Commodity inspection is an activity which is closely related to both the exporter and the importer. It refers to the fact that both imports and exports are inspected to see that the ordered goods are the same as what the importer intends to buy. The seller, as well as the buyer, pays much attention to the inspection of goods. For the seller, it has much to do with his reputation. Whereas, for the buyer, he has to make sure whether his interests have been well protected or not.
If the inspection standards which must be complied with are specified by laws or administrative regulations, the inspection shall be performed according to the standards as specified by laws and administrative regulations.

Inspection on import and export commodities covers quality, quantity, weight, packing and the requirements for
safety and hygiene. The following are three various inspection standards.
In international trade, the quality, quantity and packing of the goods delivered by the seller should be in conformity with terms and conditions of sales contract. In this sense, inspection of commodity and the issuance of certificates of inspection are the necessary steps in a transaction.
Inspection must be made by the seller and the buyer themselves. However, probably, neither party is willing to have the goods inspected by the other party to judge whether the goods are in conformity with the stipulation in the sales contract. Therefore, for the purpose of identifyinghowing facts, inspection by authoritative inspection agencies and the certificates of inspection issued by them are usually required in the sales contract. The certificate of inspection is regarded as the basis of the delivery of the goods.
