Choose the best word (s) for each numbered blank and mark A, B, C or D on the ANSWER SHEET. (10 points)People have speculated for centuries about a future without work .Today is no different, with academics, writers, and activists once again 1 that technology be replacing human workers. Some imagine that the coming work-free world will be defined by 2 . A few wealthy people will own all the capital, and the masses will struggle in an impoverished wasteland.A different and not mutually exclusive 3 holds that the future will be a wasteland of a different sort, one 4 by purposelessness: Without jobs to give their lives 5 , people will simply become lazy and depressed. 6 , today’s unemployed don’t seem to be having a greattime. One Gallup poll found that 20 percent of Americans who have been unemployed for at least a year report having depression, double the rate for 7 Americans. Perhaps this is why many 10 the agonizing dullness of a jobless future. But it doesn’t 11 follow from findings like these that a world without work would be filled with unease. Answer the questions below each text by choosing A, B, C or D. Mark your answers on the ANSWER SHEET. (40 points)Text 1Every Saturday morning, at 9 am, more than 50,000 runners set off to run 5km around their local park. The Parkrun phenomenon began with a dozen friends and has inspired 400 events in the UK and more abroad. Events are free, staffed by thousands of volunteers. Runners range from four years old to grandparents; their times rang e from Andrew Baddeley’s world record 13 minutes 48 seconds up to an hour.Parkrun is succeeding where London’s Olympic “legacy” is failing. Ten years ago on Monday, it was announced that the Games of the 30th Olympiad would be in London. Planning documents pledged that the great legacy of the Games would be to level a nation of sport lovers away from their couches. The population would be fitter, healthier and produce more winners. It has not happened. The number of adults doing weekly sport did rise, byn early 2 million in the run―up to ―but the general population was growing faster. Worse, the numbers are now falling at an accelerating rate. The opposition claims primary school pupils doing at least two hours of sport a week have nearly halved. Obesity has risen among adults and children. Official retrospections continue as to why London 2012 failed to “inspire a generation.” The success of Parkrun offers answers.Parkun is not a race but a time trial: Your only competitor is the clock. The ethos welcomes anybody. There is as much joy over a puffed-out first-timer being clapped over the line as there is about top talent shining. The Olympic bidders, by contrast, wanted to get more people doing sports and to produce more elite athletes. The dual aim was mixed up: The stress on success over taking part was intimidating for newcomers.Indeed, there is something a little absurd in the state getting involved in the planning of such a fundamentally “grassroots”, concept as community sports associations. If there i s a role for government, it should really be getting involved in providing common goods―making sure there is space for playing fields and the money to pave tennis and netball courts, and encouraging the provision of all these activities in schools. But successive governments have presided over selling green spaces, squeezing money from local authorities and declining attention on sport in education. Instead of wordy, worthy strategies, future governments need to do more to provide the conditions for sport to thrive. Or at least not make them worse.21. According to Paragraph1, Parkrun has .[A] gained great popularity[B] created many jobs[C] strengthened community ties[D] become an official festival【答案】[A] gained great popularity22. The author believes that London’s Olympic“legacy” has failed to .[A] boost population growth[B] promote sport participation[C] improve the city’s image[D] increase sport hours in schools【答案】[B] promote sport participation23. Parkrun is different from Olympic games in that it .[A] aims at discovering talents[B] focuses on mass competition[C] does not emphasize elitism[D] does not attract first-timers【答案】[C] does not emphasize elitism24. With regard to mass sport, the author holds that governments should .[A] organize “grassroots” sports events[B] supervise local sports associations[C] increase funds for sports clubs[D] invest in public sports facilities【答案】[D] invest in public sports facilities25. The author’s attitude to what UK governments have done for sports is .[A] tolerant[B] critical[C] uncertain[D] sympathetic【答案】[B] criticalText 2With so much focus on children’s use of screens, it’s easy for parents to forget about their own screen use. “Tech is designed to really suck on you in,” says Jenny Radesky in her study of digital play, “and digital products are there to promote maximal engagement. It makes it hard to disengage, and leads to a lot of bleed-over into the family routine. ”Radesky has studied the use of mobile phones and tablets at mealtimes by giving mother-child pairs a food-testing exercise. She found that mothers who sued devices during the exercise started 20 percent fewer verbal and 39 percent fewer nonverbal interactions with their children. During a separate observation, she saw that phones became a source of tension in the family. Parents would be looking at their emails while the children would be making excited bids for their attention.Infants are wired to look at parents’ faces to try to understand their world, and if t hose faces are blank and unresponsive―as they often are when absorbed in a device―it can be extremely disconcerting foe the children. Radesky cites the “still face experiment” devised by developmental psychologist Ed Tronick in the 1970s. In it, a mother is asked to interact with her child in a normal way before putting on a blank expression and not giving them any visual social feedback; The child becomes increasingly distressed as she tries to capture her mother’s attention. “Parents don’t have to be exqu isitely parents at all times, but there needs to be a balance and parents need to be responsive and sensitive