Spring is here and so is the cycling season. Here are some tips on how to do it safely and comfortably.
Watch your feet—Pushing with the wrong part of the foot can raise your risk of developing a painful injury of the heel and arch (足背), says Rob Werstine, a sports physiotherapist (理疗师) and board member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. You should push with the ball of your foot, he says.
Layer up—While it's still cool, wear layers of clothing, with clothing close to the body that breathes and outer layers that do not absorb water. Go for bright colors that increase your visibility (可见度).Be reasonable—If you are just starting out and aren't in good shape, don't sign up for a 50-kilometre ride. And while cycling is great exercise for people who want to get into shape, if your doctor advises you not to do tiring exercise, cycling shouldn't be your starting position,Werstine says. Walk to begin getting into shape and then graduate to cycling.
Fix the fit—If you develop lower back pain or numbness in your hands and fingers from cycling, it could be because your bike isn't adjusted properly for your height. A good cycle shopper can help you find the right height for the seat and handlebars, but if you have continuing problems, consider consulting a bike fit physiotherapist, Werstine says.
Be mindful—You have to pay attention on the roads to vehicles, other cyclists and pedestrians (行人). Consider taking a cycling safety course to practise your skills. Or do some reading about how to avoid dangerous cycling situations, bicyclesafe. com, for instance, lists 10 types of car-bike accidents and tells us how to avoid them.

Why play games? Because they are fun,and a lot more besides. Following the rules... planning your next move... acting as a team member... these are all “game” ideas that you will come across throughout your life.
Think about some of the games you played as a young child, such as rope-jumping and hide-and-seek. Such games are entertaining and fun. But perhaps more importantly, they_translate_life_into_exciting_dramas that teach children some of the basic rules they will be expected to follow the rest of their lives, such as taking turns and cooperating (合作).
Many children's games have a practical side. Children around the world play games that prepare them for work they will do as grown-ups. For instance, some Saudi Arabian children play a game called bones, which sharpens the hand-eye coordination (协调) needed in hunting.
Many sports encourage national or local pride. The most famous games of all, the Olympic Games, bring athletes from around the world together to take part in friendly competition. People who watch the event wave flags, knowing that a gold medal is a win for an entire country, not just the athlete who earned it. For countries experiencing natural disasters or war, an Olympic win can mean so much.
Sports are also an event that unites people. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world. People on all continents play it—some for fun and some for a living. Nicolette Iribarne, a Californian soccer player, has discovered a way to spread hope through soccer. He created a foundation to provide poor children with not only soccer balls but also a promising future.
Next time you play your favorite game or sport, think about why you enjoy it, what skills are needed, and whether these skills will help you in other aspects of your life.

In very general terms, popular culture includes the movies, television shows, sports, music, cooking, clothing styles and other examples of mass culture that society produces.
Many professors who study culture argue about what is,what is not, and what once was but is no longer popular culture. The fact that popular culture is always changing makes it even more difficult to define (给……下定义) exactly.
Most people would probably agree that popular culture is influenced in some way by the cultural products that sell well. Some experts note the differences between a popular or “low” culture and a “high” culture valued by wealthier and better-educated people in society. For example, such experts might say that a song by Britney Spears is an example of popular culture, but music by classical composers like Mozart or Bach is not.
Then again, other experts believe that there is no longer a “low” or a “high” culture because the two have mixed together. The American economist (经济学家) Tyler Cowen does not believe in organizing culture into high and low. Instead, he says that a strong economy makes all kinds of culture possible.
And no discussion of popular culture would be complete without talking about Andy Warhol, the father of Pop art During the 1960s, Warhol created a movement that celebrated turning everyday images of famous people and food advertisements into fine art.
Pop artists praised popular culture in all of its forms and made it the subject of their art. Andy Warhol said that once you understood Pop art, you could never see a sign the same way again. And he said that once you thought of Pop art,you could never see America the same way again.
8.Why is it difficult to define popular culture?
A.It is changing all the time.
B.Professors don't know what it is.
C.It stands for specific contents.
D.It varies from country to country.

11.What would be the best title for the passage?

