学习使用一般过去时谈论过去所发生的事情,学会谈论节假日的活动;学习规则与不规则动词的过去式;学会以日记的形式记录一天的活动并表达感想;学习was/were结构;学习how引导的特殊疑问句;能够根据需要使用下列词汇、句型。
词汇:were, stayed, visited, felt, summer camp, museum, the Great Wall, the Palace Museum, Tian’an Men Square, expensive, awful, crowded, delicious, fantastic, unfriendly, cheap, feel, cry, decide, make, guide, discuss, report, activity, corner, back.
句型: Where did you go on vacation?
We went to New York.
Did you go to Central Park?
Yes, I did.
How was the weather?
It was humid.

建议本单元用四课时来完成。
第一课时学习Section A的1a~2c部分;第二课时学习Section A 的Grammar~4 部分;第三课时学习Section B 的1a~3b部分;第四课时学习Section B 的3a~4+Self Check部分。
The First Period
【Text Analysis】
In the picture of Part 1, we can find different activities the students did on vacation. There are two students talking about what they did last weekend with “Where did you go on vacation?” “I went to the mountains.” The key function is to introduce the key vocabulary and give the students practice in understanding the target language in spoken conversation, then help the students to practice speaking with the target language.
【Language Focus】
Enable the students to understand the following while they listen. They can use these while they speak
l Activities in past tense form
stayed at home went to New York City
visited my uncle went to summer camp
went to the mountains went to the beach
visited museums
l Talk about past events
Where did you go on vacation?
I went to the mountains.
【Teaching Procedures】
Step 1: Check
Revise activities in past tense form:
(1) Ask individual students to answer the questions:
What did you do yesterday?
What did your family do yesterday evening?
What did you do last weekend?
What did your parents do last weekend?
(2) Ask several students to give a report about what his family did last weekend.
Step 2: Talk
(1) The teacher shows the students some photos and talk about them like this:
Who is the woman in the picture?
Can you guess where I was?
Yes, you are right. I went to Beijing on summer vacation.
Where did you go on your vacation?
What did you do on your vacation?(2)Write the past tense verbs the students mentioned in their talks on the blackboard.
(3) Ask the students to look at the picture in 1b, Section A and tell what they see. Then ask the students to write the letter of each picture next to the name of the activity.

(1) Listen
Play the recording of 1b, Section A. The students only

Tina: I went to New York City.

Girl: Where did you go on vacation, Sally?
Sally: Nowhere. I stayed at home.
Girl: And where did you go, Brad?
Brad: I visited my uncle.
Conversation 3
Boy 1: Where did you go on vacation?
Tom: I went to the summer camp. It was great.
(2) Listen again and number

(3) Listen and repeat
Play the recording several times so that the students have plenty of chances to practice. While the students are repeating, the teacher must pay attention to their reading. Help them and correct their pronunciation when necessary.
Step 4: Speak
(1) Read
Ask the students to practice the conversation in 1b, Section A in pairs. Then have several pairs read it aloud. Correct them when necessary.
(2) Make a conversation
Ask the students to make a similar conversation between them by using their own ideas.
Have some pairs to act out their conversations. Make sure that they can make their own conversations by using the above sentence patterns.
Step 5: Listen
(1) Listen and match
Listen and match the person with the places according to the recordings in 2a, Section A. Then check the answers. If necessary, listen again.

Boy: Oh, really? Did you go to the Central Park?
Nancy: Yes, I did. It was really nice.

Girl: Where did you go on vacation, Kevin?

Girl: Oh, that’s nice. Did you play volleyball?
Kevin: No, I didn’t.
Girl: Well, did you swim?
Kevin: Yes, I did. The water was really warm.

Boy: Where did you go on vacation?
Julie: I stayed at home.
Boy: Oh. So, did you go to the movies or anything?
Julie: No, I didn’t.
Boy: Did you study for exams?
Julie: Yes, I did.

(2) Listen and check
Let the students listen again and check the answers you hear in the chart in 2b, Section A according to the recordings in 2a, Section A. If they are not clear yet, listen again.

(3) Listen and imitate
Have the students listen one more time and repeat each sentence. Pay attention to the students’ reading. Help them and correct their pronunciation and intonation when necessary.
Step 6: Speak
(1) Give a model
Have a conversation with a student as a model. The conversation may be like this:
-Where did you go on vacation?
-I went to….
-Did you go to…?
-Yes, I did.
-Did you…?
-No, I didn’t. But I….
(2) Make a conversation
Ask the students to practice making conversations in pairs by following the example above.
(3) Act out
Let three or more pairs show how good their conversations are. Ask the other students to give their comments after each show.
Step 5: Assign homework
(1)Ask the students to listen to the conversations in 1b, 2a,in Section
A and make sure they can make up their own conversations.
(2) Ask the students to find some photos taken on vacation and bring them to school the next day.
