HSSFCellStyle cellStyle = wb.createCellStyle();//建立新的cell样式

Page 15A: I’m concerned about the African elephants. What do you know about them?B: Well, I know that they are being hunted and their habitat is getting smaller, so they are in danger of extinction. Elephants need large living spaces, so it’s difficult for them to adapt to the changes.A: That’s terrible. What measures are being taken to help them?B: The authorities are under pressure to build elephant parks and tell people not to buy elephant products. Page 16A Day in the CloudsThe air is thin and we have to rest several times on the short hike from camp. To our left, snow-covered mountains disappear into clouds that seem almost close enough to touch. On the plain in front of us, we can’t just make out a herd of graceful animals. This is why we are here-to observe Tibetan antelopes.Tibetan antelopes live on the plains of Tibet, Xinjiang, and Qinghai. Watching them move slowly across the green grass, I’m struck by their beauty. I’m also reminded of the danger they are in. They are being hunted, illegally, for the valuable fur.My guide is Zhaxi, a villager from Changtang. He works at the Changtang National Nature Reserve. The reserve is a shelter for the animals and plants of northwestern Tibet. To Zhaxi, the land is sacred and protecting the wildlife is a way of life. We’re not trying to save the animals,” he says. “Actually, we’re trying to save ourselves.”The 1980s and 1990s were bad times for the Tibetan antelope. The population dropped by more than 50 percent. Hunters were shooting antelopes to make profits. Their habitats were becoming smaller as new roads and railways were built. In order to save this species from extinction, the Chinese government placed it under national protection. Zhaxi and other volunteers watched over the antelopes day and night to keep them safe from attacks. Bridges and gates were added to let the antelopes move easily and keep them safe from cars and trains. The measures were effective. The antelope population has recovered and in June 2015, the Tibetan antelope was removed from the endangered species list. The government, however, does not intend to stop the protection programmes, since the threats to the Tibetan antelope have not yet disappeared. In the evening I drink a cup of tea and watch the stars. I think about the antelopes and what Zhaxi told me. Much is being done to protect wildlife, but if we really want to save the planet, we must change our way of life. Only when we learn to exist in harmony with nature can we stop being a threat to wildlife and to our planet.Page 20Give Ugly a ChanceWhen it comes to wildlife protection, all species-the good, the bad, and the ugly-should be treated equally. Pandas, dolphins, and other cute wildlife are important, but we must pay attention to less cute animals, too. The world needs all kinds-without variety, our planet cannot survive. So if you want the future to be beautiful, you have to give ugly a chance.Don’t Make Paper with My HomeBillions of trees are being cut down every year to make paper for humans. Every tree that is cut down is a part of the habitat of animals such as these koalas. In this way a lot of animal homes are being destroyed! Is it right to make animals homeless so that humans can have more paper?Page 23Endangered animals are not the only animals that need help and protection. All animals need help at times, such as pets that are left homeless when their owners move or wounded birds that fall to the ground. They can be kept in an animal rescue center for some time until they recover.Small Friends Pet ShelterThe Small Friends Pet Shelter was started by a group of high school students and their parents when they started to see many pets that were left behind after their families moved away.Today, there are about 70 cats, 50 dogs, three rabbits, and a few turtles living at the shelter. The young people who run the shelter work hard to keep the place clean, take care of the animals, and advertise the animals so that they can be adopted. They have already helped to find homes for nearly 200 animals. It is hard work, but the young people working at the shelter think it is worth it.So if you find a pet that is lost, call the young people at Small Friends Pet Shelter! And if you want to help out, go and volunteer your time and love. That is what the animals really need most.Page 70The Strange Tale of the Milu DeerThe milu deer, one of the China’s most beloved animals, is also one of the strangest. How else could you describe a creature that has the face of a horse, the hoofs of a cow, the antlers pf a red deer, and the tail of a donkey? The history of the species is nearly as strange as its body. The milu deer used to be common in China long ago. Like other deer, they lived together and ate grass as well as the soft parts of trees, such as small branches. However, milu deer were often hunted for food or sport in the past. In 1900, the milu deer disappeared from China. However, before all the deer were killed in China, someone were taken to Europe. The Duke of Bedford from Britain collected all the milu deer from Europe and put them in his deer park. The dear liked the cool, wet weather in England, and their numbers increased year by year. In 1985, 20 milu deer were reintroduced from Britain to China and placed in the Beijing Nanhaizi Milu Park in southern Beijing. The next year another herd of 39 arrived from the UK to the Dafeng Milu Nature Reserve in Jiangsu province. The milu deer certainly seemed happy to be back in China because their numbers started to grow steadily. There were soon so many of them that 64 milu deer were sent to a newly opened reserve in Shihou, Hubei Province from Beijing in the 1990s. They can move freely in the reserve, feed entirely on wild plants, and continue to safely thrive. At the moment, the milu deer are still living in reserves where they are being protected and cared for. As a result, their population is now recovering fast. Soon a new chapter will be