Alida’s faithful dog panion Mr. Gibbs has been specially trained to shepherd the three-year-old, who breathes through a tube most of the time. He follows her closely as she plays in her family’s ten-acre land in Louisville, uses the slide or even rides her bike.
Alida was diagnosed(诊断)with neuroendocrine hyperplasia of infancy(NEHI神经内分泌增生)when she was just eight months old. Her rare condition has just eight hundred documented sufferers throughout the world, and causes diseased pieces of the lungs to filter (过滤)oxygen through extra layers(膜)of cells making it hard or almost impossible to breathe.
For Alida and her parents, it meant that even a walk in the park was very difficult because oxygen equipment was too heavy for the youngster to be able to carry herself. As parents they wanted to do something to help their daughter survive despite having a tube following her all the time. The couple found out about “service dogs” from a TV program a nd realized an animal trained to help the blind could be trained to help Alida. They finally found help in the shape of golden doodle—a retriever(寻回犬)crossed with a poodle-dog Mr. Gibbs. It has been two years since I published my first article on Yahoo Contributor Network.I was very excited when I saw that what I had written was published on the Internet.
I recognized that the content sites such as Associated Content can provide a fertile ground for learning how to bee a writer.I was thrifty(节俭的)—I could see that this was an open door for systematically(系统地)learning some basic writing skills without paying college tuition for classes, all to be finished at my own speed and without leaving the fort of my own home.
During these past few years I gained enough experience and understanding of using Associated Content to try writing.I found writing for that site was not my cup of tea. However, my experience there was positive as I was rewarded with even more learning opportunities just by giving it a try. Through Associated Content I was introduced to the world of blogs(博客). Writing for the content site Yahoo Contributor Network gives me a chance of trying creative writing—news, reviews and numerous lifestyle issues. And all of these topics are my own choices. Then there is an opportunity to meet other writers.Yahoo Contributor Network
has a wonderful in-house messaging system that allows its writers to municate easily with one another. Not all your tries are satisfactory and easy when you write for a content site, but the benefits are many if you try it.
My teacher once said,“If you don’t quit, you will win.” I have no desire to quit writing as I really enjoy it. My thanks go out to Associated content and yahoo Contributor Network for all my progress in writing! And to my fellow writers—thank you so much for your support and friendship.May we continue in our efforts of inspiration for many years to e!

When should people be made to retire? 55? 65? Should there be a pulsory age limit?
Many old people work well into their 70s and 80s, running families, countries or corporations. Other people, however, despite being fit and highly talented, are forced to retire in their fifties or even earlier because of the regulations of a pany or the nation. This essay will examine whether people should be allowed to continue working as long as they want or whether they should be encouraged to retire at a particular stage.
Some people think there are several arguments for allowing older people to continue working as long as they are able. First of all, older employees have an immense amount of knowledge and experience which can be lost to a business or organization if they are made to retire. A second point is that older employees are often extremely loyal employees and are more willing to carry out pany policies than younger less mitted staff. However, a more important point is regarding the attitudes in society to old people. To force someone to resign or retire at 60 indicates that the society does not value the input of these people and that effectively their useful life is over. Age is irrelevant to a working life, surely if older employees are told they cannot work after 60, this is age discrimination. That they bee old does not necessarily mean they are going to be sick. Old people could be more aware, experienced and mitted than some youngsters.
Others, however, think that allowing older people to work indefinitely(无限期地)is not a good policy. Age alone is no guarantee of ability. Old people are only ambitious workaholics who are too selfish and self-centered to believe that a younger person could do better. Actually, many younger employees have more experience or skills than older staff, who may have been stuck in one area or unit for most of their working lives. Having pulsory retirement allows new ideas in an organization. In addition, without age limits, however, many people would continue to work purely because they did not have any other plans or roles. A third point of view is that older people should be rewarded by society for their life’s labor by being given generous pensions and the freedom to enjoy their leisure. We now have youngsters who can’t find jobs
because old people are choosing not to retire. Old people are not retiring because this new generation of “old people” , thinking they will never die due to modern advances in medicine.
With many young people unemployed or frustrated in low-level positions, there are often calls to pulsorily retire older workers. However, this can affect the older individual’s freedom and right to work and can deprive(剥夺) society of valuable experience and insights. I feel that giving workers more flexibility and choice over their retirement age will benefit society and the individual.
32.What is the purpose of this passage?
A. To explain the pulsory age limit.
B. To discuss the retirement age.
C. To examine people’s working life.
D. To introduce a particular stage.
33.Which of the following is NOT a reason for allowing old people to continue working
according to the passage?
A. Their contribution should be valued.
B. Their experience should be made use of.
C. They can help the youngsters.
D. They are loyal employees.
34.It can be inferred in the fourth passage that ______.
A. The young people have more creative spirits
B. Modern advances in medicine make old people never die
C. Pensions and freedom are not given to the old now
D. Old people believe that a younger person could do better

Film or book, which do you prefer ?
Last week our class held a discussion about the two art and cultural expression forms. Nowadays, many literary works have been adapted into a movie, Some of us think that it is better to see the film than to read the book in the original. The reason is that it takes less time to understand the whole story. Besides, the film is usually more interesting, and it is easier to

follow. Some others have just the opposite opinion. They think that they can get more detailed information from the original. Meanwhile, the language in the book is possibly more lively and beautiful.
Personally, I agree with the second view. Actually I have more reasons for it. I think I can stay at home, reading quietly in a situation of my own, and what's more, I am able to better understand the author's ideas. In a word, to read the original work is better than to see the film based on it.