to a child’s verbal or nonverbal expressions of an emotional need,” says Radesky. On the other hand, Tronick himself is concerned that the worries about kids’ use of screens are born out of an “oppressive ideology that demands that parents should always be interacting” with their children: “It’s based on a somewhat fantasized, very white, very upper-middle-class ideology that says if you’re failing to expose your child to 30,000 words you are neglecting them.” Tronick believes that just because a child isn’t learning from the screen doesn’t mean there’s no value to it―particularly if it gives parents time to have a shower, do housework or simply have a break from their child. Parents, he says, can get a lot out of using their devices to speak to a friend or get some work out of the way. This can make them feel happier, which lets then be more available to their child the rest of the time.26. According to Jenny Radesky, digital products are designed to ______.[A] simplify routine matters[B] absorb user attention[C] better interpersonal relations[D] increase work efficiency【答案】[B] absorb user attention27. Radesky’s food-testing exercise shows that mothers’ use of devices ______.[A] takes away babies’ appetite[B] distracts children’s attention[C] slows down babies’ verbal development[D] reduces mother-child communication【答案】[D] reduces mother-child communication28. Radesky’s cites the “still face experiment” to show that _______.[A] it is easy for children to get used to blank expressions[B] verbal expressions are unnecessary for emotional exchange[C] children are insensitive to changes in their parents’ mood[D] parents need to respond to children’s emotional needs【答案】[D] parents need to respond to children’s emotional needs29. The oppressive ideology mentioned by Tronick requires parents to_______.[A] protect kids from exposure to wild fantasies[B] teach their kids at least 30,000 words a year[C] ensure constant interaction with their children[D] remain concerned about kid’s use of screens【答案】[C] ensure constant interaction with their children30. According to Tronick, kid’s use of screens may_______.[A] give their parents some free time[B] make their parents more creative[C] help them with their homework[D] help them become more attentive【答案】[A] give their parents some free timeText 3Today, widespread social pressure to immediately go to college in conjunction with increasingly high expectations in a fast-moving world often causes students to completelyoverlook the possibility of taking a gap year. After all, if everyone you know is going to college in the fall, it seems silly to stay back a year, doesn’t it? And after going t o school for 12 years, it doesn’t feel natural to spend a year doing something that isn’t academic. But while this may be true, it’s not a good enough reason to condemn gap years. There’s always a constant fear of falling behind everyone else on the social ly perpetuated “race to the finish line,” whether that be toward graduate school, medical school or lucrative career. But despite common misconceptions, a gap year does not hinder the success of academic pursuits―in fact, it probably enhances it.Studies from the United States and Australia show that students who take a gap year are generally better prepared for and perform better in college than those who do not. Rather than pulling students back, a gap year pushes them ahead by preparing them for independence, new responsibilities and environmental changes―all things that first-year students often struggle with the most. Gap year experiences can lessen the blow when it comes to adjusting to college and being thrown into a brand new environment, making it easier to focus on academics and activities rather than acclimation blunders. If you’re not convinced of the inherent value in taking a year off to explore interests, then consider its financial impact on future academic choices. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, nearly 80 percent of college students end up changing their majors at least once. This isn’t surprising, considering the basic mandatory high school curriculum leaves students with a poor understanding of themselves listing one major on their college applications, but switching to another after taking college classes. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but depending on the school, it can be costly to make up credits after switching too late in the game. At Boston College, for example, you would have to complete an extra year were you to switch to the nursing school from another department. Taking a gap year to figure things out initially can help prevent stress and save money later on.31. One of the reasons for high-school graduates not taking a gap year is that .[A] they think it academically misleading[B] they have a lot of fun to expect in college[C] it feels strange to do differently from others[D] it seems worthless to take off-campus courses【答案】[C] it feels strange to do differently from others32. Studies from the US and Australia imply that taking a gap year helps .[A] keep students from being unrealistic[B] lower risks in choosing careers[C] ease freshmen’s financial burdens[D] relieve freshmen of pressures【答案】[D] relieve freshmen of pressures33. The word “acclimation” (Line 8, Para. 3) is closest in meaning to .[A] adaptation考研英语二历年真题作文范文第3篇(1)背单词:一定要重视^v^背明白^v^单词。

Overall, the evolution of the Postgraduate entrance examination in 2024 should aim to strike a balance between tradition and innovation, maintaining its significance while adapting to the changing educational landscape.中文翻译: 在2024年,考研依然在中国的教育体系中扮演着重要角色,它为个人追求高级学位和学术成就提供了机会。

