Austin feeds the hungry and homeless population throughout the city in an effort to “show love” to those who need “food and smiles”. “Show love”, according to Austin, has become his superhero motto. His superhero name? President Austin, of course.
Austin’s father, TJ Perine, told CN N that Austin has always been sympathetic (有同情心的), as he acts like a “little dad” for his brother, Taylor. However, it wasn't until Austin learned that people
are experiencing homelessness that he decided to share what he has with the rest of his community. TJ noted that Austin’s first knowledge about homelessness came after watching a nature documentary (纪录片) about a baby panda on television.
“Austin and I were watching an animal show and there was a mother panda that was leaving her baby, ” TJ said. “Aust in began to get concerned, and I told him that the baby panda would be homeless.”
To better teach his son about homelessness, TJ took the young boy to the city shelter, at which point Austin asked, “Can we feed them?” In response, TJ took Austin to Burger King where he enthusiastically volunteered to pay for the chicken sandwiches using his weekly pocket money, thereby giving up new toys that week.
Austin and his father have plans to expand their community outreach efforts so they can also fight homelessness at its roots. They have also started a GoFundMe as part of their Show Love Foundation.
“We've gotten a lot of support from the country, and what we want to do is expand and do from more than just giving out sandwiches, ” TJ told CNN, saying that, finally, he and Austin hope to build a service center that deals with the many causes and symptoms of homelessness. “Mental illness, drug abuse, addiction, and things like that,” he said. “Austin and I want to build a service center and get some specialists in there that can actually help these people get back to work.”

19. In the middle of the twentieth century, medical research showed that there was a clear connection between cardiovascular (心血管的)disease or CVD and lifestyle. This awareness led to a change in attitudes towards health care. Health experts began to stress the idea that people could take control of their own health instead of relying on medical help. People listened.
Many people are no longer depending on doctors for advice and treatment; instead they are focusing on preventive measures and taking responsibility for their own health. A greater understanding of the connection between diet and health has led many to reduce or even reject food high in fat from their diets.
Similarly, people are also becoming more serious about reducing stress. An increasing number of people understand that frequent aerobic (有氧的)exercise like walking, running, and swimming reduces stress.
These changes in attitudes and behavior have had a positive effect. Deaths from CVD first began to fall in western countries in the 1960s, and this trend continues today. In the United States the death rate from this disease fell by more than 35 percent between 1980 and 1997 and then by another 26 percent between 1999 and 2005. In 2010, 6 percent of adults suffered from some form of CVD, down from 6.7 percent in 2006.
However, the news about CVD is not all positive. Despite the fall in death rates, CVD is still much too frequent in most western countries. CVD has also become much more common in developing countries, with 80 percent of all CVD deaths now occurring there.
What are governments doing to fight this terrible disease? The global effort to inform people of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle continues. Governments are also introducing specific changes aimed at reducing unhealthy lifestyles. In Mauritius a government program
encouraged the nation to switch from palm oil, high in fat, to healthier soybean oil.

【小题2】What are more people doing to reduce stress?
A.Exercising on a regular basis.

C.Seeking treatment from their doctors.
D.Removing food high in fat.
【小题3】How does the author show the effects of these changes?
A.By giving examples. B.By stating arguments.
C.By listing numbers. D.By providing research results. 【小题4】Why did the government of Mauritius encourage people to eat soybean oil instead of palm oil?
A.Soybean oil is cheaper than palm oil.
B.Palm oil is less healthy than soybean oil.

The legendary charity runner Rosie Swale Pope has jogged (慢跑)
her way across Europe to Istanbul, Turkey, as she continues her
6,000-mile journey from Brighton in the U.K. to Kathmandu in Nepal. The 73-year-old took on the challenge in an effort to raise support
to improve health, education and living of local communities in Nepal, which was destroyed by a destructive earthquake in 2015.
“It is not about just giving people food. It is about helping these talented people to grow their own food,” she said as she
jogged by the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia, the top tourist attractions in Istanbul.
Pope, from Tenby, Wales, began her journey to Kathmandu from Brighton, a town on the English Channel, in July 2018. Turkey is the 13th count ry she’s jogged through. The Republic of Georgia is next on her itinerary.
“I never know where I sleep every night. I sleep in fields. I sleep in the streets. I get up and run. I meet people I would never meet any other way,” she said. She transports her belongings in a bright red cart (手推车) that she drags behind her while she runs.
Recognized as one of the world’s longest solo runners, she ran around the world in 2004 to raise money for charity, and in 2015 she ran across the United States — from New York to San Francisco — to honor her late husband, Clive, who died from prostate cancer.
Her adventures also include sailing alone from the U.K. to the U.S. in a 17-foot boat. She described herself as “just an ordinary person, and I am old,” but she’s made spe cial connections all over the world. “I meet people I would never meet any other way and actually it is a way of giving more to life because I have more. You don’t go out and you don’t wait for the world to come to you,” she said.
