My School
Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm a 5th grader at Oakwood Elementary School. I absolutely love my school and I'm so excited to tell you all about it!
Our school building is pretty big with two floors and lots of classrooms, but it never feels crowded or overwhelming. The outside is made of red bricks and has huge windows that let in lots of natural light. We have a big playground in the back with swings, monkey bars, and even a basketball court. During recess, that's where you'll find most of us running around and playing games like tag or four square.
One of my favorite things about Oakwood is our awesome library. It's like a magical wonderland filled with so many books on every topic you can imagine! The librarian, Mrs. Roberts, is so friendly and always has great recommendations for new books to read. Sometimes she even does special readings or activities in the library during our free period. I could spend hours just
wandering around looking at all the different book covers and smelling that wonderful old book smell.
All of our classrooms are really nice too. The desks are grouped together in clusters so we can easily work together on projects and activities. Each one has a SMART board at the front instead of those old chalkboards. The SMART boards are like giant touchscreen computers that our teachers use for multimedia lessons and letting us interact with the material. My favorite part is when we get to use the SMART board tools to draw illustrations or take notes right on the board. So fun!
Another great thing about Oakwood is how many fun after-school activities and clubs we have to choose from. I'm in the art club, science club, and Math Olympiad team. I love art club because I'm a really creative person and Mrs. Baker teaches us all sorts of cool techniques like watercolors, sculpting, and even animation. In science club, we do lots of hands-on experiments and learn about things like chemistry, biology, astronomy, you name it! Math Olympiad team helps students like me who are really interested in mathematics prepare for competitions by solving challenging word problems and brain teasers. I've made lots of new friends by being involved in these clubs.
I also have to mention our great teachers at Oakwood. They really go above and beyond to make learning fun and engaging for us students. My homeroom teacher, Mr. Garcia, is so enthusiastic and caring. He's always coming up with creative lesson plans and projects to make things like reading, writing, and arithmetic a lot more interactive. We even put on plays and do science experiments frequently. My math teacher, Mrs. Khan, is super smart and bundles of energy. She uses a lot of math games and competitions to help us really grasp the concepts we're learning instead of just lecturing at us. All the teachers here make an effort to really get to know each student individually.
Oakwood also has a strong focus on important values like respect, integrity, and kindness. We have a big anti-bullying policy, and lessons on things like empathy and embracing diversity are woven into our curriculum. Our principal, Mrs. Ellison, started a "Caught Being Kind" program where kids are recognized for doing good deeds or helping others out. Once a month, we have a big school pride rally where students get awarded for their accomplishments, athletics teams perform, and we celebrate what makes Oakwood so special.
Overall, I really lucked out getting to attend such an incredible elementary school. I know I'll look back so fondly on
all the amazing memories I've made and things I've learned here. Oakwood isn't just a place to get an education - it's where I've made lifelong friendships, discovered passions, and really started to become my own person. It's a nurturing, enriching environment that's giving me the best possible foundation for future success. I'm equal parts excited and sad to eventually move on to middle school, because this place will always hold such a special place in my heart. Go Oakwood Owls!

My School
By A 5th Grade Student
My school is the best place ever! It's a big building with lots of classrooms, a cafeteria, a gym, and even a library. There are so many fun things to do and learn every day.
Let me tell you about my favorite parts. The playground is awesome! We have swings, slides, monkey bars, and a huge field to run around on during recess. Sometimes we play kickball or tag. My friends and I have running races to see who is the fastest. I'm pretty quick but Sammy always beats me.
Then there are my classes. Math is kind of hard but I like working out the problems. Reading is my favorite subject. We just started a new book called "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" and it's really exciting so far. In science, we get to do a lot of cool experiments like making volcanos erupt with baking soda and vinegar. So much fun!
The cafeteria has decent food. The pizza is actually pretty good but the brussels sprouts are totally gross. My mom packs my lunch most days though because I'm a picky eater. I like PB&J sandwiches, carrot sticks, an apple, and a cookie or chips.
There are lots of after-school activities too. I take art class where we get to paint, draw, and make pottery. I'm in the coding club and we're learning how to program robots. And I just joined the drama club so I can try out for the school play next year. I'd love to be the lead role!
Overall, I feel really lucky to go to such an amazing school. We have the best teachers who make learning fun. They truly care about every student. We go on neat field trips every year too. Like last month we went to the science museum and saw dinosaur fossils and a planetarium show. So cool!
My favorite part of the day is hanging out with my friends at recess and lunch. We have a good group and they always make
me laugh with their funny jokes and games. Jenna is probably my closest friend. We've known each other since kindergarten and we're total besties. I can tell her anything.
