Alex Palmer says he'll never forget his 13th birthday, not because of a gift or a party, but fire. “It made me realize how valuable life is,” said Alex, a seventh grader atMonroeDemonstrationSchoolinTulsa,Oklahoma.
On April 18, Alex and many other kids from his school were riding home on a school bus when they suddenly saw smoke coming from the bus’ engine. “It was jaw-dropping,” he told reporters.
By the time Alex and some other kids made it out the bus’ back door, the bus was already on fire. And some of their schoolmates were still inside. So he and some of the other older kids took action.
“One little kid was slowing everyone down with his big backpack, ” eighth grader Destiny Fain said, “so I got it off and threw it to the side and helped to make sure all the little kids weren’t fighting or pushing. ”
As that was going on, sixth grader Marketez Doyle-Smith reportedly helped another classmate who had trouble in breathing because of the smoke. “We saw our friend lying on the ground,” he said, “so we took our shirts off and waved them to get him some air to breathe.”
Marketez also reportedly stopped a younger kid trying to get back on the bus to search for something he’d left behind. “We're all a family,” he told reporters. “So I went back to help the little kid.”
Finally everyone made it off safely, thanks to Alex, Destiny, Marketez and several other kids. By later that day, they were already being called heroes. “I really don’t see it as being a hero,” Alex said, according to The World. “I see it as the right thing to do—helping others before you help yourself.”

C. We’re classmates in the same class.
D. The thing left on the bus is mine.
3. According to the last paragraph, Alex thought that he

When I was trying to find a place where to spend my December holidays, I met by chance some cheap flights to Iceland. After checking just a few winter pictures of Iceland, I realized that the country, known as the land of fire and ice, during the cold months of the year could offer me experiences I had never had before.
For sure you can’t miss the chance to go to Iceland in winter if your traveling wish list includes at least one of the crazy experiences Iceland can offer. Iceland in the North Atlantic Ocean is a paradise (乐园) for all those who want to see the northern lights, experience cold weather conditions and put themselves in geothermal (地热的) baths while the snow is falling on their head.
The best way to move around Iceland is with a rental car. Distances are huge and public transport in winter is not really common out of the major towns. As we wanted to be even more convenient we decided to rent a small camper (野营车). Sleeping and cooking in a camper saved us a lot of driving, money and gave us the chance tobe always in the right place at the right time.
There were also no locals and in many cases no tourist facilities (设备). For us, as we slept in a camper, it was easier. But for tourists traveling by normal cars it is necessary to check the opening times ofhotels and restaurants as many of them run just from June to September.
It is amazing to experience how the weather is changing in Iceland. However, Icelanders prefer to stay inside their houses. They have even no time to complain about the weather in December. All they care about is Christmas. They love to decorate their houses, sing Christmas songs and eat typical Christmas food.
4. Why is Iceland famous as the land of fire and ice?
A. Because tourists would like to play with fire on the ice.
B. Because it is too dry to easily cause fire to happen.
C. Because it is hot inside a house and cold outside.
D. Because there exist hot springs and freezing ice.
5. What did the author think of the rented camper?
A. It was not only practical but also economical.
B. It was convenient but cost them more money.
C. It provided the best chance to see the new country.
D. It was much faster than other public transport.
6. What does the last paragraph imply?
A. The Icelanders prefer to live with their family.
B. The joy of Christmas drives the freezing weather away.
C. December is the coldest month of the year.
D. The Icelanders are always positive and stay outside.
7. What does this passage most probably come from?
A. A textbook
B. A scientific report
C. A travel magazine
D. A news report
C
If you go into the forest with friends, stay with them. If you don’t, you may get lost. If you get lost, this is what you should do. Sit down and stay where you are. Don’t try to find your friends—let them findyou. You can help them find you by staying in one place. There is another way to help your friends or other people to find you. You can shout or whistle three times. Stop. Then shout or whistle three times again. Any signal given three times is a call for help.
Keep up shouting or whistling. Always three times together. When people hear you, they will know that you are not just making a noise for fun. They will let you know that they have heard your signal. They will give you two shouts or two whistles. When a signal is given twice, it is an answer to a call for help.
If you don’t think that you will get help before night comes, try to make a little house with branches(树枝). Make yourself a bed with leaves and grass.
When you need some water, you have to leave your little branch house to look for it. Don’t just walk away. Pick off small branches and drop them as you walk in order to go back again easily. When you are lost, the most important thing to do is to stay in one place.
8. If you get lost in the forest, you should _________.
A. try to find your friends in no time
B. stay in one place and give signals
C. walk around the forest
D. shout as loudly as possible
9. Which signal is a call for help?
A. Crying twice.
B. Shouting here and there.
C. Whistling everywhere in the forest.
D. Shouting or whistling three times together.
10. When you hear two shouts or two whistles, you know that _________.
A. someone needs your help
B. something terrible will happen
C. people will come to help you
D. someone is afraid of an animal
11. What’s the meaning of the last paragraph?
A. Use branches to make a bed.
B. Drop branches to look for water.
C. Pick off branches to build another house.
D. Leave branches to help you find your way back.

选项中有两项为多余选项In an effort to stop the pandemic's advance, we may be finding ourselves taking certain precautionary (预防的) measures and maintaining a reasonable degree of social distance. Our habits have had to change to accommodate the reality of coronavirus.___16___
People are advised against touching high-touch surfaces in public places, including elevator buttons, door handles, and especially other people's hands. Consequently, the traditional habit of handshake has been substituted for other gestures, like elbow bump (碰撞)and foot tap, which involve less bodily contact.___17___The foot tap and the elbow bump have a way of feeling vaguely ridiculous, and it's hard to take them entirely seriously, especially in business settings. Centuries of tradition has normalized handshake in our culture, and it may be too deeply rooted in our custom to be abandoned.
___18___In 1996, a sales manager developed an experiment to test the impact of the handshake on strangers. He found that more people told the truth when he introduced himself to them with a handshake before asking the question." A handshake, "he later told The New York Times, "creates a higher level of trust, a degree of familiarity, within a matter of seconds."
With more communication on screen, the handshake is an occasion to reach out and touch one another, to enjoy a tiny, fleeting connection.___19___And meeting someone face to face, whether a client or a colleague, always suggests a closer level of familiarity than merely touching base online.
As the coronavirus spreads and habits change, it may prove that you can't fist bump or foot tap a handshake either. There's something in human nature that responds to the handshake. It feels good to shake the hand of someone you respect or admire, to have that moment of bonding.___20___When COVID-19 is a distant memory, chances seem good that the handshake will prevail (流行)again.
A.The handshake is the first thing to go.
B.In a sense it can't be seriously replaced.
C.The handshake is a way of maintaining relationships.
D.The real human contact feels all the more precious now.
E.The handshake is also a rare gesture of casual closeness.
F.These touch-free alternatives are likely to replace the handshake.
G.However, adjusting to these new forms of greeting has been difficult.

本题考查语法语境应用能力和判断能力。

【56题详解】
考查时态。

句意:老师向我们解释地球绕着太阳转。

分析可知,宾语从句“that the earth moved round the sun”为客观真理,应用一般现在时,不受谓语“explained”的过去时态影响。

分析可知,make great progress,固
