----The Time Traveler’s Wife
1. Introduction
Try to imagine, a rose blooms on a silent wide snow land. What does this mean? It means the stagnation of time and eternity. In 21 century which we live, whether the blooming of the rose shakes you in your heart of hearts or not? When the love is worthless, could you keep silence to think in the sound of rose’s blooming? I wander. When the movie, The Time Traveler’s Wife, went on acting. I was moved and finally felt sentimental. How should we face the fairy tales happened in modern society?
2. Movie Review
Destiny and eternal love are the themes of this beguiling love story in which time is the compass by which two lovers navigate. This movie has an interesting topic that is really deep and ultimately sad. The ending was beautiful though philosophically, bring on the rain. Metaphors come to you from all directions. Time travel is just a metaphor for the distance between two individuals in a relationship. I love the beginning of the film. Clare said “I keep myself busy. Time goes faster that way. I go to sleep alone, and weak up alone. I take walks. I work until I’m tired. I watch the wind play with the trash that’s been under the snow all winter. Everything seems simple until you think about it. Why is love intensified by absence?”
Henry was just a librarian. It was hard to get accomplishment though he fought all his life. However, what the most important was to travel across the time. He kept company with Clare and went through her happiness and sorrow in her growth. In the boundless time river, Clare was always a child who never turned old. She waited patiently along the bank of time river till the very end, because she knew that her love would come to her in a bright afternoon.
Such a marvelous love blew me away. Most of us thing that true love does not exist, however, this movie proved that theory wrong. It happened before this two people had realized that Henry was able to travel across the time. They have met each other for numerous times before they got married. Because of this, Henry was very curious. He wanted to know what kind of travel he had on the future time all the time. Clare never refused Henry. Her memory was just like a microwave over which reheated their love.
I was deeply moved when they got married. Henry was so nervous that it made him travel
again. At that time, the bride was standing on the lawn, waiting for Henry, and she did not know that Henry was not there already. So Henry traveled back to the wedding ceremony to give Clare a perfect wedding without regret in the future time.
They shared their happiness and sorrow in their peaceful marriage. However, their daughter’s birth not only brought them joy, but also opened the door to sorrow. Little Clare inherited her father’s talent that she was able to travel across the time as well.
Parting is such a sorrow. Death who was never late appeared to take away Henry’s life. It was like a small boat that was sucked into vortex of the time. No matter how hard Clare tried to call, Henry would never come back from the abyss of time. Clare had to float on the time river alone from then on.
I thought that the story would stop here and leave the audience a midnight full of sighs. Fortunately, the story continued. Clare’s life was still full of waiting and surprise in the time river after Henry went away. In a sunny afternoon, Henry went through the time river and came to Clare to stay with her and their daughter.
At this time, the familiar and touching scene was back. Clare ran on the wilderness which flowers bloomed, wore beautiful clothes, just like the year when she was 6 years old. She knew that her love would come to meet her again.
What the most touching is that Clare wrote her diary when she was 82 years old. She said “Today is not much different from all the other days. I get up at dawn, put on slacks and a sweater, brush my hair, make toast, and tea, and sit looking at the lake, wondering if he will come today. It’s not much different from the many other times he was gone, and I waited, except that this time I have instructions: this time I know Henry will come, eventually. I sometimes wonder if this readiness, this expectation, prevents the miracle from happening. But I have no choice. He is coming, and I am here.”How marvelous it is! Although it sounds like an infinite circle, we can never tell that who met whom first and who fell into love with whom first. We know for sure that they love each other, from the past to the present and till the future.
3. My Point
This film displays an impalpable story which is impossible to happen in real life. However, it is what the essence of fairy tales. It was a distant but warm dream in which Henry changed the one-dimensional time to make the dream of 6-year-old Clare to continue. Some people call it fate, a tragedy. But it is an enduring love story that love has no boundaries even between time and space. It
is a beautiful fairy tale, though the ending was not that the prince married princess and lived a happy life. The Time Traveler’s Wife is much more touching than any other fairy tales. It was a fantasy, a fantasy about love and time, a fantasy about love and wait. In the endless floating in the time river, each of us hopes to be Henry or Clare. It means harvest of happiness, because happiness means the circulation of time which makes Henry and Clare become the real prince and princess in the fairy tale. Love can stand out of time and distance.
Love is eternity, and time does not count。
