13、Being safe in your everyday life needs knowledge. If you remember the following information, your life will be much safer.

●If you are followed by someone you don't know, cross the street and go to the other way, let the person understand that you know he or she is after you. Next, don't go home at once. You are safer in the street than you are alone in your home or in a lift (电梯).

14、My kids and I were heading into the supermarket over the weekend. On the way, we saw a man holding a piece of paper that said, “Lost my job. Family to feed.”
At this store, a scene like this is not normal. My 10-year-old son noticed him and made a comment(评论) on how bad it must be to have to stand outside in the cold wind.
In the store, I asked each of my kids to pick something they thought our “friend” there would like. They got apples, a sandwich and a bottle of juice. Then my 17-year-old son suggested giving him a gift card. I thought about it. We didn’t have much money ourselves, but … well, sometimes giving from our need instead of our abundance(充裕) is just what we need to do! All the kids declared(宣称) something they could do away with for the week.
When we handed him the bag of food, he lit up and thanked us with wet eyes. When I handed him the gift card, saying he could use it for whatever his family might need, his eyes were filled with tears.
This has been a wonderful experience for our family. For days the kids have been looking for others we can help! Things would have played out so differently if I had simply said, “No, we really don’t have money to give more.” Stepping out not only helped a brother in need, it also gave my kids the sweet taste of helping others. It’ll go a long way with them. 1.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.giving him some food B.giving from our need
C.giving him a postcard D.giving from our abundance
2.Which is the right order of what happened in the story?
a. The man was thankful with tears.
b. Each child picked some food for the man in the store.
c. A poor man lost his job and asked people for help.
d. All kids did away with something and gave him a gift card.
e. They saw the poor man outside the supermarket and took pity on him.
A.c-e-d-b-a B.c-e-b-d-a C.e-c-d-b-a D.e-c-b-d-a
3.What can we infer(推测) from the last paragraph?
A.They will try their best to help more people in the future.
B.They won’t help more people because they can't afford to do so.
C.They had helped many people before offering this poor man help.
D.If mother had said NO, the kids would have helped in a different way

18、 A dragonfly, only an inch and a half long, appears to be animal world's best long distance travelerflying thousands of miles overoceans as it moves from continent to continent----- according to a newly published research.Biologists who lead the study say the evidence is in the genes. They found that populations of this
dragonfly, called Pantala flavescens, in Texas, eastern Canada, Japan, Korea, India, and South America, have genes
so similar that there is only one likely explanation. Obviously these dragonflies are traveling distances that are quite long for their small size, breeding with each other, and creating a common gene pool. But how do dragonflies from different continents manage to meet and breed? Ware says it appears to be the way their bodies have evolved. For example, they increased surface areas on their wings that enable them to use the wind to carry them.
Dragonflies, in fact, have already been found crossing the Indian Ocean from Asia to Africa. "They are following the weather," says Daniel Troast. "They're going from India where it's dry season to Africa where it's wet season, and they do it once a year.”
Wetness is important for Pantala, and that is why they would take such a dangerous trip. Though many will
die on the route, as long as enough make it, the species survives. For the moment, the details of this wonderful
insect trip are an educated best guess. Much more work is needed to be done. Ware and Troast hope that
scientists can work on figuring out those routes.
1.What shows Pantala flavescens are the world’s longest-distance flyers?
A.Scientists have recorded the dragonfly across the world.
B.The same dragonfly was found both in Asia and America.
C.There are many Pantala flavescens in different continents.
D.Pantala fiavescens in different continents have similar genes.
2.What may help Pantala flavescens fly over so long distance?
A.Their special body shape. B.Their special and strong wings.
C.Their small and light body. D.Their strong sense of direction.
3.What is necessary for Pantala flavescens to breed?
A.Wet weather. B.Warm places. C.Dry environment. D.Enough sunshine.
4.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Scientists have found the details of the trip.
B.Dragonflies leave India because of the dry season.
C.Dragonflies can hardly survive after such a dangerous trip.
D.The dragonfly is animal world's best short distance traveler.

19、例文
Values reflect a person’s views of what’s right and wrong, as well as what’s important in one’s life. We teenagers are in the golden period of forming good values. We need adults’ right guidance. In my opinion, it’s extremely necessary for us to learn to be independent. Because we’ll leave our parents some day in the future. It’s impossible for us to depend on our parents forever. We can learn to do something new as well as making our own decisions. What’s more, it’s also important for us to learn to be helpful. Because helping others will make us feel happy. We should learn to help the people who are in trouble in our daily life. Only in this way can we form healthy values. What’s more, we’ll benefit from these healthy values all our life.。
