Taking an afternoon nap could keep your brain sharp, a new study has said. Adults ages 60 and older who took afternoon naps showed signs of better mental ability compared to those who didn’t nap, according to a study published in General Psychiatry earlier this week.
Researchers analyzed napping habits in 2, 214 older Chinese people and measured their cognitive abilities using several cognitive tests. Participants took the Mini-Mental State Examination and theBeijingversion of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, both of which test for memory, language and other cognitive abilities. In every category listed in the study, nappers tested statistically higher on average compared to their non-napping counterparts.
Researchers did not gather data from people under 60, so a correlation cannot be drawn between napping and younger generations. The study also noted that there are conflicting studies about the benefits and risks of napping.
Sleeping behaviors can be affected by a multitude of factors, said Dr. David Neubauer, associate professor atJohnsHopkinsUniversity. “Daily routines, medication use and sleep disorders can all play a role in how frequently someone takes a nap.” he said.
Neubauer recommended taking a shorter “power nap” of up to 20 minutes to decrease the chances of transitioning into slow-wave sleep, which makes people feel groggy when they wake up. “Napping can be a healthy part of an older adult’s day”, Neubauer acknowledged, but make sure “sleepiness isn’t due to a treatable nighttime sleep disorder.” Older individuals who want to do all they can to preserve their cognitive functioning should put nighttime sleep first.
4. What is the best way to keep a better cognitive ability for the old?
A. Take a nap every day.
B. Take sleep disorder seriously.
C. Have a good sleep at night.
D. Do exercise regularly.
5. How did the researchers reach the conclusion?
A. By taking the examinations and assessment.
B. By analyzing napping habits and giving tests.
C. By measuring nappers’ ability and analyzing them.
D. By doing an experiment.
6. Which has NO effect on one’s sleeping behaviors?
A. Taking a nap.
B. Medicine treatment
C. Sleep problems
D. Everyday activities.
7. What can we know about “slow-wave sleep”?
A. It appears in short nap up to 20 minutes.
B. People should avoid it in their naps.
C. It is a healthy part of an elder’s day.
D. It was recommended by Neubauer.

Globally, people use roofs to dry out food, do their laundry and sleep. In Belfast, where we're based, there's a culture of enjoying looking down on the city from up high, because it's in a valley. But because we were a conflict area for a long time, many people didn't want to live, work or hang out in the city, and our roofs cape has been neglected.
Rooftop projects can be as big or as small as you want. They can be used as social or cultural spaces, for green or blue public facilities. But it's not just about commercial opportunities; it can be as simple as an individual turning his/her city balcony into a mini garden or vegetable patch. It's not just about doing it on a rooftop because it's “cool”.It's about giving up the deep-rooted thought that roofs are off limits and embracing their challenges as opportunities. That can make a huge difference. For instance, we're helping turn the rooftop car park of a city central shopping centre into an outdoor space for employees, due to restrictions they now face indoors because of COVID-19.
Using rooftops creatively allows us to cope with many of the challenges faced by cities today--be those environmental, social, technological, or cultural. At the moment,we're being forced to rethink how we use public spaces due to COVID-19. With lots of restrictions on enclosed areas, we should be acknowledging rooftops alternatives. For example,Rotterdam recently hosted a play that took place across its rooftops. Each roof lit up and hosted a different part of the drama, while residents sat and watched, listening to the action through headphones.
Are there any challenges? Rain is one. Also is health and safety. But there are creative and practical solutions to all the barriers we face. In fact, the challenges are what make rooftops so exciting----because they give you even more opportunities to be creative and solve problems. It is always a matter of trial and error.
8. What can we learn about rooftops in the first two paragraphs?
A. People enjoy getting together on rooftops.
B. People can use rooftops to their own advantage.
C. Rooftops are made good use of by locals in Belfast.
D. Rooftops projects were launched for commercial reasons.
9. How can rooftops benefit people in their life?
A. Rooftops can be adapted to car parks.
B. Rooftops help solve environmental problems.
C. Rooftops can provide space for work and play.
D. People can exchange their thoughts on rooftops.
10. What will be possibly mentioned after the last paragraph?
A. The new challenges of the future.
B. Reasons for building rooftop projects.
C. Exciting development of rooftop projects.
D. Solutions to the challenges we are facing now.
11. What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A. To introduce rooftop projects in Belfast.
B. To encourage people to start rooftop projects.
C. To analyze the current situation of rooftop projects.
D. To offer suggestions on long-term city development.
D

A new data analysis of two studies found that children whose parents considered them to be “overweight" tended to gain more weight over 10 years than children whose parents considered them “normal weight". Children whose parents label them as “overweight" had a negative self-perception about their bodies. They were engaged in more attempts to lose weight.___19___
The clear message from this study is that dieting is more likely to lead to weight gain, not weight loss, in both children and adults. Psychology researchers Eric Robinson and Angelina Sutin argue that the stigma of being labeled overweight as a child might actually gain weight in the future.
___20___For the study, children's height and weight were measured at age 4 or 5, and parents were asked to describe whether they thought the children were best described as underweight, normal weight, overweight or very overweight. When the children were 12 or 13, they used images to best depict what they perceived their bodies to look like and were asked whether or not they engaged in any dieting behavior.