It is estimated that in 2004, there will be 500,000 unemployed graduates, thirty percent more than in 2002.There are several reasons for this phenomenon. In the first place, the supply of labor exceeds the demand , hence a shortage of positions. In the second place , many graduates do not want to work in small cities or towns. Last but not the least important , the knowledge of many students is out of date. As a result they cannot meet the requirements of the factories and companies.Serious as the problem seems, we can come up with some measures to deal with it. On one hand , the government should develop our national economy more rapidly, creating more job opportunities. On the other hand , the college students must be realistic in choosing jobs. To: Mr. Adam SmithFrom: Mr. Wang LiSubject: Views on China's Entry into the WTODate: July 1, 2004●参考范文:As required I chose 500 subjects and asked them, through telephone, about what they thought about the recent entry of China into the WTO. They argue that, on one hand, it stands for the government's determination to open China further to the world. On the other hand, they also believe that the WTO needs China, for it is well known that China is quickly becoming the largest market on the surface of our planet.A smaller group of subjects (about 30%) remain suspicious, or pessimistic of the event. They express deep concern for the future of China's state enterprises. This is what we can get from the survey. Nowadays, with the rapid development of the film industry, more and more people are attracted to the cinema. Some people believe that watching movies is a waste of time, while others argue that movies can broaden our horizons and enrich our lives. In my opinion, watching movies can be both entertaining and educational. On the one hand, movies provide us with a means of relaxation and escape from the pressures of daily life. On the other hand, movies can also be a powerful medium for conveying important messages and ideas. For example, many films address social issues such as poverty, discrimination, and environmental degradation. By watching such films, we can gain a deeper understanding of the world around us and become more empathetic individuals. In conclusion, I believe that watching movies is a valuable and enjoyable pastime that can benefit us in many ways.2. 旅游类。

Now I would like to give some opinions of myself about the “White Pollution”.As we know, regulation was made to solve the problem in June 1st of 2008. The use of plastic bags for free was restricted in the supermarket and many other shops. At the beginning, it was carried on well, but now I find plastic bags are used in some small shops for free or with no pay.I am writing to inform you that we should solve this problem soon with the help of your newspaper. (107 words)Postgraduate Association四、Main Reasons of Economic GlobalizationSince the early 1950s, economic globalization has been developing rapidly. Briefly speaking, its reasons mainly include the following ones. The first reason is the technical foundation of economic globalization. Advancements in science and technology have provided the material basis and the technical means for the rapid development of globalization. The second reason is the economic foundation of globalization. Firstly, the market economy has become the preferred choice of promoting economy for every country in the world. Secondly, multinationals which are expanding continuously have become the center of economic globalization. Lastly, international economic organizations have been the organic safeguards for the development of economic globalization. (104 words)五、The past several years have witnessed a phenomenon that a variety of promises have been arising from all walks of life. Regretfully, quite a lot of promises are sheer nonsense, just as the hen in the given cartoon commits herself to lay eggs which are round without any angles and corners and have shells, egg whites and yolks.Odd and funny as they sound, such false promises can be seen and heard everywhere in our country. Administration departments assure to perform their tasks effectively and fairly without taking any bribes; manufacturing units guarantee to turn out products of good quality; commercial enterprises swear to provide genuine commodities and polite and enthusiastic services. Can you find anything new and substantial other than their obligations, duties and jobs in these so called promises? I guess your answer will be negative. As a matter of fact, their intention to make such commitments is nothing but to put on civilized outer clothing to please or deceive the public.I dare say that our society is suffering corruption and cheat which are causing damage to society both materially and morally. But the hen and her like should know that by dishonest words no one can survive the intense competition under marketeconomy system. They should remember the old saying, “Honesty is the best policy”.六、As is shown in the picture, on arriving at the finishing line of a race on the playground, the lovely young man has to continue his new journey in no time instead of stopping to take a rest. He has successfully settled the puzzle of “stopping or going on” which might have confused many others. With the increasing pace of modern life, perhaps no change has characterized the past decade more dramatically than that of people's view on their own life. It is generally agreed upon that people have to adjust themselves to this new change. On the one hand, no doubt, people will gain a lot by setting new goals in their daily life. Take the famous scientist Thomas Edison for example. He had done very well in his early life, but continued to pursue something more difficult all through his life. On the other hand, if one is obsessed with the success he has achieved, he would lose the chance to pursue new success. What is more, he may become the slave of his success. There are many cases showing that people lose their courage to better themselves afterbecoming successful. To sum up, one's view on his success determines his future. In my opinion, it is necessary to carry out a nation-wide campaign publicizing people who have a burning desire for more and ever greater achievement when they are already well-known. So that people in the society will develop a forward-looking attitude and make their life worth living and the world more beautiful as well.