（一）previewing
1.the steps of previewing a textbook预习教科书的步骤
(1)read the title of the book读这本书
(2)read the table of contents读取表中的内容
(3)read the prepace
(4)read briefly the index, glossary, appendix, bibliography and other special supplements读词汇，附录，索引，目录和其他特殊的补充

(1)look at the title
(2)look for subtitles and subheadings
(3)look at the lists of goals or objectives
(4)look at the first paragraph
(5)look at any questions that appear after the reading
(6)look at the key words in different prints
(7)look for a summary
（二）understanding the topic
A topic is the general subject of the sentences in a paragraph or that of the paragraphs in a text. ti’s much like a title for the paragraph or the text. Identifying the topic of what you are reading helps you to focus on the general subject of a reading.
（三）determining the main idea
(1)relating topic and details
(2)identifying the main idea in various locations in the paragraph----first, middle or end. In fact you must find out the main idea yourself
（四）guessing meanings of words from context
(1)synonym clues
(2)antonym clues
(3)example clues
(4)clues of word association
（五）recognizing organization and seeing relationship

（六）finding the point of view
Point of view means ‘through whose eyes’ the readers sees what happens in a narrative.
