An Israeli law banning too-skinny models went into effect with the start of 2013. The law, approved last March in Israel, requires models to prove they have maintained a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 18.5 for three months before a fashion show. That means a woman who is 1.8meters tall can weigh no less than 119 pounds.
“This law is another step in the war against eating disorders,” said physician Adatto. “Underweight models,” he explained, “can no longer serve as ideal models for innocent young peo ple who copy their false image of being skinny.”
But some critics in this country say it is misguided, focusing on weight instead of health. They also say the Israeli ban is bound to fail because of the strong power of the fashion industry. “I think it’s an approach that isn’t going to work.” Said eating disorder expert Susan Ice, who worked with an organization which creates a healthy working environment for models.
But Adatto told the reporter that he began to concern the issue after meeting an aspiring
model who looked like she needed to be hospitalized. He said. "I realized that only legislation can change the situation. There was no time to waste, so many girls were dieting to death."
However, the efforts to regulate models’ weight in Spain and Italy h ave not resulted in part because of difficulties in determining reliable methods of measuring weight and health."
Still, folks including Ice say there's no denying that images from Hollywood and the fashion industry can be difficult for young women to deal with. "Certainly I don't believe the modeling industry has caused the rise in eating disorders, but it makes it harder," she says. "It's a difficult recovery environment, worshiping thinness as the beauty ideal."
36.What does BMI in the first paragraph refer to?

A.it misleads young women to form a bad eating habit
B.the fashion industry is much too influential

Some animals will defend their territory by fighting with
those who try to invade it. Fighting, however, is not often the best
choice, since it uses up a large amount of energy, and can result in
injury or even death. Most animals rely on various threats, either
through sounds or smells. The songs of birds, the drumming of
woodpeckers and the loud calls of monkeys are all warnings that
carry for long distances, advertising to possible invaders that someone else’s territory is being approached. Many animals rely on smells to mark their territories or leaving droppings around the territories. Other animals will be warned off the territory without ever meeting with the territory’s defender.
Sometimes, these warnings may be ignored, and an invader may move accidentally into a
neighboring territory, or two animals may meet near the border of their nearby territories. When the two animals meet, they will generally threaten each other with visual displays. These displays will often exaggerate an animal’s size by putting up feathers or fur, or will show off the animal’s weapons. The animals may go through all the behavior of fighting without ever actually touching each other. The displays are generally performed best near the center of an animal’s territory, where it is more likely to attack an invader and where retreating becomes more of a choice.
Actual fighting usually only happens in overcrowded conditions, when resources are not enough. Serious injury can result, and old or sick animals may die. Leading to a more balanced population size. Under most natural conditions, territoriality is an effective way of maintaining a healthy population. The study of social behaviors such as territoriality in animals may also help up to understand human society.

A.What animals’ territory is usually like.
B.How animals deal with different threats.
C.How animals defend their territory.
D.Where animal fights take place frequently.

42.What does the underlined word “exaggerate” in the second paragraph mean?
A.enlarge B.change C.shake D.shrink
43.An actual fight will happen when .
A.animals meet near the border of their territory
B.the invader enters the defender’s territor y
C.the defender notices the invader smaller than itself
D.the living resources are limited in the territory

I caught up just as Reena, my teammate from India, looked behind her and noticed there was one person missing. She swung around on her skis.in shock and spotted me in the near distance.

President Barack Obama has complained about the loss of privacy that comes with being leader of the United States, regretting the loss of simple pleasures such as a long walk or a trip to the car wash or supermarket. "I just miss - I miss being anonymous," he said. "I miss Saturday morning, rolling out of bed, not shaving, getting into my car with my girls, driving to the supermarket, squeezing the fruit, getting my car washed, taking walks. I can't take a walk. " His dream, he said, was to "go through Central Park and watch folks passing by... spend the day watching people --- I miss that".
Faced with angry criticism for playing more golf than most previous occupants of the White
House, he explained that the sport was simply the best way of getting away from it all. "It's the only excuse I have to get outside for four hours in a row," he told Hearst magazines.
Though he said he enjoyed his life in the White House, he felt disappointed with some of the ways of Washington, which he has failed in his pledge to change, such as the "kabuki dance" among political parties before serious policy discussions begin. His comments may be seen as vindication (证实) by critics who have accused him of appearing too detached (超然的), and being slow to engage in vital issues such as Libya and the near shutdown of the US government last week.
Since arriving at the White House in January 2009, Mr. Obama has already racked up 60 rounds of golf in office, more than George W Bush did in his eight years.
In terms of ability, Golf Digest magazine has ranked Mr. Obama eighth out of the 18 presidents who played the game since it became established in the early 20th century.

