第二部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

A
I was born an albino (白化病人) in Pennsylvania in 1945. No one in my family had ever known what an albino was and what it meant to be albino.
My family and friends treated me like everybody else. That was just about the best thing they could have done. It helped me trust myself, so when troubles came along, I could deal with them.
Like most a lbinos, I had terrible eyesight, but the fact that I could hardly see didn’t trouble me that much.
Kids would tease me, calling me “Whitey”. People stared at me when I held reading material right at the tip (尖) of my nose so that I could see it well enough. Even when I was eight, movie-theater clerks started asking me to pay full price because I “looked older.”
The worst part for me was that because my eyesight was so bad, I couldn’t play sports very well. I didn’t give up trying, though. I shot hoops (篮球框) every day. And I studied harder.
Eventually, I got better at school and loved it. By the time I got to college, I was double majoring (专业), going to summer school and busying myself with every activity I could find. I had learned to be proud of being an a lbino. I did my best to make “albino” a positive word. And I decided to make my living with my eyes—and in sports.
I couldn’t see very well to play sports, but with a solid education and a drive to do it, I could make a living involved in the area I loved. I’ve done it now for over thirty years in print and in video, and now in cyberspace (网络空间). People make jokes about how I’m the only “blind editor” they know, but the jokes are affectionate. Some of them are the signs of respect.
I was just a(an) proud albino kid from the coal country of Pennsylvania. I now realize that being born an albino helped me to overcome difficulties, gain confidence and be proud of my personal achievement.
21. According to the author, _____ helped him a lot in dealing with troubles.

22. All the following are the signs of being an albino for the author EXCEPT _____
A. an older appearance
B. poor eyesight
C. being unable to play sports
D. abnormally white skin
23. we can infer from the passage that ______
A. the author’s poor eyesight made him very upset
B. the author holds an optimistic attitude towards his illness.
C. the author finally did well in playing sports after years of practice
D. many people laugh at the author because he attempts to do more than he can

New Yorkers and visitors to the Big Apple will get to ring in the Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year in the U.S., in style with a fireworks display on the Hudson River set to music written by Academy Award-winning composer Tan Dun.
The display is part of the second annual “Happy Chinese New Year: Fantastic Art China” fe stival
held in New York on February 5-10, 2016. The China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), the U.S.-China Cultural Institute and the Cultural Associate of the Committee of 100 announced this year’s events on November 18 at a press conference at the Lincoln Center.
The “Fantastic Art China” festival will feature a larger and more diverse series of artistic and cultural events across New York’s top cultural venues (地点) and landmarks, including the Lincoln Center, Empire State Building and Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
This year’s theme focuses on exploring the complicated relationship between sound and image, said Professor Yu Ding from CAFA, who is also president of Fantastic Art China and in charge of the festival’s design. Lunar New Year, which celebrates the “Year of the Monkey” in 2016, is an opportunity to bring China’s modern art to mainstream America, and the festival serves as an innovative approach to establishing cultural exchange between China and New York City, Yu said.
UNESCO Goodwill Am bassador Tan Dun’s music is a new edition that will be featured at several venues, including a major art exhibition at the Javits Center, events at the Lincoln Center and the fireworks display on the Hudson, which will take place on the evening of February 6. Five barges (游艇) on the river will launch the fireworks designed by CAFA that will tell a story about celebration and conservation.
“We Chinese are fond of nature, so the best way to celebrate the Lunar New Year is to salute with the sounds of nature, such as sounds of water, stone and bamboo,” said Tan Dun at the press conference, “And it will be fun to use the music of water during the firework display.”
In addition to the fireworks, a special lighting show at the Empire State Building will illuminate New York City during the holiday.
Chinese New Year is being recognized as a public school holiday for the first time in New York. Children from the National Dance Institute, which represents 75 schools, will perform traditional Chinese dances at the Li ncoln Center and the Javits Center. And, in celebration of the “Year of the Monkey” events will feature a conservation message about the endangered golden monkey in China.