七、As is shown in the picture, on arriving at the finishing line of a race on the playground, the lovely young man has to continue his new journey in no time instead of stopping to take a rest. Obviously, it is teamwork that makes it possible for them to go anywhere they want to.Simple as it is, what the picture conveys to us is thought-provoking. With the development of economy and society, competition is increasingly fierce. It is impossible for anyone to finish a work all by himself. Hence, people in mounting numbers put great emphasis on teamwork. In fact, it has been universally acknowledged that the ability of teamwork is the most essential qualification that anyone who wants to achieve success should possess.Accordingly, it is imperative for us to take some measures to enhance the sense of teamwork in our society. We should bear in mind that teamwork is of great significance to both our society and ourselves. Every one should have the ability of teamwork. Only in this way can we achieve success and only in this way can our society become more harmonious to live in.九、From the information given in the above column chart, we can see a striking contrast in mobile-phone subscriptions between developing and developed countries from 2000 to 2008. During this period, there has been a dramatic increase from 0.4 to 4billion mobile phone subscriptions in developing countries, while that of developed countries remained steady under 1 billion during the decade. At least two fundamental factors could contribute to this phenomenon. On the one hand, with the rapid increase in economy happening in the developing countries, the telecommunication industry in those countries got a great bound to meet the demand of globalization. As a result, the user of mobile phone which can narrow the distance between people and link the whole world together rose at an incredible speed. On the other hand, the extremely advanced civilization of developed countries means less potential in many aspects including in the area of private telecommunication tools and their demand for further enlargement of such tools tend to saturation. In conclusion, while mobile phones subscriptions, if used carelessly or without restraint, could prove to be a double-edged sword, the fact remains that it is already extremely prevalent in both developing and developed countries and even today, continue rise in popularity. Given the levels of intelligence, prudence and discretion imbued in people, I am sure that most of them will be able to sidestep the potential drawbacks of mobile phones, while taking advantage of all its merits.十、As is subtly revealed in the cartoons above, global warming is a real threat to our world. In the first drawing, the glaciers in the polar region are rapidly melting owing to global warming. In the second picture, a homeless polar bear is staying on an isolated big block of ice.The purpose of these portrayals is to show us that global warming is a looming threat to people all over the world. To begin with, global warming leads to the rise of sea levels. Large sections Chinese coastal regions would gradually disappear under rising sea levels because of global warming, severely impairing the country’s social and economic progress. China’s long coastline is the base for about 70% of the large cities, over half of the domestic population and nearly 60% of the national economy. With comparatively-advanced social, economic and cultural developments, China’s off-shore regions will suffer great losses if the sea level does not cease rising. In addition, global warming increases the possibility and intensity of extreme weather such as hurricanes and snowstorms. Hurricanes and typhoons have become stronger and longer-lasting over the past 30 years. These upswings correlate with a rise in sea surface temperatures due to global warming.Taking into account the devastating effects of global warming, we can draw the conclusion that global warming is a great threat to our world. Facing the growing menace of global warming, more scientific and active preventive measures should be taken on a larger scale to change for the better.。
With the development of China’s national economy, people increasing numbers can enjoy the luxury of owning a private car---if he or she can afford it. However, the increase in the number of cars brings about a lot of problems, such as air pollution, noise, traffic congestion and gas shortage, as is vividly depicted in the picture. Many residents are against owning cars. According to them, a number of factors could account for the decision to limit the numbers of cars. To begin with, there is no denying that automobiles are indications of civilization, progress and development; nevertheless, automobiles cause the serious problem of air pollution. Scientists have warned that unless effective measures are taken, the problem of pollution will eventually get out of hand.Secondly, private cars can be a terrible threat to the already heavy traffic in the city. If more cars are allowed onto busy streets, there will be more traffic jams, which is really a public hazard to all of us. What’s more, they create a lot of noise and traffic accidents which disable or kill many people each year. Finally, cars consume a large amount of fuel. Though China is rich in its oil resources, they are running out rapidly. To better solve such problems, concerted efforts from both government and the individuals are needed. The government should improve road conditions to reduce traffic jam. It should also set up rules to promote the use of lead-free gasoline and to develop modern public transportation systems. Meanwhile, the individuals should maintain good road manners. If the sense of responsibility is greatly aroused, we will eventually find satisfactory solutions to the problems caused by them.Nowadays there is a tendency of seeking for people with high-tech skills throughout the world. An encouraging and promising scene is witnessed by the photographer of this picture:Shengzhou ⅦSpacecraft is launching successfully, which sets China in a high position of aviation and space flight, with the approach of the new century, high technology plays an ever more important part in this modern information age.Obviously, lack of people with high-tech skills will definitely hold back the development of our economy. As it is well known many of our factories