really neat. They got to show him around their home in space. I wonder what President Xi thought as he saw the amazing views of the Earth from Tiangong!
After nearly 6 months, the Shenzhou 17 crew returned safely to Earth in a landing capsule on December 16th, 2022. Watching a spacecraft re-enter from orbit and parachute down is just mind-blowing. The Shenzhou 17 astronauts were true space pioneers for China's program.
But the action didn't stop there! Just a couple months later on May 29th, 2023, China launched the Shenzhou 18 mission to continue operating the Tiangong space station. This crew also had three astronauts - Deng Qingming, Zhang Lu and Zhu Yangzhu.
The Shenzhou 18 astronauts stayed for an even longer 6 month mission, finally returning to Earth in late November 2023. During their time on the space station, they accomplished so much! Some of the highlights were:
• Multiple spacewalks to upgrade the station's robotic arm
• Hosting science l ectures that were broadcast to students all over China
• Experiments on how microgravity affects the human body, plant growth, and more
• Testing cutting-edge technologies like a new laser communications device
Maybe the coolest thing the Shenzhou 18 crew did was welcome the first mission crew from a partner country to visit Tiangong. In October 2023, three astronauts from Belarus arrived at the station aboard a Soyuz spacecraft from Russia. The Belarus crew stayed about 10 days conducting joint research.
How exciting is that? It was the first time astronauts from different countries lived together on China's space station. The world is working together more and more to explore space. I hope one day there will be astronauts from all countries cooperating on big missions like colonizing Mars someday!
Living and working in space seems both amazing and extremely difficult. I can't even imagine having to adjust to the weird feeling of constant freefall inside the station. The astronauts exercise a lot to keep their muscles and bones strong without gravity pulling on them. They also have to be so careful about things like air, water, and energy since resources are very limited in space compared to Earth.
And of course, being an astronaut takes incredible bravery. The Shenzhou 17 and 18 crews risked their lives multiple times during launch and landing. They also had to be prepared for emergencies at any moment while in orbit around the Earth. True heroes!
Studying and watching these two latest crewed missions to Tiangong was so inspiring for me. Seeing China take such huge strides in its space capabilities makes me very proud of my country's achievements. The astronaut crews from Shenzhou 17 and 18 will go down in history for their amazing work constructing and utilizing China's first true space station.
I hope that by the time I grow up, China will be ready to send astronauts even farther into space - maybe even to the Moon or Mars! With the experience gained from Tiangong, I'm sure we'll keep making big strides. Someday in the future, I want to be one
of the astronauts representing China on those deep space exploration missions.
For now, I'll just keep studying science and math as hard as I can. You never know, maybe I'll get the incredible opportunity to follow in the footsteps of pioneering astronauts like the Shenzhou 17 and 18 crews! Watching them work so hard in space has motivated me to never give up on my dream. The future of space belongs to our generation, and I can't wait to see what amazing discoveries lie ahead!

Shenzhou 17 and 18 - China's Awesome Space Adventures!
Hi everyone! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 4th grader who loves learning about space exploration. Today I want to tell you all about the amazing Shenzhou 17 and Shenzhou 18 missions that China launched recently. Get ready for blastoff!
Shenzhou 17
On November 29th, 2022, the Shenzhou 17 spacecraft took off from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert. On board were three brave taikonauts (that's what Chinese astronauts are called!) - Fei Junlong, Deng Qingming, and Zhang
Lu. Their mission? To spend 6 months living and working on board China's brand new space station called Tiangong!
Tiangong means "Heavenly Palace" in English. It's a really cool space station that China has been building bit by bit since 2021. Shenzhou 17 was a hugely important mission because the taikonauts needed to get Tiangong ready for lots more visiting spacecraft and taikonauts in the future.
During their time on the space station, Fei, Deng and Zhang did all sorts of awesome experiments on things like how plants grow in space and how different materials behave without gravity. They even got a video call from China's president Xi Jinping while in orbit! So cool.
One of the biggest tasks was getting the Tiangong's robotic arms set up and operational. These huge mechanical arms can grab and move stuff outside the station, which will be really handy later on. The taikonauts took a spacewalk to give the robotic arms a test drive and make sure they worked perfectly.
Shenzhou 17 stayed docked at Tiangong until March 13th, 2023, when the crew bid farewell to their orbital home and returned safely to Earth. Their mission was a huge success in proving that Tiangong was ready for more visitors!
Shenzhou 18
Just six days after Shenzhou 17 left, another crew of taikonauts blasted off on the Shenzhou 18 mission on March 19th, 2023. This time the crew was made up of Deng Qingming (he was on Shenzhou 17 too!), Zhang Xiaoguan and Zhu Yangzhu.
Shenzhou 18's main job was to keep working on Tiangong and running experiments. With the station now properly set up by the previous crew, Deng, Zhang and Zhu could really get to work on the fun science stuff!
One of the coolest experiments they did was a study on how concrete sets and hardens in the microgravity of space. This could help make stronger and lighter concrete for buildings back on Earth in the future. They also did tests growing plants, researching new materials, and even breeding babies from enzyme samples! Space babies, sort of!
Another highlight was when the taikonauts got to speak with students from schools back in China through a live video link. I would love to get to ask an astronaut in space a question one day! Maybe they can tell me what space ice cream tastes like.
In between all the work, the Shenzhou 18 crew also got to celebrate some holidays and anniversaries on board Tiangong. For Chinese New Year in January 2024, they even got some special space food sent up like smoked chicken and candied fruit. Yum!