D.How to define high and low cultures

Next time a customer comes to your office, offer him a cup of coffee. And when you're doing your holiday shopping online, make sure you're holding a large glass of iced tea. The physical sensation (感觉) of warmth encourages emotional warmth, while a cold drink in hand prevents you from making unwise decisions—those are the practical lesson being drawn from recent research by psychologist John A. Bargh.
Psychologists have known that one person's perception (感知) of another's “warmth” is a powerful determiner in social relationships. Judging someone to be either “warm” or “cold” is a primary consideration, even trumping evidence that a “cold” person may be more capable. Much of this is rooted in very early childhood experiences,Bargh argues, when babies' conceptual sense of the world around them is shaped by physical sensations, particularly warmth and coldness. Classic studies by Harry Harlow, published in 1958, showed monkeys preferred to stay close to a cloth “mother” rather than one made of wire, even when the wire “mother”carried a food bottle. Harlow's work and later studies have led psychologists to stress the need for warm physical contact from caregivers to help young children grow into healthy adults with normal social skills.
Feelings of “warmth” and “coldness” in social judgments appear to be universal. Although no worldwide study has been done,Bargh says that describing people as “warm” or “cold” is common to many cultures, and studies have found those perceptions influence judgment in dozens of countries.
To test the relationship between physical and psychological warmth, Bargh conducted an experiment which involved 41 college students. A research assistant who was unaware of the study's hypotheses (假设), handed the students either a hot cup of coffee,or a cold drink, to hold while the researcher filled out a short information form. The drink was then handed back. After that, the students were asked to rate the personality of “Person A” based on a particular description. Those who had briefly held the warm drink regarded Person A as warmer than those who had held the iced drink.
“We are grounded in our physical experiences even when we think abstractly,” says Bargh.
12.According to Paragraph 1, a person's emotion may be affected by ________.
A.the visitors to his office
B.the psychology lessons he has
C.his physical feeling of coldness
D.the things he has bought online

13.The author mentions Harlow's experiment to show that ________.
A.adults should develop social skills
B.babies need warm physical contact
C.caregivers should be healthy adults
D.monkeys have social relationships

依据第二段的最后一句话,尤其“... to stress the need for warm physical contact from caregivers to help young children grow into healthy adults with normal so cial skills”可知答案为B项。

14.In Bargh's experiment, the students were asked to ________.
A.evaluate someone's personality
B.write down their hypotheses
C.fill out a personal information form
D.hold coffee and cold drink alternatively

依据倒数第二段的倒数第二句“After that, the students were asked to rate (evaluate评价) the personality of ‘Person A’ based on a particular description”可知应选A项。

15.We can infer from the passage that ________.
A.abstract thinking does not come from physical experiences
B.feelings of warmth and coldness are studied worldwide
C.physical temperature affects how we see others
D.capable persons are often cold to others

Are you a problem shopper? The answer is yes if you or someone else thinks that you sometimes get carried away with shopping. __16__ If people have regrets later about their shopping, or have an out-of-control feeling about the quantities of what they buy or the amount of money they use, they may be considered to be problem shoppers.
__17__ Addictive shoppers feel driven by the desire to shop and spend money. They experience great anxiety which drives them to shop and spend money and they feel a rush during the time when they are occupied with the shopping activity.
__18__ For some people, the motivation is a desire for status, power, beauty or success. Some love to shop as it makes them feel valued in the eyes of the shop assistants. Others shop simply because it makes them forget, at least temporarily, anxiety, fear or unhappiness in their life.
__19__ For example, there are some malls where you can't see clocks displaying the time because they don't want you to become too aware of the time you spend there. What's more, food courts, coffee shops and restrooms are provided, so you don't have to leave the mall because of your physical needs.
Therefore, once you become aware of how market forces work, you will certainly come to control your shopping behavior. For example, how much time you will spend and what areas you will visit can be decided before you enter the mall. Keep a written account of what items you will buy and how much money you will spend. __20__That is vital for gaining self-control.
A.Shopping will waste too much of your time.
B.A few people shop to relieve their boredom or emptiness.
C.Some shopping malls are designed to encourage continual shopping.
D.Extreme shopping can lead to a more serious problem—addictive shopping.
E.Don't take too much money with you so you can control the number of the items.
F.In other words, do you or does someone else think you are occupied in extreme shopping?
G.Make a plan for what you are going to buy before you feel the urge to shop and then stick to it.

Dear_editor,
We_took_part_in_a_voluntary_activity_organized_by_our_school_on_June_23.
We gathered at the City Square, passing leaflets to passersby from which they can learn what haze is and what harm the smoggy weather does to people's health. The leaflets called for the public's attention to the serious pollution and called on them to take action to do their bit. Some made a public speech, telling people about the symptoms of the diseases caused by haze.
We learned much from the activity, which offered us an opportunity to make a contribution to society. We learned to tell the public about the situation concerning everyone and take responsibility for promoting a public cause.
Best_wishes!
Yours,
