Before I started school, people felt that I was not going to be successful. At the age of four I started speech lessons because basically I could not speak well enough for anyone to understand me. The story goes downhill from here.
The first grade was a struggle. I not only had difficulty speaking, but also felt nervous about the fact that I was expected to learn to read and I just couldn't do it. The second grade was not much better. I still struggled with the inability to read. It was in the third grade that the school district built a new school close to my home. I remember going there with my parents and helping to get the school ready so that we could move to the new one. However, things were still not much better as far as my schooling was concerned and did not get better for the next two years.
It was in the fifth grade. Mrs. Wakefield was my teacher, and if ever there was a teacher that deserved a gold star, it was her. She did not make me feel defeated. On the contrary, she did her best to let me know that I could be whatever I wanted to be. And that is just what I did.
For the past 22 years, I have been a fifth grade teacher. Because of Mrs. Wakefield's influence on my life, I am now encouraging students who have had difficulties in their lives to believe that they can overcome any difficulty and become someone. I have won numerous awards up to now, such as Teacher of the Year.
I owe it all to one fifth grade teacher who believed in me and challenged me to be all that I could be.

The solar system is made up of the sun and all the objects
that travel around it. The planets are the largest objects
that circle the sun. There are eight planets altogether, some
of which are made up of rock and iron. The earth is a rocky
planet. But the largest planets are not Earth-like, one of
which is Jupiter.
In the solar system no planet is larger than Jupiter. Ancient scientists named the planet after the king of the Roman gods. Jupiter is the fifth closest planet to the sun. It lies after Mars but before Saturn. The closets planet to the sun is Mercury, which Neptune is the farthest away. The Earth is farther from the sun than Mercury but closer than Mars.
Like all the planets, Jupiter orbits around the sun. It takes 265 days for the Earth to complete one orbit. But it takes Jupiter almost twelve years to travel around the sun. Jupiter also spins, just as the Earth does. On the Earth one spin takes 24 hours. But Jupiter spins very fast. It only takes ten hours for Jupiter to complete its spin.
Jupiter’s surface cannot be seen from the Earth. Many layers(层) of thick clouds surround the planet. But scientists have ideas about what its surface is like. They think that Jupiter is mostly made up of gas and liquid.
Jupiter’s clouds are very cold. They may be as much as 236 degrees below zero. But under the clouds, the planet is very hot; the temperature can climb to 34,000 degrees. Some scientists say that life forms might be able to exits in Jupiter’s clouds. But that has not been proved yet.
Jupiter has fifteen more moons than the Earth. Some of these moons are made of ice. Others seem to be made of rock. Jupiter also has a thin ring around it; the planet Saturn is famous for rings like these.
Several spaceships have flown past Jupiter. They have taken pictures of it and also tested its clouds. That is how scientists have learned more about Jupiter.
53.Scientists think Jupiter is probably made up of _________.
A. rock and iron

There is just one four-legged animal that can walk two hundred miles without stopping once to rest. It would take a person two days and two nights to walk this far, and only one man has ever done it without stopping. What amazing animal has such endurance(耐力)? The camel! The camel is well known for something else, too. It can cross an entire desert without a single drink of water. Its body is built in a special way to help it store water and food.
A person has just one stomach, but a camel has quite a few. Within each stomach are layers and layers of cells. These cells are like tiny water balloons, storing liquids until the camel needs them. When the camel drinks, the cells grow larger and larger. For a whole week, they can keep the animal’s thirst away by sending water to all parts of its body.
Have you ever wondered why the camel has a hump(驼峰)? The hump is a storage place for fat. Because it has this storage area, the camel does not need to eat very often. When the animal needs energy, the layers of fat serve as fuel to keep it going on the long, hot days in the burning sun.
The camel has another gift that makes it well suited to arid regions. This gift is its amazing nose. A camel can smell a water hole from miles away!
