Unit 5 Why do you like pandas?

Section B (2a-2c)

一、教材分析

本节课的教学内容是人教版Go for it 七年级下册Unit 5 Why do you like pandas? 在整个初中3年的学习中,多个单元与本单元所涉及的语言知识相关联,如七年级上册Unit6 Do you like bananas? 和 unit 9 My favorite subject is science.为相关话题单元,为本单元提供了话题和语法知识的支持。本单元涉及中考24个话题中的第22个话题:自然。Talk about animals是中考中常见的话题;涉及11个日常交际用语中第2个关于态度的表达中的talk about preference,所以学好本单元会为以后的学习打下基础。

二、Teaching Key Points(教学重点):

1. Vocabularies: flag, symbol, water, kill, ivory, cut, save, Thailand, be in great danger, cut down, get lost, one of, be made of.

2. Reading skills.

3. Cultural awareness(文化意识):

通过图片了解大象在泰国的相关文化和大象的现实处境,唤起学生珍惜并保护濒危动物的意识。

1. Using the target language to describe animals.

2. How to sum up the main ideas of each paragraph.

展开各种任务活动,引导学生同步阅读,增强其运用语言获取更多信息的能力。

六、Teaching Methods(教学设计):

Step1 Warm-up

1.Duty report.

2. Show the students a picture of a zoo and the animals in it. Ask: What’s this? (It’s a map.) What kind of map is it? Is it a map of a zoo? Have you ever been to the zoo? What can you see in the zoo? What kind of animals do you know?OK. Next let’s listen to some sounds of animals. And you should try to guess what kind of animals it is. (such as tiger, elephant…) You are smart! I believe you can make it. After that, point to the screen, saying: Do you like animals? What animals do you like? Why? Ask the students individually.

Step2 Lead-in & Presentation

1. Do you want to know what animals I like? Then give the students some information about the animals. Guide them to guess it (elephants). At the same time, draw the stick figure of the elephant. Say: I like elephants very much because they are very smart. Ask: Why do people think elephants are smart? What can they do? Show some pictures to teach some useful sentences.

2. Elephants are not only smart but also very important in many countries. Let’s look at the big screen. Then show some pictures of buildings in Thailand. Guide students to guess which country it is (Thailand). Introduce some culture about elephants in Thailand——There was a white elephant on the first flag of Thailand. What’s more, the elephant is one of Thailand’s symbols. And March 13th is Thai Elephant Day.(Practice the new words.)

Step3 Reading

1. Fast reading

T: Now we know something about elephants, next we will learn an article to know more about the elephants. Open your books and turn to Page 29. Look at Activity 2b, read the article quickly and find the answer to this question:

What is the best title for the article? (Let’s Save the Elephants.)

2. Careful reading

Let’s read the article one paragraph after another carefully and find out the topic sentence which can tell us the main idea of each paragraph. After that, tell them the reading strategy.

Para 1--Elephants are very important in Thailand.

Para 2--Elephants are smart animals.

Para 3--Elephants are in great danger.

Step 4 2c

1. Tell students to look at the mind map in 2c. There are four boxes around the word "Elephant". The first box is about the importance of the elephants in Thailand. The second box is about the abilities of the elephants. The third box is about the facts and figures of the elephants. The last box is about how to save the elephants. Let's read the article again and fill in the blanks.

2. Check the answers with the class.

Step 5 Retelling the article

1. You are smart, but do you have a good memory? Next, I will ask you to retell the article according to the mind map in 2c. Then give them an example. Do you know how to do it?

( Students answer together)

2. Read the article the whole class.

Step7 Summary

In this class, we have learnt some new words and new phrases, please remember them. We also learned an article about how to protect the animals.

Step 6 2a Thinking

As we all know, elephants are in great danger. One reason is that people cut down too many trees so they are losing their homes. However, many other animals in the world are in danger, too. Look at the screen. Show them some pictures. Say: How do you feel about the pictures? Are you happy? Why or Why not? Then tell them the reasons. (I think the danger is from human beings. People cut
