So please keep in mind that firstly, try not to bring in too many of the following things in your lunchboxes: loose nuts, peanut butter, sesame oil, egg mayonnaise, and any other foods that contain the things James is allergic to. Secondly, I’d like everyone to avoid sharing food at lunchtime. And thirdly, I need you all to be very careful to
wash your hands after eating. If you bring special food to share for celebrations or birthdays, please make sure that it does not contain any of the things that are a problem for James to eat.

At night, when you go to bed, many birds and animals are getting ready to sleep too. But others are just waking up and beginning their day, because they are nocturnal: they sleep during the day and then come out at night. Have you ever heard an owl hooting in the night? Owls are nocturnal. They spend the night looking for rabbits, mice and other small animals to eat. Bats, pangolins, moths, spiders, and many kinds of frogs come out at night to look for food too. And even in the oceans, some fish sleep at night while others, like sharks, become active.
So why do these animals live so differently? For some of them, it is safer, because there are fewer predators that want to catch and eat them. For others, it is easier to find food because the animals that they eat come out at night too. Some animals are nocturnal because the temperature is better for them at night. Slugs and snails, for example, can easily dry out in the daytime sun, so they hide in dark wet places and wait for the night. Many desert animals are also nocturnal to avoid the heat of the day.
Many nocturnal animals have special senses to help them to move around, stay safe and find food at night. Some have very big eyes that let in a lot of light, so that they can see in the dark. Some, like the fox, can smell things very well or, like owls, have an amazing sense of hearing. And some use echolocation(回声定位)to help them move around and find food in the dark. They make special noises that echo back, telling them what is nearby.
What other animals do you know about that, nocturnal? Try and find out about one. Why does it come out at night, and what special senses does it have for night-living?
17. Why do owls come out at night?
A. To stay safe.
B. To hunt for food.
C. To find a playmate.
D. To build a shelter.
18. What’s the main idea of Paragraph 2?
A. Why some animals are active at night.
B. When different animals come out.
C. Where food is easy to find at night.
D. How desert animals get away from heat.
19. Where can slugs and snails live in the daytime?
A. On the dry rocks.
B. In the water.
C. On the rooftop.
D. In the wet grass.
20. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To voice opinions.
B. To offer advice.
C. To show some facts.
D. To spread love and joy.

第五部分附加题(满分20分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Most children are taught the virtue of honesty from fairy tales and stories. The famous story of Pinocchio, who begins life as a puppet(木偶), teaches the importance of telling the truth. Every time Pinocchio lies, his nose grows longer and longer. Another story about the boy who "cried wolf" describes how lying led to his losing all of his sheep as well as the trust of his fellow villagers. These types of stories show children that "honesty is the best policy." Still, lies are told all the time and are part of many people's everyday social life. Then why do so many people lie?
While everyone makes a mistake, some people do not have the courage to admit their mistakes because they fear blame(责备). For example, students might He to their teachers about unfinished homework. They might say that they left the work at home when, in fact, they did not do the work at all. These students do not want to seem
irresponsible(不负责任的), so they make up an excuse-a lie-to save face.
Parents, particularly those with small children, may teach their children to use a type of "protective" He in certain situations. What should children do if a stranger calls while the parents are out? Many parents leach their children to explain that mom and dad are too busy to come to the phone at that time. In this situation, a lie can prevent harm.
Many times people He to protect the feelings of other people, and there’s nothing wrong with that. A good friend shows up with a had new haircut, you’re more likely to say, "It’s very cool! It suits you." You might tell a cook you loved the dinner even if you could hardly eat it, or tell a friend you loved the shirt you got as a gift even though you knew you would never wear it.。
