The woman had died when the rescuers found her after the terrible earthquake. She was covered by a destroyed house. Through gaps (缝隙) of those ruins, the rescuers could see her last posture (姿势). It was something like an ancient person who was kowtowing (叩头),but it just looked strange because she was out of shape by pressure.
The rescuers confirmed her death by touching her through the gaps of the ruins. They shouted at the ruins again and again, knocked the bricks using various tools, but no reply inside.
Then the rescuing team went to the next building. Suddenly the leader ran back, calling “Come here.” He came to the body, put his hands under the woman, feeling and touching, then shouted loudly and gladly,“There is someone,a baby, still living.”
Through some efforts, rescuers cleaned up the ruins which blocked her. Under her body lay her baby, who was covered by a small red quilt(棉被). He was about 3 or 4 months’ old. Since well protected by his mother’s body,he was safe. He was in a deep sleep when the rescuer carried him out,and his lovely and peaceful face warmed everyone around him. The doctor, along with the rescuing team, took the baby out of the quilt to check if the baby was all right, and he found there was a mobile phone in the quilt. The doctor looked at the screen;a written message was already there:“My dear baby,if you could live, don’t forget how much I love you.” As a doctor,he experienced much of this type of separation;but at this moment,he cried. The mobile phone was passed, and every person who saw this message shed (流出)tears.

I suspect that the most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention, and especial ly if it’s given from the heart. When people are talking, there’s no need to do anything but listen to them. Just take them Just listen to what they’re saying and care about it. Most times caring about it is even more important than understanding it. Most of us don’t value ourselves or our love enough to know this. It has taken me a long time to believe in the power of the simply saying “I’m so sorry” when someone is in pain, and meaning it.
One of my patients told me that when she tried to tell her story, people often interrupted to tell her that they had once had something just like that happen to them. Eventually she stopped talking to most people. She was just too lonely. We connect through listening. When we interrupt what someone is saying to let them know that we understand, we move the focus of attention to ourselves. When we listen, they know that we care. Many people with cancer can talk about the relief of having someone just listen.
I have ever learned to respond to someone crying by just listening. In the old days I used to reach for the tissues(纸巾), until I realized that passing a person a tissue may be just another way to shut them down, to take them out of their experience of sadness and grief. Now I just listen. When they have cried all they need to cry, they find me there with them.
5.The author intends to tell us .
A. the art of listening
B. the importance of listening to others
C. how to keep a talk going on
D. how to ease a patient’s pain
6.In the last paragraph, the author suggests that if a person is crying, you should .

A. care about it
B. Just listen
C. Don’t interrupt
D. Mean it
C
The airline pilot announced over the intercom (对讲机), “Folks, I've got good news and bad news for you. The bad news is... we're lost. The good news is ... we're making great time!”
It's too easy to live our lives like that, isn't it? Making great time, but not sure if we're heading in the right direction.
It's been said,“Millions_expect_immortality_(不朽)_but_do_not_know_what_to_do_with_themselves_on_a_rainy_Sunday_afternoon.” The
problem is: They know they would like to achieve something important with their lives or to make a difference, but when it comes to making the journey towards those destinations (目的地), they feel stuck. In short, they are lost.
Author and speaker Danny Cox, in his book Seize The Day, tells of a man who made a great success of his life in spite of many hardships. He didn't want to just sleepwalk through life, nor look back someday and feel regret. The moment that finally turned this man's life around was when he sat down and asked himself four important questions:·What do I really want?
·What will it cost?
·Am I willing to pay t he price?
·When is the best time to start paying the price?
It occurs to me that one of these questions is the most difficult: What do I really want? We need to spend enough time deciding on the answer. But once we figure it out, the other questions will be easy.
Answer these four questions and we will get clear on the direction we want to take our life. Devote ourselves to these answers and we'll make great time.

A. don't have any actual goals
B. don't know how to reach their goals

A. Working hard.