and enterprises have got to close down in face of fierce competition with a lot of workers being laid off. The apparent reason is that we are less competitive. In some places, arduously as the managers and workers work, their efficiency and profit still remain at a low level. It is high technology that can help them improve their present situation. We are a developing country with large rural areas and a similar large less educated population. To get rid of poverty is to raise the educational level of its people. Apart from these, there are other consequences due to the lack of people with high-tech skills. It is high time we took positive and efficient actions in terms of attracting or training more personnel with high-tech skills. Primarily speaking, related policies should be mapped out. Education should be on the top of the list, raising the national educational level is our first and foremost task. Another priority is to attract talents both from abroad and at home. The more talents and personnel with high-tech skills we have, the more assurance for the sustainable development our country will possess. As is described in the picture above, we can see clearly that college students find it more and more difficult to find a job. It seems discouraging since college students are acknowledged as the young elite of society. They have received advanced education. They are intelligent, aspirant and eager to demonstrate their ability and to do their best for society. However, job hunting has been a headache for college graduates, and therefore, this strange phenomenon should be taken into further consideration. Why do college graduates find it increasingly difficult to get jobs? The causes of this phenomenon are various. On the one hand, college students are likely to pursue too high a goal. They care about many factors before making a decision, such as the working conditions, the salary, the working site, etc. As a result, though there are many vacant jobs waiting for the college students, they find few are satisfactory. The comparatively limited majors some students study in college do not fit in with the demands of the job market, and they themselves are unwilling to make an adjustment. On the other hand, employers tend to be strict or even particular to select their employees, which is also a factor responsible for the difficulties in job-hunting since there are so many college students hunting for jobs each year. The problem should be solved in effective ways. For one thing, the gap between the job’s demands and college student’s demand must be shortened. For another, the employers have the obligation to offer favorable conditions for college students, while the latter should broaden their view and adjust themselves to the needs of society. There is no doubt that human activity has an effect on the planet. We see the evidence of mankind’s endeavors all around us. Overall, it seems that human activity harms the Earth more than it benefits it. As is vividly betrayed in the photo above, due to over-development, there is limited land being set aside for endangered animals.Absolutely, we should reserve some land for the world’s animals for the following reasons. First, mankind’s need for land is constantly growing. If the demand is not checked in some way, humans will eventually develop all of the earth’s available land. At that time, mankind will have no more room to grow, and all the wild animals will have disappeared, as well as other valuable resources.Second, humans are able to innovate and can use the land that they already possess in more efficient ways. Animals are unable to do this. Once their land is taken away from them they will die. Third and last, endangered animals are an important part of the biodiversity of our planet. If they disappear, we cannot predict what the effect will be. Therefore, we should treat such animals as a valuable resource to be protected. To sum up, the world’s endangered animal are an important resource and we should protect them by setting aside some land for them. Although mankind’s need for land continues to grow, people are intelligent and inventive enough to put the land into use properly. In this way,we can have enough land for farming, housing and industry, and preserve the biodiversity of the planet at the same time. The picture describes the scene of a young lady choosing some books at the book store. Undoubted, she is busy recharging herself with knowledge and keen on learning anything new. Interesting as it is, the drawing conveys a common phenomenon in modern society. There are ample reasons for the craze of people’s recharge with knowledge. First of all, the development of our society demands recharge. We are living in an era of knowledge explosion. To be exact, if we want to survive in the information era, we have to recharge ourselves with up-to-date knowledge so as to keep up with the pace of our society. What’s more, the requirement of our society demands recharge. At present, talents of multi-abilities are most welcome in the job market. Recharge has become a vogue. Last but not least important, personal advancement demands recharge. To get relevant promotion, people must take exams of various kinds and get certificates and diplomas. Thus, recharge has become our life-long work. In sum, owning to social and personal factors, recharge has become an indispensable part of our life.Accordingly, measures should be taken to encourage the recharge craze. To begin with, systematic and reasonable training should be planned and provided. In addition, more favorable study environment should be created. It is in this way that we can soon embrace the spring of science and a harmonious society. The intended meaning of the photo above is pressing and far-reaching. In this picture, we are astonished to see that the doctor only shows a great attention over the vast interest from the poor patient while ignoring the state of illness. The drawer reminds us of a common and serious social phenomenon: doctors often prescribe medicine or treatments that are not needed, merely in order to make money. Whereas a hospital was once a place