added to the strange tale of these special animals. The deer are being trained to survive outside the park so that you can one day all return to the wild. The rescue of the milu deer is already a success story. Now it is up to us to make sure that the deer live happily ever after.Page 72Urban WildlifeCities are diverse ecosystems. In addition to visitors from the wild, such as coyotes (丛林狼) in Los Angeles or boars (野猪) in Berlin, a large number of species share our urban areas. As our cities spread, we need to think about what it is like for other species to have human neighbors.Because cities are built for humans, they do not always provide suitable habitats for wildlife. For example, most city parks are kept neat and tidy so that humans will find them beautiful. But when we cut grass or plant flowers, we destroy natural habitats. Our actions sometimes help other species. When a bridge in Austin, Texas were repaired, engineers added small gaps running along the length of its bottom. This made a good home for bats and soon the bridge was the home of thousands of bats. At first, people were afraid of the bats and tried to get rid of them. Now they have come to value their winged neighbors. The bats are a tourist attraction, and they eat lots of bugs every night. There are also structures built with the objective of bringing wildlife into the city. The Beijing Olympic Forest Park is a good example. The park used native plants and created open, natural spaces for wildlife. The result is a zone in Beijing with over 160 species of birds. In many ways, the park is the opposite of a zoo. Instead of being kept in cages, wildlife can move about freely.Another example is a 2011 proposal for a tall “Birdscraper” building in New York. The building is intended to protect birds and fight pollution at the same time. It would be in the middle of a lake, birds would sit on it and their droppings would fall into the water. The drawings would feed water plants which would then create oxygen through photosynthesis. If you learn to share our space, we can become better neighbors to the wildlife around us. If we do not, more species will become extinct and our own future will be endangered.。

And in your opinion, what makes it such an influential piece?● What is your knowledge of Chinese painting, its subj ect matter, painting techniques, painting tools, and art perceptions?● What are the similarities or / and differences between Chinese and Western paintings in the aspects mentioned above? You can choose one of them and develop your ideas.● Why do such si milarities or / and differences exist between Chinese and Western paintings?Demystifying Mona LisaE. H. Gombrich1 There is a work of Leonardo's which is perhaps even more famous than The Last Supper.2 It is the portrait of a Florentine lady whose name was Lisa, "Mona Lisa." A fame as great as that of Leonardo's Mona Lisa is not an unmixed blessing for a work of art. We become so used to seeing it on picture postcards, and even advertisements, that we find it difficult to see it with fresh eyes as the painting by a real man portraying a real woman of flesh and blood. But it is worthwhile to forget what we know, or believe we know, about the picture, and to look at it as if we were the first people ever to set eyes on it.3 What strikes us first is the amazing degree to which Lisa looks alive. She really seems to look at us and to have a mind of her own. Like a living being, she seems to change before our eyes and to looka little different every time we come back to her. Even in photographs of the picture we experience this strange effect, but in front of the original in the Louvre it is almost uncanny. Sometimes she seems to mock us, and then again we seem to catch something like sadness in her smile. All this sounds rather mysterious, and so it is; that is so often the effect of a great work of art. Nevertheless, Leonardo certainly knew how he achieved this effect, and by what means.4 That great observer of nature knew more about the way we use our eyes than anybody who had ever lived before him.He had clearly seen a problem which the conquest of nature had posed to artists — a problem no less intricate than the one of combining correct drawing with a harmonious composition. The great works of the Italian Quattrocento masters who followed the lead given by Masaccio have one thing in common: Their figures look somewhat hard and harsh, almost wooden. The strange thing is that it clearly is not lack of patience or lack of knowledge that is responsible for this effect. No one could be more patient in his imitation of nature than Van Eyck; no one could know more about correct drawing and perspective than Mantegna. And yet, for all the grandeur and impressiveness of their representations of nature, their figures look more like statues than any living being. The reason may be that the more conscientiously we copy a figure line by line and detail by detail, the less we can imagine that it ever really moved and breathed. It looks as if the painter had suddenly cast a spell over it, and forced it to stand stock-still for evermore, like the people in "The Sleeping Beauty." Artists had tried various ways out of this difficulty. Botticelli, for instance, had tried to emphasize in his picture the waving hair and the fluttering garments of his figures, to make them look less rigid in outline. But only Leonardo found the true solution to the problem. The painter must leave the beholder something to guess. If the outlines are not quite so firmly drawn, if the form is left a little vague, as though disappearing into a shadow, this impression of dryness and stiffness will be avoided. This is Leonardo's famous invention which the Italians call "sfumato" — the blurred outline and mellowed colors that allow one form to merge with another and always leave something to our imagination.5 If we now return to the Mona Lisa, we may understand something ofits mysterious effect. We see that Leonardo has used the means of his "sfumato" with