In today's world of smart phones and notebook computers, most people have at least one time-telling thing with them. Since these digital products are so common, is time running out for the 500-year-old watch? According to some consumers, the answer is yes. New Jersey teenager Charlie Wollman says a watch is “an extra piece of equipment with no necessary function.” Many young adults think so and use their smart phones to tell time. It is said that fewer young people wear watches today than ten years ago. As a result, some people say that the watch industry is at a crossroads.
However, watchmakers optimistically say that watches redeem popularity when consumers reach their 20s and 30s. By then, they are willing to spend money on a quality watch that doesn’t just keep good time. Fifty years ago, watchmakers took pride in their products’ accuracy. But in recent years, the watch industry has changed itself into an accessory business. And today, the image a watch communicates has become more important than the time it tells.
“Complications” —features that go beyond simple timekeeping —are an important part of a watch’s image. Today’s watches offer lots of features that meet almost any personality. These features include compasses, USB drivers, and even other functions that measure the effectiveness of golf swings!
Creativity also plays a key role in designing today’s watches. For example, Japanese watchmaker Tokyoflash makes watches that don’t even look like watches. The company’s popular Shinshoku model uses different color lights to tell time. It looks more like a fashionable bracelet than a watch.
Whether a watch communicates fashion sense, creative talent of a love sports, consumers want their watches to stand out. Nowadays, everyone has the same kind of gadget in their bags, so people want to make a statement with what’ s on their wrists. Will this interest in wrist fashion last? Only time will tell!
28. What can we know from the first paragraph?
A. As most people see, watches are out of fashion.
B. The watch industry will close down sooner or later.
C. Some people feel that watches have been of no use.
D. There are so many choices of watches for teenagers today.
29. The underlined word “redeem” in Paragraph 2 can be replaced by _________.
A. enlarge
B. change
C. regain
D. win
30. Japanese watchmaker Tokyoflash is mentioned in Paragraph 4 to _________.
A. show why Shinshoku watches are popular
B. tell that today’s watches need more imagina tion
C. advertise Shinshoku watches made by Tokyoflash
D. make a comparison between watches and bracelets
31. What might be the most suitable title for the passage?
A. Japanese Watches Stand Out
B. Watches Tell More Than Time
C. Watch Industry Is in a Bad Situation
D. Watches Are Becoming Less Popular
D
Look carefully and you’ll find musicians at the top of almost any industry. The television broadcaster Paula Zahn( cello) and the NBC chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd (French horn) atte nded college on music scholarships; Both Microsoft’s Mr. Allen and the venture capitalist Rogar McNamee have rock bands. Lorry Page, a co-founder of Google, played saxophone in high school. The former World Bank president James D. Wolfensohn has played cello at Carnegie Hall.
The connection isn’t a coincidence. I know because I asked. I put the question to top-flight professionals in industries from tech to finance to media, all of whom had serious ( if often little-known) past lives as musicians. Almost all made a connection between their music training and their professional achievements.
Will your school music program turn your kid into a Paul Allen, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft (guitar)? Or a Woody Allen (clarinet ) ?Probably not. These are outstanding achievers. But the way these and other visionaries (有远见的人) I spoke to process music is interesting.
But the key question is: why does that connection exist? Paul Allen offers an answer. He says music “establish your confidence in the ability to create.” He began playing the violin at age 7 and switched to the guitar as a teenager. Even in the early days of Microsoft, he would pick up his guitar at the end of marathon days of programming. The music was the emotional analog (类比) to his day job, both of them show his different creativity. He says, “something is pushing you to look beyond what currently exists and express yourself in a new way.”
For many of the high achievers I spoke with, music functions as a “hidden language,” as Mr. Wolfensohn calls it, one that enhances the ability to connect different or even opposite ideas. When he ran the World Band, Mr. Wolfensohn traveled to more than 100 countries, often taking in local performances (and occasionally joining in on a borrowed cello), which help ed him understand “the culture of people”.
Consider the qualities these high achievers say music has sharpened : cooperation, creativity, discipline and the capacity to coordinate (协调) conflicting ideas. All are qualities obviously absent from public life. Music may not make you a genius, or rich, or even a better person. But it helps train you to think differently, to process different points of views --- and most important, to take pleasure in listening.
32. The reason why the author quote so many outstanding people as examples in the first paragraph
is ___________.
A. to prove all winners are musicians before
B. to prove the popularity and the charm of music
C. to encourage kids to choose school music program
D. to prove the connection between success and music
33. Which of the following is true?
A. Musicians exist in all industries.
B. Music can certainly make you become a better person.
C. Everybody knows those well-known people are musicians before.
D. Music helps Mr. Wolfensohn have a better understanding of the different culture.
34. The main idea of this passage is that ____________.
A. music is an absolute necessity for everyone
B. music can provide a new way to express yourself
C. music plays an important role in achieving success
D. many musicians are found at the top of almost any industry
35. The author develops the passage mainly _________.
A. by example
B. by comparison
C. by classification
D. by process
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出填入空白处的最佳选项。

选项中有两项为多余选项。

D o You Have the Time? In English, this question has two different meanings. The first one is “Do you know what time it is?” While commonly, this is less frequently used than the simpler question with the same meaning “What time is it?” The other is “Do you have the time (e.g. to do this or that)?” This is a very commonly asked question, whether in American, British, or Australian English. I think the response “I don’t have the time” is most commonly used year after year. 36____ Think about how often you (and I) have used this as an explanation of why we couldn’t do something, take on a new task, help someone, visit someone, etc. Sometimes it’s a statement of fact, and sometimes it’s just an excuse. _____ 37 __However, deep down we each have a pretty clear idea of the difference. In practical terms, the lack of available time seems to be and often is a true reason for why we cannot take something on. ____38 __ “I just don’t have the time” is too often an escape. Once we get to a certain age, when we are generally considered to be grown-ups, we are expected to have developed time management skills. In many instances, “I don’t have the time” has the same meaning as “I am not willing to make the time”. Sure, we’re all busy, but in the end, it’s a matter of which is more important.
______39 ___It doesn’t grow on trees or fall from the sky like raindrops. You make the time as well as most of the related decisions about what is important. ____40 __ If you don’t decide on the use of your time, the decision will be taken away from you. It’s really up to us to decide on how to balance and manage time, and that’s a challenge.
A. No one gives you the time.
B. After all, it’s so convenient as an excuse.
C. The key is what criteria you rely on to make decisions.
D. The distinction here between them is blurry (模糊不清的) and subjective.
E. Actually if we try to rearrange our time, or make a sacrifice, we can make it.
F. But it does mean we need to develop a clear approach to time management.
G. Be aware it’s the world’s most common excuse, whether you speak it out or not.