When I'm not at school, I really miss it! Weekends and holidays are fun but I get pretty bored after a couple days. I just can't wait to go back and see everyone again. School is where I learn and grow so much. I know I'm getting a great education that will prepare me for middle school, high school, college, and the rest of my life.
So yeah, that's my amazing school in a nutshell! We have great facilities, teachers, and opportunities to explore our interests and talents. I'm proud to be a Parkway Panthers and bleed blue and gold. This place will always have a special place in my heart. These are some of the best years of my life that I'll never forget. I'll truly miss it when I eventually have to move on. But I'll take all the skills and memories with me. Go Panthers!

My School
My name is Emily and I'm a 5th grade student at Oakwood Elementary School. I love my school and I'm going to tell you all about it!
Oakwood is a big red brick building surrounded by lots of trees and a huge playground. When you walk through the front doors, you enter into a bright lobby area with shiny floors. There are comfy benches where parents can sit and wait. The walls are covered with colorful student artwork and motivational posters. My favorite poster says "Dreams Don't Work Unless You Do!"
To the left of the lobby is the main office where the secretaries work. They're always nice and help kids who are late get checked in. There's also a health room attached to the office in case a student gets sick or needs minor first aid. To the right of the lobby are the doors to the gym. The gym is ginormous with a basketball court, rock climbing wall, and jungle gym. We have PE class in the gym twice a week.
Down the main hallway are all the classrooms for kindergarten through 5th grade. The kindergarten and 1st grade classes are closest to the lobby. Then you'll find the 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms. Finally, at the end of the hall are the 4th and 5th grade classes, including my classroom!
My teacher's name is Mrs. Henderson and she's the best! Her room is decorated with tons of educational posters and charts about math, reading, science, you name it. We have a big carpet in the middle where we sit during circle time. There are bunches
of books in the classroom library. My favorite part is the hamster cage - we get to take turns feeding Nibbles and cleaning his habitat.
At the back of the classroom are the cubbies where we keep our backpacks and supplies. We also have two huge closets filled with crafting materials, instruments, games, and more. Next to the closets is the computer lab area with desktop computers that we use for typing practice and educational games. There's also a small kitchen area with a sink, microwave, and mini-fridge.
Outside of every classroom is a drinking fountain and bathrooms. The bathrooms are small but clean with a few stalls. We only get to go during scheduled breaks though! Other than that, we have to ask for a bathroom pass.
In the middle of the school is the cafeteria where we eat lunch and breakfast if we come early. The cafeteria workers make the food on site and it's actually pretty good most days! My favorite is pizza day. There are long tables that can fit around 20 kids each. At the front of the cafeteria is a big stage where we have assemblies and performances.
Behind the cafeteria are the doors that lead outside to the playground, basketball courts, soccer field, and nature trail. The playground has slides, swings, monkey bars, and other fun
equipment to play on. The soccer field has goals on each end and baseball diamonds overlapping the outfield. I love playing kickball at recess!
The nature trail winds through some woods behind the school grounds. It's a nice little hike with signs pointing out different plants, trees, and animals. At the end of the trail is a little outdoor classroom with wooden benches where teachers sometimes have class in nice weather.
Back inside, there's also a music room filled with instruments of all kinds - drums, xylophones, keyboards, guitars, and more. We have a music class once a week where we learn songs and rhythms. At the end of the year, we even put on a little concert for our parents!
Next to the music room is the art room which has two huge sinks for cleaning brushes and lots of counter space to work on projects. The walls are always covered with excellent artwork from students in every grade. I love art class!
The school library is one of the coolest parts of the school. It's a huge room filled with thousands of books on every subject you can imagine. The librarian is really nice and

My School
My name is Emily and I am a student in the 5th grade at Oakwood Elementary School. Oakwood is a big school with over 600 students from kindergarten through 5th grade. I really love my school and I'm going to tell you all about it!
The Building
Oakwood is a pretty old building that has been around since the 1950s. It's made of red bricks and has a huge playground out back with swings, monkey bars, and even a basketball court. The front of the school has a big lawn with some trees and flowers planted around the edges.
When you walk in the main entrance, you enter into a big hallway we call the main corridor. The principal's office is right there when you come in, along with the school secretary's desk. There are lots of display cases along the walls showing off artwork and projects from students. My favorite is when they put up the handprint turkeys we make every Thanksgiving!
If you go down the main corridor and take a right, you'll find yourself in the cafeteria. It's a really big room with tons of tables that get super loud when we're all in there eating lunch. The
cafeteria ladies are really nice and they make pretty good food. My favorite is chicken nugget day!