the utmost deliberation. Everyone who has ever tried to draw or scribble a face knows that what we call its expression rests mainly in two features: the corners of the mouth, and thecorners of the eyes. Now it is precisely these parts which Leonardo has left deliberately indistinct, by letting them merge into a soft shadow. That is why we are never quite certain in what mood Mona Lisa is really looking at us. Her expression always seems just to elude us. It is not only behind it. Leonardo has done a very daring thing, which perhaps only a painter of his consummate mastery could risk. If we look carefully at the picture, we see that the two sides do not quite match. This is most obvious in the fantastic dream landscape in the background. The horizon on the left side seems to lie much lower than the one on the right. Consequently, when we focus on the left side of the picture, the woman looks somehow taller or more erect than if we focus on the right side. And her face, too, seems to change with this change of position, because, even here, the two sides do not quite match. But with all these sophisticated tricks, Leonardo might have produced a clever piece of jugglery rather than a great work of art, had he not known exactly how far he could go, and had he not counterbalanced his daring deviation from nature by an almost miraculous rendering of the living flesh. Look at the way in which he modeled the hand, or the sleeves with their minute folds. Leonardo could be as painstaking as any of his forerunners in the patient observation of nature. Only he was no longer merely the faithful servant of the nature. Long ago, in the distant past, people had looked at portraits with awe, because they had thought that in preserving the likeness the artist could somehow preserve the soul of the person he portrayed. Now the great scientist, Leonardo, had made some of the dreams and fears of these first image-makers come true. He knew the spell which would infuse life into the colors spread by his magic brush.Language Points:1. Even in photographs of the picture we experience this strange effect, but in front of the original in the Louvre it is almost uncanny. (Para. 3, Sentence 4)uncanny: a. very strange and difficult to explain 离奇的;不可思议的e.g. His powers of observation were uncanny.2. He had clearly seen a problem which the conquest of nature had posed to artists — a problem no less intricate than the one of combining correct drawing with a harmonious composition. (Para. 4, Sentence 2)1) conquest: n. [U] when you gain control of or deal successfully with something that is difficult or dangerous The conquest of this rare disease has always been her aim.2) intricate: a. very complicated and difficult to understand or learn 复杂难解的e.g. The plot of the novel is intricate and fascinating.3. And yet, for all the grandeur and impressiveness of their representations of nature, their figures look more like statues than any living being. (Para. 4, Sentence 6)grandeur: n. [U] impressive beauty, power or size 壮丽;雄伟e.g. The painting shows the grandeur of the royal palace. This sentence can be paraphrased like this: In spite of the grandness and magnificence displayed in their faithful imitation of nature, their figures look more like statues, which lack vitality, than any living being.4. The reason may be that the more conscientiously we copy a figure line by line and detail by detail, the less we can imagine that it ever really moved and breathed. (Para. 4, Sentence 7) conscientiously: ad. carefully when doing something that is your job or duty to do 勤勉认真地;细心负责地e.g. The devoted minister carried out her duties conscientiously. In this sentence, the structure "the more … the less / more …" is used to say that if an amount of something increases, another change happens as a result.5. This is Leonard's famous invention which the Italians call "sfumato" — the blurred outline and mellowed colors that allow one form to merge with another and always leave something to our imagination. (Para. 4, Sentence 14)1) merge with: if two things merge, or merge with each other, you cannot clearly see them, hear them, etc. as separate things 相融;融入e.g. Memories seemed to merge with reality.2) leave sth. to sb.'s imagination: let someone imagine what is being conveyed 为…… The writer decided not to explain the theme, but to leave the theme to the readers' imagination.6. Everyone who has ever tried to draw or scribble a face knows that what we call its expression rests mainly in two features: the corners of the mouth, and the corners of the eyes. (Para. 5, Sentence 3)1) scribble: vt. to write something quickly and untidily 潦草地写;乱画e.g. I scribbled his phone number in my address book.2) rest in: lie in 在于e.g. Many employees' satisfaction rests in the kind of pride stimulated by the job.7. Leonardo has done a very daring thing, which perhaps only apainter of his consummate mastery could risk. (Para. 5, Sentence 8) consummate: a. showing a lot of skill 技艺高超的e.g. He won the race with consummate ease.8. But with all these sophisticated tricks, Leonardo might have produced a clever piece of jugglery rather than a great work of art, had he not known exactly how far he could go, and had he not counterbalanced his daring deviation from nature by an almost miraculous rendering of the living flesh. (Para. 5, Sentence 14)1) jugglery: n. [C] artful trickery designed to achieve an end 玩花招;欺骗e.g. No party could survive such a record of political trickery and financial jugglery.2) counterbalance: vt. to have an equal and opposite effect to something such as a change, feeling, etc. Riskier investments tend to be counterbalanced by high rewards. This sentence can be paraphrased like this: But with all these complicated skills, people were likely to play some artful tricks in painting, not to produce a masterpiece. But fortunately Leonardo knew exactly to what extent he could go, and he presented the portrait with such miraculous vitality that his bold step of not following the tradition didn't become an issue.

