Teaching objectives
1.Knowledge objectives:
(1) To learn and enjoy the story.
(2) To understand the new words and expressions in the context.
2.Ability objectives:
(1) Students can improve the ability of skimming the story for the main idea, scanning the story for specific information and reading carefully for more details.
(2) Students can appreciate and experience the beauty of the text by acting creatively.
(3) To help students to arouse their imagination and ability of thinking to make up different endings of the story.
3. Affective objectives:
Students can be encouraged to be brave and optimistic, imaginative and creative, and can respect every life in the world.
Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty
To guide the students to search for and use the targeted details to summarize a story. Teaching aids:

Ⅰ. Lead-in
Show pictures of different famous novels.
T: Boys and girls, are you familiar with these books?
Have you ever read these books before? What type are these books?
Do you know their Chinese names?
[Purpose: Encourage students to read more books and try to lead them to express their opinions in English.]
Ⅱ. Reading Comprehension
Pre-reading
1. Show pictures, then teach the new words of against and continue.
T: What can you see in the picture?
Is it strange? There is a big man and many tiny men.
He is Gulliver. He likes voyage very much. Unluckily, his ship crashed against the rocks. Can the ship continue moving? The ship can’t continue moving. Let’s see what happened to him.
3.Show the picture of the story. Let students predict the story.
T: Look at the picture, please think from the five elements.

[Purpose:Attract students’ interest of the story. And lead students to predict the plot of the story.]
While-reading
Step 1
Why was he on the beach? Let’s find out the reasons from paragraph one.