Branching off the cafeteria is a hallway where you can find the music room, art room, computer lab, and gymnasium. The gym is huge and has a rock climbing wall, basketball hoops, and ropes you can climb up. We have PE class in the gym a couple times a week.
If you go left from the main corridor instead of right, you'll start finding all the classroom hallways. There's the kindergarten hall, the 1st grade hall, all the way up to the 5th grade hall where my class is. The classrooms are spacious with lots of desks, cubby areas, reading nooks, and even a small bathroom in each one. We get to decorate our classroom door every month with a new theme.
At the very end of the school is the library. It's a super cool space with tons of books along all the walls. There are little nooks with green cushions where you can curl up and read. Sometimes we even have class in the library and get to check out new books.
Out back behind the school building is the huge playground area I mentioned earlier. It has different sections for different grade levels. The kindergarteners have a smaller play area with
little climbers and bouncy animals. The bigger kids have jungle gyms, sliding boards, swings, and open areas to run around.
My Favorite School Subjects
Now that you know about the building, let me tell you about my favorite subjects! I absolutely love math class. I'm really good at solving problems and doing computations in my head. Sometimes my math teacher even uses me to help explain concepts to other students. Math is just FUN!
I also really enjoy science because we get to do lots of hands-on experiments and projects. Last month we studied ecosystems and even built our own mini-ecosystems in bottles that we can watch over time. Science is super interesting and teaches me so much about the world around me.
Another favorite is art class. We have art once a week and I look forward to it every time. We've made all sorts of creative things like clay pinch pots, watercolor paintings, paper mache sculptures, and more. I just love being able to express myself artistically.
Extra Curriculars
In addition to the regular school day, I also participate in a few after-school activities. One is the school's Robotics Club
where we build and program little robots to do certain tasks and challenges. It's a great way to learn coding and engineering skills.
I'm also part of the Drama Club that puts on a school play every Spring. We spend months rehearsing and working on our acting, singing, and dancing. It's so much fun to perform on stage in front of everyone!
On the sports side of things, I play for the school's basketball team. We practice twice a week and play games against other elementary schools in the area. It's awesome being part of a team and learning teamwork.
My Favorite Things
Now you know a lot about my school, but let me highlight some of my very favorite things:
The playground swingset – I love the thrill of swinging up super high!
Music class - We get to learn fun songs and even play instruments like xylophones.
Field Day - A special event at the end of the year with relay races, tug-of-war, and other outdoor games.
Sleepovers with friends - We sometimes get to sleep over night in the gymnasium!
My teachers - They are all so nice, caring, and make learning fun.
I feel so lucky to attend such a great school like Oakwood Elementary. It has awesome facilities, fun activities, and an environment that really lets me learn and grow. I'm going to be so sad to leave after 5th grade! Thanks for reading about my awesome school.

My School
My name is Emma and I'm in the 5th grade at Oakwood Elementary School. Oakwood is a really great school and I love going there every day! Let me tell you all about it.
The Building
Our school building is pretty big with two floors. When you walk in the main entrance, you're in this huge hallway they call the Commons Area. That's where we line up in the mornings before class starts. There are lots of windows so it's always bright and sunny in there. Off the Commons is the office where the
secretaries work, the principal's office, and the nurse's room in case someone gets sick or hurt during the day.
Down the main hallway are all the classroom wings. Kindergarten through 2nd grade rooms are in the East Wing,
3rd-5th are in the West Wing, and the middle school kids have their own separate building connected by a hallway. At the end of our Wing is the Library which is my favorite place in the whole school!
The Library
The Library is awesome! It has like a million books on every topic you can imagine - fiction, non-fiction, biographies, reference books, you name it. The shelves go all the way up to the high ceilings. In the very middle is a cool sitting area with couches and beanbags where you can curl up and read.
Mrs. Franklin is the Librarian and she's so nice. She's always recommending new books for me to check out. Sometimes authors even come and do book readings and signings! Once a year they have a Bookfair where you can buy all kinds of books and school supplies. I always beg my parents to buy me lots of new books.
My Favorite Class - Art
One of the best things about Oakwood is that we get to take art every week. The art room is downstairs and it's stocked with every kind of art supply you can think of - paints, colored pencils, clay, stamps, and more. We've made puppets, weavings, ceramics, you name it. Art is my favorite special because you can be creative and make whatever you want.
My least favorite class is probably Math because I'm just not that great at it. But my teacher, Mr. Thomas, is really nice and he never makes you feel dumb, even if you don't understand something right away. He has a way of explaining things that makes sense. I'm working really hard in Math this year to try and get better at it.
