第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

21.(6分)Dutch beachcomber (海滩拾荒者) Wim Kruiswijk has accumulated a collection of 1,200
messages-in-bottles over the course of nearly 4 decades and has responded to almost all of them, 68-year-old Kruiswijk says that his unusual hobby began in 1983 when he found three drift bottles (漂流瓶) on his
local beach, each containing letters and return addresses. He wrote to all three addresses and was surprised to receive responses from each one. It was this experience that aroused his interest in hunting and collecting messages in bottles, and he hasn’t stopped looking for them since.
“I find my messages in bottles on the beach of Zandvoort, where I live, and on the Dutch Islands,” Kruiswijk recently told Great Big Story. “Messages in bottles is slow mail. It takes you days, or weeks, or months to find a bottle. ”
In the early years, Kruiswijk would find as many as 50 bottles a year, but since 2000 that has slowed to around
20-30 finds, mainly due to beach cleaning efforts. He believes that the rise of the Internet has also played a role in the diminishing number of messages in bottles, telling Dutch news site PZC, “I used to get a response at half the bottle messages that I answered. Now that’s less; many people want ‘instant satisfaction’.”
Throwing a message in a bottle out into the sea is a longstanding human tradition dating back to the time of the Greek philosopher Theophrastus, about 310 BC,who used the bottles to study water currents. Scientists still apply the method to this day, as a means to help researchers develop ocean circulation maps, and to crowdsource scientific studies of ocean currents.
In the past bottles have also been used to send distress messages from sailors in trouble. They also have been used for memorial tributes, or to send loved ones’ ashes on a final journey. One of the more common uses though is just to send invitations out to prospective pen pals, a quaint notion in these modern times, but, as Kruiswijk so clearly shows, an effective one.
1、What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us?
A.Kruiswijk found secrets hidden in drift bottles.
B.What made Kruiswijk become a beachcomber.
C.How Kruiswijk formed the hobby of collecting drift bottles.
D.Kruiswijk liked to do some research on bottles thrown into the sea.
2、How did Kruiswijk feel the first time he received response from drift bottles?
A.Satisfied.
B.Asionished.
C.Frightened.
D.Disappointed.
3、Why do Kruiswijk find fewer drift bottles than before?
A.People hate to receive messages from strangers.
B.Many drift bottles have not been washed up onto the beaches.
C.Drift bottles appearing on the beach are cleared up rapidly.
D.Fewer peop le are interested in Kruiswijk’s message in bottles.
4、What’s the purpose of Theophrastus using the bottles?
A.To ask for rescue.
B.To look for a pen pal.
C.To study ocean currents.
D.To send a message to his loved person.
22.(8分)The First Hello
The man from the telephone department got off the bus, and made his way to the tea stall, wiping the sweat off his head, face, then slipping his handkerchief under his shirt to wipe his neck and back. It was a year ago that the phone line had been installed, six months later men from the public works department had come to put up the phone booth—a neat box-like structure, with a glass window, and wooden ledges, yellow in colour. And days after that, a painter had taken an entire day to colour in broad, black brushstrokes, the words: STD Booth, local and STD allowed.
No one could tell that the last word had been misspelled. Besides, he had taken the entire day. After he had a cup of tea, he left, waving cheerfully. And now months later, someone else was here again.
Everyone watched the man as he sat on the bench. No one said a word, and soon the sound of him slurping his tea filled the hot afternoon. A few leaves fell, heavy in the heat, and sometimes a car passed, on its way to the main city farther away.
When the man had finished, he tried to pay but the tea shop owner who sat behind his steaming kettle and the washed upturned cups, waved him away.
“You are our guest here.”
So the man took his handkerchief out again and wiped his face.
They crowded around him as he shut himself up in the phone booth. When the children pressed their nose against the glass, he shooed them away, as he took out a shiny black soon changed to an excited yell as they saw him dial a number, pressing a finger into the ringed dialer of the phone and letting it go all the way in a half-circle. A while later, they hear him say into the mouthpiece, “Hello.”
“Hello, ”the children around the booth took up the cry, the teashop owner broke into a smile and the men waiting for a bus smiled and said hello to each other. The sadhu(印度的僧人)who sat under the banyan tree nodded wisely. As the sound carried, more hellos were heard. The women winnowing grain giggled as they tried the word tentatively, the shepherds feeding their flocks called out to their sheep, laughing as they used the word.
“It’s a big occasion, ”said the headman, in an awed(敬畏的) voice.
“It is.” agreed those around him. The telephone man emerged and handed over a small chit of paper to the
headman. “This is the telephone number.”
The headman looked at it respectfully as if it were a mantra(符咒). The others around him read out the numbers slowly, digit-by-digit.
The telephone man was now too tired to notice the cheering around him. He knew he had to wait long before the bus to take him back arrived. As he sipped his second cup of tea, he remembered something else.
“Oh, you can’t start using the phone now. The minister will come next month and inaugurate it. ”