After spending 6 months on the space station doing important science, Shenzhou 18 returned safely to Earth on September 27th, 2023. Deng, Zhang and Zhu had kept Tiangong operating smoothly and paved the way for more visiting taikonauts to come.
What's Next?
So those were the amazing Shenzhou 17 and 18 missions that helped make China's Tiangong space station ready for all sorts of future adventures and discoveries in space! I can't wait to see what happens next.
China plans to keep launching taikonauts and supplies to Tiangong on a constant basis over the next decade or so. Other countries might even get to visit one day through international cooperation. How cool would it be if kids like me got to speak to taikonauts and astronauts from all over the world working together?
I dream of becoming a taikonaut myself when I grow up so I can walk in space, run experiments in zero gravity, and explore the great unknown of the cosmos. Tiangong is hopefully just the first step in China's journey to the Moon, Mars and beyond. Watching Shenzhou 17 and 18 has made me more excited than ever to study science and technology.
The future of space belongs to the dreamers and the daring. I'll be following every new mission with stars in my eyes, will you? Ad astra!

China's Amazing Space Adventures!
Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. I absolutely love learning about space and all the incredible things happening in the world of space exploration. Today, I want to tell you about two really cool Chinese space missions called Shenzhou 17 and Shenzhou 18. Get ready for an
out-of-this-world adventure!
The Shenzhou 17 mission was the latest in a long line of crewed space missions by China. It launched on November 29th, 2022 and arrived at China's brand new space station called Tiangong, which means "Heavenly Palace" in Chinese. How
awesome is that name? The three astronauts or "taikonauts" as they're called in Chinese were Fei Junlong, Deng Qingming, and Zhang Lu. They stayed aboard the Tiangong space station for almost 6 months, which is the longest time any Chinese astronauts have been in space!
While they were up there, the taikonauts did all sorts of cool experiments and tasks. They tested how things burn in space, studied how microgravity affects physics, and even grew rice and other plants! Fei Junlong, who was the mission commander, gave a live lecture to over 300 million Chinese students from space. That must have been the coolest science class ever!
One of the most exciting parts of the Shenzhou 17 mission was when the taikonauts went on not one, but two spacewalks outside the space station. A spacewalk is when astronauts put on special spacesuits and go outside their spacecraft while still in the vacuum of space. It's really dangerous but also super amazing! During their spacewalks, the taikonauts tested out new spacewalking techniques and installed some fancy new equipment on the outside of Tiangong. Spacewalking must be a lot of fun but also pretty scary since you're just drifting in the emptiness of space!
After spending 182 days in orbit, almost half a year, the three taikonauts from Shenzhou 17 finally returned safely to Earth on May 8th, 2023. Their mission was a huge success and they collected tons of data to help make future space missions even better. China's space program has grown by leaps and bounds!
But the adventure wasn't over yet! Just a couple weeks later, on May 29th, 2023, the Shenzhou 18 mission launched carrying three new taikonauts to Tiangong - Deng Xingguang, Liu Yang, and Cai Xuzhe. Liu Yang was actually the first Chinese woman ever to go to space back in 2012, so she's a real pioneer! This time, she became the first Chinese woman to ever visit a space station.
The Shenzhou 18 crew took over where Shenzhou 17 left off, continuing all the awesome science happening aboard Tiangong. One of their main goals is to get the space station fully ready for future crews to stay for even longer periods of time. Speaking of which, did you know China plans to have taikonauts living on Tiangong permanently by the end of 2024? That means there will always be Chinese astronauts in space keeping an eye on our planet from above. How cool is that?
Just like their predecessors, the Shenzhou 18 crew also got to go on some really exciting spacewalks. In fact, on June 17th,
2023, Liu Yang made history by becoming the first Chinese woman to ever walk in space! She spent over 7 hours outside the space station working on different components. Liu Yang is definitely one brave and accomplished lady. I hope I can be as cool as her when I grow up!
The Shenzhou 18 mission is still ongoing as I write this essay. The taikonauts are scheduled to spend about 6 months aboard Tiangong, similar to Shenzhou 17. After they come back in November 2023, China will keep launching more crews one after the other to ensure there's always someone living on their space station full-time. The future of China's space exploration is looking brighter than ever before!
In my opinion, space is just the most fascinating thing ever. I can't get enough of learning about rockets, space stations, astronauts, and everything else to do with exploring the cosmos. The Shenzhou 17 and 18 missions are excellent examples of how far China has come in space technology and capabilities. From growing plants in microgravity to performing spacewalks and more, the taikonauts are making so many new discoveries that will help humanity unlock the secrets of the universe.
I really admire the brave astronauts who risk their lives by traveling to space. It takes an incredible amount of courage,
training, and smarts to be able to pull off these kinds of ambitious space missions. I have so much respect for the taikonauts and astronauts from all countries who are at the forefront of space exploration. They are real-life adventurers and explorers!
One day, I hope I can work for a space agency myself and maybe even travel to space. Nothing would make me happier than contributing to humanity's quest to understand the great beyond. For now, I'll just keep studying hard, reading everything I can about space, and looking up at the stars every night. The universe is an astounding place and I'm so glad China is helping to uncover its mysteries through the Shenzhou missions. Discovering the unknown and seeking new frontiers is what makes space so magical. I can't wait to see what other incredible space adventures await!。
