Ali Cogia in Baghdad had a little shop where he sold sweets. He had saved one thousand pieces of gold.
One day he planned to visit Mecca, so he sold the shop, and carried whatever he could on a camel. He asked his friend, Hussain, to keep a pot of olives until he came back. Hussain agreed.
Seven years had passed since Ali left Baghdad. His pot had been in Hussain’s shop and never been touched. One day Hussain opened the pot, thinking that Ali was perhaps dead after all these years. He found the olives at the top of the pot were already bad and all the bottom of the pot was filled with pieces of gold. He then filled up the pot with fresh olives.
One months later, Ali came back to Baghdad to see Hussain for his pot. Ali took it home, but gold was not there. So Ali took Hussain to Cadi, the judge. But Hussain denied everything.
On his way home, Cadi happened to see some children playing a game, “Let me be Cadi,” said one child. “You shall be Ali Cogia and you shall be Hussain.”
The child sat down, “Bring Ali Cogia!”
Another child tells Ali Cogia’s story.
“Bring Hussain! What is your answer to Ali Cogia?” so the child told Hussain’s story.
The child who played Cadi said, “Bring the pot of olives to me!”
“What beautiful olives!” he said. Then he put his fingers to his mouth as if he was eating one of the olives.
“A very good olive! But I don’t think that a seven-year-old olive can be as good as this. Bring me the olive-seller!”
“Tell me,” said the child to them, “How long can olives be kept good enough?”
“Never longer than three years,” said one.

As the novel coronavirus pneumonia makes students to stay at home, they have to learn online and smart phones make online learning become possible and easy. But have you ever thought about what they mean to your eyes?
According to a study, half of the British people own smart phones and they spend an average (平均)
of two hours a day using them. There has been a 35% increase in the number of people in the UK who suffer from shortsightedness since smart phones were introduced there in 1997.
Staring at smart phones for a long time gives you dry eyes. When looking at something in the distance, your eyes automatically blink a certain number of times. However, when you look at things closer to your face, the blinking slows down. This reduces the amount of tears and causes discomfort in your eyes. Another bad habit is using smart phones in dark rooms before going to sleep. If you look at a bright screen while your pupils(瞳孔)become larger, too much light enters your eyes. This can do harm to the eyes and cause a disease called glaucoma.
If you have to use your smart phone to learn online, there are a few things you can do to protect your eyes. Hold your phone at least 30 centimetres away from your eyes when using it. Take a rest every hour and try the following: look at something at least five metres away from you and then focus on the tip of your nose. Repeat this several times. It should reduce the discomfort in your eyes.

For many years, people have wondered whether we are the only living things in the universe. Some scientists believe that there must be life on other planets because the universe is so big. However, other scientists don’t think so, because a very special environment is needed for life to survive. To find out whether there's life on other planets, many scientists keep studying the universe and they may now be closer to answering this question.
Using powerful telescope(望远镜), a team of astronomers(天文学家)in South America discovered a new planet, called Proxima b. It circles a star named Proxima Centauri, in the same way Earth circles the sun. Proxima Centauri is the closest star to our solar system.
Scientists believe the new planet has a rocky surface and is similar in size to Earth. More importantly, they are sure that the distance between Proxima b and its "sun" gives the planet a similar temperature to Earth's. This means it could have running water which makes it possible for life to exist(存在)there. Scientists name planets like Proxima b as "Goldilocks planets" because they are not too hot or too cold, but just right to possibly support life.
Astronomers have found other Goldilocks planets in the past, but none are as close to Earth as Proxima b. Still, the new planet is 4.2 light years from Earth-that is about 25 trillion miles away.
Despite the long distance, astronomers hope to get a much better look at our new-found neighbor one day. But they'll need to wait until better telescopes are developed. They may also send a robotic spacecraft to study the planet.

A.their temperature

Recently, the result of the national reading survey has been announced and it paints a brighter future for reading habits in the Internet times. Last year, 21,270 men from 55 cities answered the survey. It showed that the Chinese people's reading rate increased slightly over the year before. Reading rate means the percentage of citizens regularly reading books, newspapers and digital(数字) reading materials.
The survey shows that the daily reading time and yearly reading number of paper books, printed newspapers and magazines have dropped, while digital reading has continuously increased. Every day Chinese people use different digital devices like mobile phones, personal computers or iPads for 100.41 minutes on average(平均), 15.5 percent higher than the year before.
According to the survey, Chinese people's reading habits have changed because mobile phones provide more chances to get different kinds of reading materials on digital platforms. More than 50 percent of the Chinese people who were interviewed prefer digital reading, mostly on mobile phones.
Another interesting result is that an increasing number of people like to listen to audiobooks. More than 30 percent of the people who answered the survey listen to audiobooks, higher than the year before. It may have something to do with the way people go to and from work-many people in the countryside drive or take public transport for long hours, which leads to the greater need for audiobooks.
People's reading habits are changing with social changes. In my opinion, the relevant authorities(相关机构) should pay attention to it and shouldn't fall behind.