The boy, Teddy, held a birthday party on Sunday at Peter Piper Pizza in Tucson, where he and his mother, Sil Mazzini, had been expecting dozens of little girls and boys—as well as the children's parents—to join them at the restaurant. Mazzini said a few people told her in advance that they couldn't make it, but she wasn't prepared for everyone to be no-shows.
Mazzini shared a photo of her son sitting alone in front of several pizzas on her Facebook page. That brought dozens and dozens of birthday wishes from around the country, as well as other gifts and offers.
"I live near Tampa, Florida, and heard about you via my local news," one woman wrote on Facebook. "I hope you have a wonderful year and I'm sending you a big hug." The biggest unexpected birthday present for Teddy came from the Phoenix Suns, who invited him to watch Wednesday night's game at the Talking Stick Resort Arena against the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James. The city's professional soccer club, the Phoenix Rising, also invited Teddy to "join 7,000 of his closest friends" at a playoff game on Friday.
But some on social media questioned Mazzini's decision to broadcast her son's humiliating day. "Quick! Someone call the news. Don't embarrass this kid even more than he already is," one woman wrote on Facebook. "Good lord. This is so wrong. "

24.(8分)Boomerang children who return to live with their parents after university can be good for families, leading to closer, more supportive relationships and increased contact between the generations, a study has found.
The findings contradict research published earlier this year showing that returning adult children trigger a significant decline in their parents’ quality of life and wellbeing.
The young adults taking part in the study were “more positive than might have been expected” about moving back home – the shame is reduced as so many of their peers are in the same position, and they acknowledged the benefits of their parents’ financial and emotional support. Daughters were happier than sons, often slipping back easily into teenage patterns of behaviour, the study found.
Parents on the whole were more uncertain, expressing concern about the likely duration of the arrangement and how to manage it. But they acknowledged that things were different for graduates today, who leave university with huge debts and fewer job opportunities.
The families featured in the study were middle-class and tended to view the achievement of adult independence for their children as a “family project”. Parents accepted that their children required support as university students and then as graduates returning home, as they tried to find jobs paying enough to enable them to move out and get on the housing ladder.
“However,” the study says, “day-to-day tensions about the prospects of achieving different dimensions of independence, which in a few extreme cases came close to conflict, characterised the experience of a majority of parents and a little over half the graduates”.
Areas of disagreement included chores, money and social life. While parents were keen to help, they also wanted different relationships from those they had with their own parents, and continuing to support their adult children allowed them to remain close.
1、What is the finding of the previous research?
A.Boomerang children made their parents happier.
B.The parents were looking forward to their children’s return.
C.The parents’ quality of life became worse than before.
D.Boomerang children never did any housework.
2、The underlined word “trigger” in Paragraph 2 may be best replaced by _____.
A.cause
B.defeat
C.arise
D.allow
3、What is the attitude of the college graduates towards returning home?
A.They are ashamed of turning to their parents for help.
B.They are glad that they could come back.
C.They are doubtful about whether they should return.
D.They are proud to be independent from the family.
4、What can be inferred as the reaso n for the “boomerang children” phenomenon?
A.The children want to keep in closer touch with their parents.
B.The parents are willing to provide support to their children.
C.It is harder for the children to secure a satisfying job.
D.There is more house work needed to be done by the children.
25.(10分)While famous foreign architects are invited to lead the designs of landmark buildings in China such as the new CCTV tower and the National Center for the Performing Arts, many excellent Chinese architects are making great efforts to take the center stage.
Their efforts have been proven fruitful. Wang Shu, a 49-year-old Chinese architect, won the 2012 Pritzker Architecture Prize—which is often referred to as the Nobel Prize in architecture—on February 28. He is the first Chinese citizen to win this award.
Wang serves as head of the Architecture Department at the China Academy of Art (CAA). His office is located at the Xiangshan campus of the university in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Many buildings on the campus are his original creations.
The style of the campus is quite different from that of most Chinese universities. Many visitors were amazed by the complex architectural space and abundant building types. The curves(曲线) of the buildings perfectly match the rise and fall of hills, forming a unique view.
Wang collected more than 7 million abandoned bricks of different ages. He asked the workers to use traditional techniques to make the bricks into walls, roofs and corridors. This creation attracted a lot of attention thanks to its mixture of modern and traditional Chinese elements.
Wang’s works show a deep understanding of modern architecture and a good knowledge of traditions. Through such a balance, he had created a new type of Chinese architecture, said Tadao Ando, the winner of the 1995 Pritzker Prize.
Wang believes traditions should not be sealed in glass boxes at museums. “That is only evidence that traditions once existed,” he said.
“Many Chinese people have a misunderstanding of traditions. They think tra dition means old things from the past. In fact, tradition also refers to the things that have been developing and that are still being created,” he said.
“Today, many Chinese people are learning Western styles and theories rather than focusing on Chinese t raditions. Many people tend to talk about traditions without knowing what they really are,” said Wang.
The study of traditions should be combined with practice. Otherwise, the recreation of traditions would be artificial and empty, he said.
1、What impressed visitors to the CAA Xiangshan campus most?
A.Its hilly environment. B.Its large size.
C.Its unique style. D.Its diverse functions.
2、What made Wang’s architectural design a success?
A.The mixture of different shapes.
B.The balance of East and West.
C.The use of popular techniques.
D.The harmony of old and new.
3、What should we do about Chinese traditions according to Wang?
A.Spread them to the world. B.Preserve them at museums.
C.Teach them in universities. D.Recreate them in practice.