Other Fun Things
At Oakwood we have lots of other cool things too. We get to go to the Computer Lab once a week to practice our typing skills and learn coding and other tech things. We have a big playground with swings, slides, and climbing structures. And we have an awesome gymnasium where we have PE class and they hold school events like the Science Fair, Art Shows, and Music Concerts.
Last month we had International Day where each classroom learned about a different country or culture. We made displays,
performed dances and songs, and sampled foods from all over the world. My class was Japan and we did an amazing Japanese dance wearing kimonos! It was so much fun.
Sometimes we even get to go on field trips. My favorite was when we went to the Nature Center and got to go on a long hike through the woods. We saw all kinds of cool plants, trees, birds and animals. I also loved our trip to the Planetarium where we got to see shows about the solar system and galaxies projected all around us. Field trips are the best!
The Best Teachers
What really makes Oakwood so wonderful though, are the teachers. All of my teachers have been amazing, kind people who really care about the students. They push us to work hard but they make learning fun too. You can tell they're not just doing a job, they really love teaching kids.
My 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Peterson, is the best. She's young and has a great sense of humor. She's firm when she needs to be, but she never yells or gets frustrated with us. She uses a lot of hands-on activities to help us understand new concepts. And she reads to us every day before dismissal which I look forward to so much.
I'm really going to miss Oakwood next year when I move on to middle school. I've been here since Kindergarten so it feels like a second home to me. I have so many amazing memories from my time here - making friends, learning new things every day, all the fun events and activities. Oakwood helped shape the person I am today and gave me a strong foundation for the future. I'll never forget my wonderful elementary school!

My School
I love my school! It's called Oakwood Elementary and it's the best place ever. I've been going there since kindergarten and I can't imagine going anywhere else.
The school building itself is really nice. It's a big red brick building with lots of big windows to let in plenty of sunlight. There's a huge playground out back with swings, monkey bars, and even a rock climbing wall. The playground is where we spend our recesses running around and playing games like tag or four square. Sometimes we have picnic lunches out there when the weather is beautiful.
Inside the school, my favorite place is definitely the library. It's a huge room filled with thousands of books on every topic
you can imagine. The librarian, Mrs. Robertson, is really nice and always helpful when I can't find a book I'm looking for. I love going there during my free periods to read or just explore the stacks running my hands along the spines of the books. The library even has these cool computer stations where you can look up books and play educational games.
All the classrooms are great too. They're big and bright with lots of natural light coming through the windows. The desks are in groups so we can easily work together on projects and assignments. Each classroom has a SMART Board at the front where our teachers can display information, videos, and interactive lessons. It's so much better than those old chalkboards or dry erase boards!
The best part of Oakwood though is definitely the teachers. They're all so nice, caring, and very knowledgeable about the subjects they teach. My favorite is Mrs. Wilkins, the 5th grade science teacher. She always makes learning science fun with tons of hands-on experiments and projects. Just last week we got to build and launch our own model rockets! The other teachers are awesome too - like Mr. Hansen who teaches social studies, Mrs. Griffin the reading teacher, and of course, Mr. Adams the principal. No matter what, the teachers at Oakwood really care
about us kids and go out of their way to help us learn and succeed.
There are so many great programs and activities at my school too. We have an amazing music program where we can take lessons in band, orchestra, or chorus. I'm in the band and play the trumpet. We even got to go on a field trip to hear a professional orchestra perform last year! The art program is stellar too, with endless supplies to work with like paints, clay, and more. I'm really looking forward to the annual art show this spring to display my latest masterpieces.
Sports are huge at Oakwood as well. We have all kinds of athletic teams and clubs you can join like soccer, basketball, baseball, track & field, and even tennis. Go Oakwood Otters! I played soccer and basketball this year which was a blast. We even got to travel to other schools in our district for games and competitions. Playing sports is such a great way to stay active, learn teamwork, and make new friends.
There are so many other fun things about my school like the awesome science fair every year, the Geography Bee, the spelling competitions, and of course the totally delicious food they serve in the cafeteria (pizza day is my favorite!). Oakwood really does have it all.
While I'll eventually have to move on to middle school and then high school, I'm going to be really sad to leave Oakwood Elementary behind. It's been such a huge part of my life for the past six years. The teachers, the facilities, the activities - everything is truly top-notch. I've learned so much, made incredible friends, and have so many amazing memories from my time at this wonderful school. Wherever I go next, I'll always look back fondly on my days at Oakwood Elementary. It's been an incredible place to learn and grow. I'm really going to miss it!。
