Father's Day in the United States is on the third Sunday of June. It celebrates the great contribution that fathers make to their children's lives. Many people send cards or give gifts to their fathers.
Day tradition in the first ten years of the 20th century. Another was a memorial service held in 1908 for a large group of men. They were killed in a mining accident in Monograph, West Virginia in December 1907 and many of them were fathers.
A woman called Sonora Smart Dodd was an important person in the establishment of Father's Day. Her father had to take care of six children by himself after the death of their mother. It was very hard for him at that time. Sonora was inspired by the work of Anna Jarvis, who had successfully brought about Mother's Day celebrations. Sonora felt that her father should be remembered for what he had done. The first time Father's Day was held in June was in 1910.Father's Day was officially recognized as a holiday in 1972 by President Nixon.

The last Thursday of November is Thanksgiving Day. It is a holiday in the U.S.A. Usually, family members and friends get together for a dinner. People sometimes drive their cars a long way for a family reunion(团聚). Many people also take Friday off and make it a long weekend holiday, because most Americans do not work on Saturdays and Sundays.