that people went for comfort and healing, people nowadays approach hospitals with a fear of being cheated. Furthermore, given that patients know little about medicine, they often have no choice but to listen to their doctor’s erroneous advice. Just imagine how great the world would be if doctors would only exhibit greater concern for the patients.Like many people, I am deeply frustrated by this situation.I am angry that some patients are taken advantage of by doctors, and I feel sadly for the honest doctors whose reputations are tarnished by the actions of a few bad apples. In order to solve this difficult issue, we must look carefully at the current structure of our medical system, and take appropriate measures to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.As is vividly betrayed in the drawing above, people are striving for the tremendous increase of GDP (gross domestic product) at the cost of our environment. Undoubtedly, the drawings aim at revealing a common and serious fact that due to severe pollution, human life is being threatened, which is worth discussing among general public for the time being.Currently, the phenomenon commonly appears in our daily life. To begin with, it is high time that we realized the fact that our living environment and some natural resources are being destroyed in the blind pursue of GDP increase. At present, the ecology of our planet can hardly support the continuous expansion of heavy-polluting, high-consuming and low-profit production pattern. What’s more, it is quite necessary that we have an objective understanding of the relationship between GDP increase and the ecological environment. The GDP increase which is achieved at the cost of sacrificing human living environment and destroying our valuable natural resources (some of the resources are not renewable) is meaningless at all. To sum up, the blind craze for GDP increase must be stopped. In my view, counter-measures should be taken to reverse the grim situation. On the one hand, relevant laws and regulations must be set up by government to ensure a rational balance between GDP increase and our living environment. On the other hand, a public education campaign should be launched to make people have a good knowledge of green GDP. Only in these ways can we have a sustainable development and a harmonious society.。

When we encounter trials, it is always important for an enterprising mind to remember that hope remains, and that smiling is the best policy! In science, for instance, not a single great discovery has been made without overcoming numerous setbacks and failures. Madam Curie spent over twentyyears fighting through failures and frustrations. If she had given up even once, she would not have discovered Radium. This is the same with other great innovators! Never tire, never yield, and never give up! When one encounters hardship, remember what they say: “when God shuts a door, he will also open a window for you.” Life is full of ups and downs, and optimism, rather than pessimism, is the best policy.2011Directions:Write an essay of 160---200 words based on the following drawing. In your essay, you should1) Describe the drawing briefly.2) Explain it’s intended meaning, and3) Give your comments.Your should write neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (20 points)What an impressive picture it is!Two young men sitting on a boat are throwing rubbish into a lake, with all kinds of garbage floating on the surface. What is conveyed in the picture is both realistic and thought-provoking.Clearly,the intent of the picture is to communicate to a viewer that with rapid economic development, the environment is being tremendously polluted despite the fact that tourism brings China many benefits. In public places, people have no awareness that their actions can damage the environment, the only environment we have. They can often cause inconvenience and discomfort to other tourists, and also degrade China's image as a nation. What can we do about this situation?First,I think that the government should enact more severe regulations, punishing any behavior that damages the environment. Second, the government should make the public more aware of environment protection. People should know how closely the environment is related to their personal lives. Let's hope we will have a cleaner and more beautiful world in the near future.2010Write an essay of 160-200 words based on the following drawing. In your essay, youshould1) Describe the drawing briefly,2) Explain its intended meaning, and3) Give your comments. You should write neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (20 points)Write an essay of 160-200 words based on the following drawing. In your essay, you should1) Describe the drawing briefly,2) Explain its intended meaning, and3) Give your comments. You should write neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (20 points)Concerns about multicultural issues have been brought up recently in the general public, and even experts and scholars in academic circles. Just as what is described by the cartoon, a huge hot pot contains quite a large variety of “ingredients:” Chinese Kung-fu, Post-modernization, the Peking Opera, Enlightenment, Lao She (a famous Chinese writer),Shakespeare, and so on. These “ingredients”—whether modern or ancient, at home or abroad—obviously symbolize the various kinds of cultures which we can “taste”anywhere and at anytime. This social phenomenon illustrated by the cartoon is obviously depicting the result of globalization and China’s policy of opening up to the outside world. Now almost everyone in this world, in a sense, is exposed to a huge amount of information, including various cultures in different nations. According to a recent survey made by NOB, a polling organization in Shanghai, about 92% of foreigners in China say that they love traditional Chinese culture and that 84% of young people, especially those in colleges and universities, say that they celebrate Christmas and Valentine’s Day, both impo rtant Western holidays. These trends lead to convincing views that globalization can promote cultural exchange. We are