In the film Forrest Gump, there's a famous saying: 'Lift is like a box of chocolate; you never know what you're gonna get.” It’s the same with blind boxes.
Each of these small boxes contains one of many toy figures in a series. The buyer doesn't know which figure they've gotten until they open the packaging. Blind boxes can be traced back (追溯到) to lucky bags sold in Japan from the late 1860s. In recent years it becomes big business in China.
During the Double 11 shopping day, Pop Mart, a leading blind box company in China, sold 55,000 Labubu dolls on Tmall in just 9 seconds, according to a Tmall report.
One reason for their popularity is the attractive appearance of the figures inside the boxes. They're like tiny cartoon characters. They can be placed anywhere in your home as a decoration. But another, perhaps more important reason people like them is the fun of being surprised.
"The most interesting thing about blind boxes is the gap between what you expect and what you get,”said Wen Xi, a blind box collector from Beijing. The excitement of getting the exact figure you want is like winning a lottery(彩票).
While the boxes are certainly entertaining to some, others worry that children might spend too much money on these toys.
"The blind box economy takes advantage of gambling psychology” said Liu Chunsheng, an associate professor at Central University of Finance and Economics. “Young people tend to look for the excitement brought by uncertainty and higher risks, which leads to impulse buying (冲动消费).”
Last year, over 200,000 Chinese customers spent more than 2,000 yuan collecting blind
boxes.most of them were Generation Z, or those born after 1995,according to a report by Tmall.
1.What do we know about blind boxes?
A. They came from the movie Forrest
B. The attraction of these boxes lies in their packaging styles.
C. Buyers have no idea what is inside each box.
D. They first came out in China in the late 1860s.
2. Paragraph 3 is written to show that __________.
A. Pop Mart is a big blind box company
B. Blind boxes are popular in China
C. Blind boxes can be bought online
D. Labubu dolls only sold on “Double 11”
3. What does the word “gap” in Paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. 关系
B. 期待
C. 缺口
D. 落差
4. What is the seventh paragraph mainly about?
A. The popularity of blind boxes
B. The designs of blind boxes
C. The problems with collecting blind boxes.
D. The development of the blind box economy

" "年轻人倾向于寻找不确定性和更高风险带来的刺激,从而导致冲动购买。

" 可知最后一段主要讲了”收集盲盒的问题“。

故答案为:C。

C
If I’ve learned one thing last year, it's that there is so much out of my control. And the other thing I’ve learned is that it's important that I “control” the one thing I can: me - how I see things, what I think, what 1 say and what I do. That is in my control, and it's in my best interest to do my best to show up as my beat self.
One way I've found to do that, as William Feather suggests, is to look upon life as an adventure.
Clearly,if my life is full enough that I can have my memoir(回忆录)published, then my life has certainly been interesting. I’ve learned that I have a choice whether I look at my interesting life as a series of hardships and challenges, or as an adventure.
When I look at it as an adventure, I think I get the most out of it because I sense my excitement to see what unfolds (展示)and my enjoyment of all that happened in my interesting life. It made me who I am,and it gave me a unique point of view and gifts to share with others.
I share this point of view with friends often. Everyone has faced challenges in the past, and everyone is finding obstacles (障碍物)and “learning chances” now. Especially now. I get to remind them that the obstacles, the learning chances - the whole journey in fact-can be looked upon as an adventure: as mountains to climb, river rapids to steer through(通过)and new people to meet.
When we choose to control our point of view and see life in all its ups end downs as an adventure, we find more passion(热情), enthusiasm and new points of view with which to solve what's in front of us - and to get the most out of life.
1. What can we learn about the writer from the first three paragraphs?
A. His memoir is nearly finished.
B. His life is full of uncertainties.
C. He prefers to take risks in life.
D. He has a positive attitude toward life.
2. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. What makes life an adventure.
B. How the writer solves difficulties in his life.
C. How the writer benefits from his view of life.
D. Why it is important to enjoy what has happened.
3. What is the writer's advice for his friends according to the text?
A. Be ready to meet new people.
B. Get close to nature often.
C. Treat obstacles as learning chances.
D. Try to find their true passion.
【答案】DDC

That is in my control, and it's in my best interest to do my best to show up as my beat self.和第二段look upon life as an adventure.及第三段my life has certainly been interesting等可知作者对生活的态度很积极乐观,故选择D。

I think I get the most out of it 及It made me who I am,and it gave
me a unique point of view and gifts to share with others.

I share this point of view with friends often. Everyone has faced challenges in the past, and everyone is finding obstacles (障碍物)and “learning chances” now.

D
Drug development is a risky and costly business. Many possibly effective drugs fail to cut the mustard during the experiments. One reason is that drugs which work on lab animals may not work quite so well in human tests. Being able to pick winners and losers as early as possible would save money, and the One Health Company thinks it may have found a way. It is offering to help medical groups test their cancer drugs on sick pets.
There are several benefits. By treating animals with cancers, it hopes to avoid a problem with modem animal research, which is that the “model" animals and diseases that are used to test drugs , are not always good stand-ins(替身) for the natural illness. For example, mice used to test cancer drugs may have had their tumours(肿瘤)placed into their bodies, or their immune systems weakened with drugs..
Another benefit is that pet owners tend to be great caretakers who are very knowledgeable about their four-legged friends and are likely to report even small changes in behaviors. Lab animals are checked far less often.
Perhaps the most useful benefit of using pets for drug experiments, however, is that there is no law on animals’ medical records. One Health has been able to get 98% of records on animals from hospitals-a number that is impossible for humans. That allows the company to find the night animals for a drug experiment.
Based on the benefits above, the company hopes that pets will prove useful in other diseases besides cancers.Horses, for example, seem to be good stand-ins for humans when it comes to arthritis(关关关). Cats, meanwhile, may prove instructive in breast cancer research.
1. What do the underlined words “cut the mustard" in Paragraph1 probably mean?
A. Meet the requirements.
B. Reduce the pain.
C. Affect the test results.
D. Tell the differences.
2. Which of the following is NOT a benefit of One Health’s idea?
A. It makes sure the animals with natural diseases are used.
B. It makes sure the model animals are checked regularly.
C. It makes sure most animals' medical records are available.
D. It makes sure the model animals are in healthy condition.
3. What’s the main idea of this passage?
A. How to help sick pets at a low price..
B. How to improve drug experiments.
C. How to save the drug business.
D. How to treat some pet diseases.
4. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
【答案】ADBC

