Ⅰ.阅读理解
(2014·四川都江堰名校诊断模拟)As parents,we always want what is best for our children. But finding that balance between allowing them to spread their wings and become independent and keeping them safe seems to be becoming increasingly difficult. In the past few weeks there have been two cases in which teens have murdered younger children.
The truth is that we just don’t know,so how can we possibly let our children out of our sight?I know my son is capable of going to use the bathroom at a restaurant by himself, but I don’t know who else might be in that bathroom that could harm him.I know that he is capable of finding his way through the short wooded path at the park that is within yelling distance, but there is another access to the wooded area where someone could snatch him and take him out the other side before I would know it.Even when “all the other kids are doing it”as a mother my answer is “no”,because the whatifs are too great.
But we also can’t live in fear.At some point we will have to let them out of our sight or the sight of their teachers. When I think about 10yearold Jessica Ridgeway walking to school in Colorado and 12-year-old Autumn Pasquale riding her bike,I think that their parents must be devastated(不安的)that they allowed them out on their own,but I also think that by those ages I hope that my child will be able to do the same thing. They were old enough to do them, but they still were victims to the evil of their neighbors.
The world will never be rid of evil people. And it’s probably not even possible to say that it’s more evil now than it was when I was a kid.The news didn’t spread quite as far or as quickly as it does now with the Internet so people weren’t faced with stories about it every single day.I don’t know when will be the right time to let my son become more independent in this world. In the meantime,I will try to teach him how to protect himself w ithout trying to scare him into being afraid to leave the house.Life isn’t all good, and while I try to shield him from the evil in this world,it’s important that I also teach him about it so that he is well armed if something bad happens to him-which I pray never happens.

What is a dream?
For centuries, people have wondered about the strange places that they seem to visit in their sleep.1.________ However, they have been valued as necessary to a person’s health and happiness.
Historically people thought dreams contained messages from God.It was only in the twentieth century that people started to study dreams scientifically believing that they tell about a person’s character.2.________ He believed that dreams allow a person to express fantasies or fears, which would be socially unacceptable in real life.
The second theory to become popular was Carl Jung’s compensation theory.Jung,a former student of Freud, said that the purpose of a dream is not to hide something, but rather to communicate it to the dreamer.3.________ Thus, people who think too highly of themselves may dream about failing;those who think too little of themselves dream of being heroes.
Using more recent research,William Domhoff from the University of California found that dreaming is a mental skill that needs time to develop in humans.4.________ Until they reach age five, they can not express very well what their dreams are about.Once people become adults, there is little or no change in their dreams. The dreams of men and women differ. For instance, the characters that appear in the dreams of men are often other men,and often involve physical aggression.
The meaning of dreams continues to be difficult to understand.5.________ If you dream that a loved one is going to die,do not panic. The dream may have meaning, but it does not mean that your loved one is going to die.
A.Dreams make up for what is lacking in waking life.
B.However, people should not take their dreams as reality.