lucky to live in this diverse world of innumerable cultures, just like the cultural “hot pot.”Accordingly, we may predict that with the further development of society, the blending of various cultures will become even more obvious. And as global villagers, we can enjoy more access to the world’s diverse cultures in the near future.2009In your essay, you should1) describe the drawing briefly,2) explain its intended meaning, and then3) give your comments. You should write neatly on ANSHWER SHEET 2. (20 points)As is vividly depicted in the drawing provided, many people are sitting in front of computers and in narrow spaces, exchanging their views with each other through the internet. The drawing is impressive in its ability to describe people‟s addiction to the internet. The artist‟s intention is self-evident and the meaning is quite thought-provoking.It seems true that the cartoon is indicative of a pervasive societal problem with regard to the internet. I ts great impacts and benefits can‟t be overstated. It is the internet that causes our big world to become a global village. However, as a growing number of individuals have become addicted to using the internet, many have forgotten all about real life, and the important aspects of society they are neglecting. As a consequence, many close their doors and remain indoors after they return home from work, and are reluctant to have any face-to-face connections unless done with other folks online. What‟s worse, t hese types of people often become indifferent to their friends, neighbors, and even relatives. This phenomenon is harmful to us and our community alike. As the pressure in life and work increases, we should learn to find proper ways to relieve it. It‟s ti me that we took some measures to improve the situation: people can be organized to hold activities together to develop social and constructive hobbies. Consequently, we must make full use of the internet to enable us to make our daily lives both joyful and meaningful.2008Directions:Write an essay of 160~200 words based on the following drawing. In your essay, you should1) describe the drawing briefly,2) explain its intended meaning, and then3) give your comments. You should write neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (20 points)The picture presents a touching sight to us. Two handicapped men are walking quite quickly by binding their disabled legs together and holding fast to each other‟s shoulders, crutches unused and left behind. They deserve our total respect! They have overcome their own physical deficiencies and ingeniously devised a smoother and easier way of moving by drawing strength and support from each other. This is the definition of the word …cooperation.‟In modern times, cooperation has become an efficient and effective way to solve many problems. To begin with, cooperation can increase our strength so as to accomplish things that would be impossible with one person. We all have individual limitations, and with the fast development of science and technology we are facing a world that is growing ever more sophisticated. Therefore, we often need to combine abilities and resources to be competitive and gain success. What’s more, cooperation is not the simple addition of strength, but can be considered a fusion of all partners’strengths. Making use of different members’ strengths - and thereby offsetting each one‟s weaknesses - and by providing mutual support and sharing resources with each other, we can then attain a capacity that is much more than the sum of all the individuals‟ contributions. All in all, we will be able to more widely explore our world, and reach further than is possible as individuals, by cooperation with each other.2007Directions:Write an essay of 160~200 words based on the following drawing. In your essay, you should1) describe the drawing briefly,2) explain its intended meaning, and then3) support your view with an example/examples.You should write neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2. (20 points)Here is a picture of a football match in which a goalkeeper is defending his team‟s goal, while an opposing player is trying to kick the ball into it. The goalkeeper must be thinking “This goal seems so wide! How can I defend it?” while the opposing player is probably thinking the exact opposite: “The goalkeeper is so big! How can I possibly kick it in?”Obviously, as is shown in the cartoon, neither of them have very much confidence, and if you don‟t have confidence, how can you expect to achieve your li fe goals?! Losing one‟s self-confidence before undertaking tasks not only affects your thoughts but also does harm to the actions you will take. For example, when I was in middle school, our school basketball team once played against another team from a very famous in our city, and everyone on our team felt that the only possible outcome of the competition was a loss for our team. As a result, we didn‟t even make any specific preparations for the game beforehand. Of course, the result was a total loss. One year later, we met the same team again in a match. This time, our coach inspired us with a rousing speech that filled us with confidence and hope. We then made a detailed plan and practiced relentlessly before the game, and in the end we actually won. Our conclusion was that “Confidence is the first step to success!”2006Directions:Study the following photos carefully and write an essay in which you should1. describe the photos briefly,2. interpret the social phenomenon reflected by them,3. give your point of view. You should write 160~200 words neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2.