A. The president is really a great golf player.
B. There are always unnecessary procedures among political parties.
C. The president lost a lot privacy, but he loves the life in the White House.
D. The president seems to have no interest in some really important issues.
51. According to the text, which of the following statements is true about Barack Obama?
A. He has lost privacy ever since he became president.
B. He regrets to become the U. S. president.
C. He couldn't play too much golf because of people being angry with him.

Europeans should try to stay indoors if ash from Iceland's volcano starts settling, the World Health Organization warned Friday as small amounts fell in Iceland, Scotland and Norway.
WHO spokesman Daniel Epstein said the tiny ash is potentially dangerous for people when it starts to reach the Earth because particles (粒子) taken in by people can enter the lungs and
cause breathing problems. And he also said Europeans who go outside might want to consider wearing a mask.
Other experts, however, weren't convinced the volcanic ash would have a major effect on peoples' health and said WHO's warnings were "hysterical." They said volcanic ash was much less dangerous than cigarette smoke or pollution. Volcanic ash is made of fine particles of fragmented volcanic rock. It is light gray to black and can be as fine as talcum powder(滑石粉). During a volcanic eruption, the ash can be breathed deep into the lungs and cause irritation (过敏) even in healthy people. But once it falls from a greater distance — like from the cloud currently hovering above Europe — its health effects are often minimal, experts say.
"Not all particles are created equal," said Ken Donaldson, a professor at the University of Edinburgh, "In the great scheme of things, volcanic ash is not all that harmful." And he said most Europeans' exposure to volcanic ash would be ignored and that only those in the near districts of the Icelandic volcano would likely be at risk.
Dr. Stephen Spiro, a professor of the British Lung Foundation, said the further the particles travel, the less dangerous they will be. "The cloud has already passed over northern Scotland and we haven't heard of any ill effects there," he said. Spiro said to wear masks or stay indoors to avoid volcanic ash was "over the top" and "a bit hysterical."
52. The text is mainly about .
A. the effect of volcanic ash
B. the health risk of volcanic ash
C. the disadvantages of volcanic ash
D. the opinions on health risk of volcanic ash
53. Which one is true according to Paragraph 3?
A. The volcanic ash’s effects on Europeans were little.
B. The ash caused irritation even in healthy people.
C. Other experts thought WTO’S warnings were useful.
D. The volcanic ash was more dangerous than cigarette smoke or pollution.
54. The underlined word “hysterical” in Paragraph4 most probably means .
A. practical
B. overstated
C. valuable
D. amazing
55 What can we learn from paragraph 4 ?
A. The volcanic ash wouldn’t be harmful to people.
B. All experts thought the volcanic ash did great harm to our health.
C. People close to the volcano would likely be at risk according to some experts.
D. Europeans should stay indoors because Iceland's volcano starts settling.

Most people feel lonely sometimes, but it usually only lasts between a few minutes and a few hours. This kind of loneliness is not serious. In fact, it is quite normal. For some people, though, loneliness can last for years. Now researchers say there are three different types of loneliness.
The first kind of loneliness is temporary. This is the most common type. It usually disappears quickly and does not require any special attention. The second kind, situational loneliness, is a natural result of a particular situation-for example, family problem, the death of a loved one, or moving to a new place. Although this kind of loneliness can cause physical problems, such as headache and sleeplessness, it usually does not last for more than a year.
The third kind of loneliness is the most severe. Unlike the second type, chronic (the opposite of “temporary”) loneliness usually lasts more than two years and has no specific cause. People who experience habitual loneliness have problems socializing and becoming close to others. Unfortunately, many chronically lonely people think there is little or nothing they can do to improve their condition.
Psychologists agree that one important factor in loneliness is a person's social contacts, for example, friends, family members, coworkers, etc. We depend on various people for different reasons. our families give us emotional support, our parents and teachers give us guidance, and our friends share similar interests and activities. However, psychologists have found that, though lonely people may have many social contacts, they sometimes feel they should have more. They question their popularity.
Psychologists are trying to find ways to help habitually lonely people for two reasons: they are unhappy and unable to socialize and there is a connection between chronic loneliness and serious illness as heart disease, while temporary and situational loneliness can be a sad, and