One reason is that drugs which work on lab animals may not work quite so well in human tests.

By treating animals with existing cancers, it hopes to avoid a problem with modern animal research, which is that the "model" animals and diseases that are used to test drugs are not always good stand-ins (替身) for the natural illness.

Another plus is that pet owners tend to be great caretakers who are very knowledgeable about their four-legged friends and are likely to report even small changes in behaviors.

One Health has been able to get 98% of records on animals from hospitals — a number that is impossible for humans.

Being able to pick winners and losers as early as possible would
save money, and the One Health Company thinks it may have found a way.

E
I recently gave up driving. I passed my test last year, but I stopped voluntarily when I turned
90. I thought that it was finally the right time.
Needless to say, my family was relieved (解脱的) - they didn't have to have“that talk”with me. My doctor was relieved too. Next to diagnosing (诊断) an incurable illn e ss, taking away an old's driving license is probably one of the hardest things he must do. Since my wife passed away years ago, I made this decision alone, although I'm sure my late wife would have supported me. I knew I couldn't move as well as I used to, and my eyesight was getting worse. It hurt to turn my head when backing up, and, aft e r long shopping trips, I was tired out.
As I handed over the keys of the car to my son, I thought of all the cars my wife and I had owned over the years. A car is freedom, independence and an extension of your personality. Without one, you feel like less of a person.
I have a son who lives close by, and we shop together at least once a week. My neighbors also offer me rides, but the idea of being dependent on other people after a lifetime of independence is hard to get used to.
I’ve learned to get used to it and change. With my own car, I could go anywhere at a moment's notice. But now,my world has become small, and I must plan ahead for everything. No more going out for milk or bread or last-minute afternoon drives.
However,I found a way to some of those problems. Last year, I decided to buy a nice new
four-wheel electric scooter (轻便摩托车). At a top speed of 12 km/h, it takes 20 minutes to get
from my house to the grocery store. But now, my route is free from traffic and noise, with trees and greenery(青葱的草木) replacing cars and street signs.
Giving up driving is hard, and some of us never accept the loss. For me, however, it was just
the end result of a long and lucky life. Life in the slow lane(车道) turned out to be so much fun and so much cheaper.
1. What can we learn about the writer from the first two paragraphs?
A. He decided to stop driving on his own.
B. He developed an incurable illness at the age of 90.
C. He was encouraged to keep driving by his family.
D. He often checked with others before making decisions.
2. How did the writer find living without a car at first?
A. He was ready to be dependent on others.
B. He found his life had been limited.
C. He found it healthier because he walked more.
D. He enjoyed the company of his family and friends.
3. What did the writer decide to do to balance his life?
A. He took his car back from his son and drove again.
B. He got a new vehicle and got used to driving slowly.
C. He decided to plan ahead for his everyday life.
D. He made plans to buy a new car for himself.
4.What is the main aim of this article?
A. To describe the special life of an old man.
B. To ask readers to live a slower life.
C. To stress the importance of being independent.
D. To show that a change of life may bring positive result.

The most effective way of developing your taste in English prose(散文)is to read widely.Yet you may have trouble choosing the proper books, especially as a beginner. I'd like to share my experience.
My first English novel was Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, recommended by many English teachers. But I understood the novel with difficulty, let alone enjoying it. It's not the vocabulary that troubled me,but the way Austen composed sentences, and her way of thinking, which seemed beyond me.Hemingway's novel Farewell to Arms.without long and difficult sentences met my interest. And 1 particularly liked his style. So my first suggestion is, as a beginner, you'd better choose contemporary novels instead of classical ones. You can find it easy to lose yourself in reading, get fun of it, and build up confidence. I do not mean to refuse classical novels forever.Actually, the second reading of Pride and Prejudice greatly pleased me.
However, reading novels is not the only way. If you limit yourself to novels, you will miss a lot of treasures.English essays can entertain you, and improve your taste in English. The best example is Russell's work. Its language is plain yet you cannot help feeling the elegance(优雅)and the special sense of humor. His simple language enables his ideas within the reach of common people. Here comes my second suggestion-essays are necessary.
Last, never follow others' recommendations and opinions blindly, however, famous or influential the person might be.Once I read Maugham's autobiography(自传) The Summing up. Though I admire Maugham's prose, I cannot agree with his view. Probably one can regard
Johnson's work as pretentious(自命不凡的),but definitely not Gibbon's. In fact, his style makes his works highly readable, and you can hardly believe they were written over 200 years ago. Therefore,we should be open to various ideas, but always think and decide for ourselves. As a saying goes, one man's meat is another man's poison. With that in mind, we can surely find our favorite writers through reading and develop our taste in English.