(20 points)The photos show two big fans of David Beckham, the British football star. One has written the star‟s name on his face, while the other has had his hair made up in typ ical Beckham style. From them, we can vividly sense the enthusiasm of athletic hero worship, which is an ever more ordinary phenomenon in modern spectator sport society. As a matter of fact, with mass media and globalism fast developing, this type of hero worship has an increasingly larger scope. People from all walks of life, regardless of their background in success or popularity, may be admired and followed by others.Hero worship like this is not absolutely right or wrong. It depends on what the worshipper does to follow or lionize his idol. If handled appropriately, hero worship may inspire and drive us, increasing our passion for life, motivation for work and even heighten our noblest values. Learning from our idols, we can gain enlightenment, encouragement and the qualities useful in striving for a career. By loving and following them, we can add color to our lives and explore a larger range of social experiences. But as everything has its limits, hero worship will bring adverse effects to our lives if we go beyond proper control. If we over-indulge in the worship of our athletic idols, we may lose touch with ourselves and lose our way; what will be the meaning of our personal lives be then? Therefore, the key lies in whether we can maintain our independence and individuality through balancing our perspective and passion toward our idols. It is up to us to live in the shadow or the sunshine of the heroes we admire.2005Directions:Write an essay of 160-200 words based on the following drawing. In your essay, you should first describe the drawing the interpret its meaning, and give your comment on it.You should write neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2.(20 points)The picture symbolically depicts how three sons and a daughter treat their old, helpless father. Each child stands in a different corner of a football field, in the middle of which is the old man, who is crouching. The eldest son kicks the father out and the other children are likewise prepared to ward him off. It is sad to see that none of the old man‟s children are willing to receive their father. The picture is thought provoking, and illustrates a common phenomenon in today‟s society: many grown children refuse to support their aging parents. They regard them as a burden even though it is a culturally-expected duty to support parents when they grow old. I think these children have betrayed their own consciences, and therefore may be subjected to social contempt and criticism. It is no doubt that this phenomenon is becoming more and more common in modern society, but it is not a good trend for young people to follow. Most parents devote all their lives to raise their children and support them through schooling and life until they are independent adults. They give their children everything they have because of their love and hope for their futures. It is against nature for us to shirk the responsibility of caring for our parents when they are old. Rather, we have the duty to pay back their love by making their later years comfortable, enjoyable and happy.2004Directions:Study the following drawing carefully and write an essay in which you should1) describe the drawing,2) interpret its meaning and3) support your view with examples. You should write about 200 words neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2.(20 points)In the picture presented to us, we can observe a boy running on an annular track and reaching the finish line. Despite sweating heavily because of his exertions, a happy smile hangs on his lips. However, as an arrow marked “End” points to the finishing line, there is also another arrow marked “Beginning.”Though this picture only displays a runner who is going to start a new run after reaching the finish line, yet it also demonstrates a universal law that governs the development of mankind. In other words, if we want to make constant progress we must keep forging ahead instead of pausing and resting on our laurels. Robertson once said, “Whenever he is satisfied with what he does, he has reached his culminating point—he will progress no more.”This reminds me of Picasso, whose artistic contributions greatly influenced the path of 20th Century art. But what has impressed me most is not the many successes he achieved but his enterprising spirit. Besides being “the greatest artist of the 20th Centu ry,” he was also acclaimed as “the youngest artist in the world” because he unremittingly pursued and explored new styles of painting all his life, well into his old age. After producing his most famous post-impressionist style, he later developed many other styles and even at the last moment of his life continued to produce new paintings.2003Directions:Study the following set of drawings carefully and write an essay in which you should1) describe the set of drawings, interpret its meaning, and2) point out its implications in our life. You should write about 200 words neatly on ANSWER SHEET 2.(20 points)The above two pictures draw a sharp contrast with each other. In one picture, a flowergrows in a greenhouse and is in full bloom despite the heavy rain outside. But in the other, the flower is outside and, is withering in the thunderstorm without the protection of the greenhouse. The two pictures show us that a flower raised in a greenhouse and carefully protected cannot withstand natural wind and rain.It is most likely that the artist means to compare children in our country to the flowers in his drawings, reflecting a problem in the present state of education of our children. For one thing, most children are brought up by their parents with tender care nowadays. Parents always try their best to meet their children‟s needs, providing them with the best environments for growth and study, and protecting them from all possible injuries, setbacks and sufferings. For another, owing to China‟s current examination-oriented education system, most children are too heavily burdened with studies to have time to take part in social activities, and so have little contact with society and the real world outside their family and school. Growing up in such a manner and environment, children will inevitably and naturally lack the ability to withstand hardships and trials and overcome obstacles when they leave their parents and step into the society. In sum, the problem with our children‟s education must be solved in a timely and effective manner because it is they that constitute the young future of our country.。