You should decide on the best choice.Passage OneQuestions 31 to 35 are based on the following passage.Everybody in this world is different from one another. But do you know that understanding differences can help you better manage your money? As we grow up, we gradually develop a set of our own values or beliefs. These are influenced by society, our family, the education we receive and so on. Once this value system is set up, it’s not easy to change later in life. Financial experts say that everyone also has their own belief of how to manage their finances. This is part of our value system and it has a great impact on the way we look after our money.According to our different values, experts put us in three categories. They are: the ant, the cricket and the snail. The ant — works firstJust like ants who work heart and soul in summer in order to store food for winter, these people don’t care about enjoying the moment. They work very hard and save money they earn so that they can enjoy life when they get old and retire. The ant loves to save but they could make more out of their money if they were willing to invest in some funds and stocks with low risk. The cricket — fun firstThe cricket wants to enjoy everything now and doesn’t think too much about the future. They even borrow money when they really want something. Many young people now belong to this group. These people have little savings. When they get old, they might have problems. They should learn to save and buy insurance. The snail — lives under pressureThe snail refers to people who make life difficult for themselves. They take big long-term loans from the bank in order to buy things such as luxury houses. They are happy to take big loans even though they are not sure they can afford it. This can cause problems in the future. They should plan more carefully.31.According to this passage, value system __________________.A) is a set of our own values or beliefsB) is the way we spend our moneyC) will not change later in lifeD) is the belief of how to manage our finances正确答案: A32.The ant refers to people who ___________________.A) work very hard in summer in order to store food for winterB) could make more money if they work harderC) only care about enjoying the moment by working very hardD) save money they earn for the later life when they get old and retire正确答案: D33.Mr. Smith always enjoys spending a weekend with his friends, fishing, hunting and playing cards. It was a small coffee shop that roasted its own coffee beans. The coffee shop's business did well, and by 1981 there were three more Starbucks stores in Seattle.Things really began to change for the company in 1981. That year, Howard Schultz met the three men who ran Starbucks. Schultz worked in New York for a company that made kitchen equipment. He noticed that Starbucks ordered a large number of special coffee makers, and he was curious about the company. Schultz went to Seattle to see what Starbucks did, and he liked what he saw. He wanted to become part of the company. In 1982, the original Starbucks owners hired Schultz as the company's head of marketing. In 1983, Schultz traveled to Italy. The unique atmosphere of the coffee bars there caught his eye. To Schultz it seemed that Italians spent their daily lives in three places: home, work, and coffee bars. His experience in Italy gave him a new idea for Starbucks back in Seattle.Schultz created an atmosphere for Starbucks coffee shopsthat was comfortable, and customers everywhere seemed to like it. Between 1987 and 1992, Starbucks opened 150 new stores —and that was only the beginning. In fact, by the year 2000, three new Starbucks stores opened somewhere around the world every day!Today, Starbucks has thousands of stores, including stores in twenty-six countries. One thing that helps make Starbucks succeed in cities outside the United States is the way Starbucks works with local stores and restaurants. By working together with a store already in the city, Starbucks gets an understanding of customers in the city. This understanding helps Starbucks open stores in the right locations for their customers.36.The main idea of the passage is ___________________.A) how Starbucks has grownB) what Starbucks makesC) Starbucks' customersD) how Starbucks makes its coffee正确答案: A37.Which is true about Starbucks' first ten years of business?A) It grew very quickly.B) It was run by Howard Schultz.C) It made special coffee makers.D) It was a small company. D38.Howard Schultz is ________________.A) a coffee seller in New YorkB) an Italian coffee makerC) the man who changed the companyD) one of the original owners of the company正确答案: C39.About how many new Starbucks opened in 1999?A) 3.B) 150.C) 300.D) More than 1000. D40.What helps Starbucks succeed in places outside the United States?A) Learning about local customers.B) Only selling locally produced coffee beans.C) Working with other major coffee-making companies.D) Opening restaurants in just a few locations each year. APart III Vocabulary and Structure ( 10 minutes )Directions: There are a number of incomplete sentences in this part.
