《英语(1)》课程作业答案(1)
作文:
My Favorite Sport
Just as lots of teenagers take to pop music, I love basketball. It’s part of my life. I began to play basketball in my childhood. I still remember the good old days when I played with my classmates after school. Later on, as I grew up, almost everything changed, but this sport—playing basketball remained and my love of it grew even stronger.
I love this sport because it brings joys and health to my life. When I got tired from office work, I went to the sports ground and felt refreshed. If there were worries and cares from daily life, I went to the sports ground. There everything went away except basketball. It is basketball that keeps me in good shape and mood.

The Computer
The computer is fast, and rarely makes a mistake, while people are too slow, and full of mistakes sometimes. That's what people often say when they talk about computers. For over a quarter of a century, engineers have been making better and better computers.
Now a computer can do a lot of everyday work wonderfully. It is widely used in factories, hospitals, banks and universities. A computer can report, decide and control in almost every field. Many computer scientists are now thinking of making the computer "think" like a man. With the help of a person, a computer can draw pictures, compose music, talk with people, play chess, recognize voices, and translate and so on. Perhaps computers will one day really think and feel. Do you think people will be afraid when they find that the computer is too clever to listen to and serve them?

《英语(1)》课程作业答案(5)
Wealth and Health 财富与健康
As a joke goes, the young try to accumulate wealth by sacrificing their health while the old are desperate to restore health by wealth they have owned. The fast-paced modern society places its members in a dilemma: if one wants to possess great wealth, he will have to keep busy all the time, which would always endanger his health. Wealth seems to be too attractive to resist, for the industrialized society prices almost everything that one needs to survive. Health, however, cannot be earned in the way wealth is obtained but can only be consumed. Once health is neglected, it can be hardly regained in the future. Therefore, the question of wealth and health should attract great attention from the public so that they might make the balance.

In a modern city, there are many means of transportation, such as subway, taxi, bus and so on .But my favorite means of transportation is by bike.
First, riding a bike is good for keeping healthy. I spend one hour riding a bike to my office on my working day, and I think it is a good form of physical exercise .Secondly, it is money-saving .Recently, the private car drivers always complain the price of gas is higher and higher, but if you ride a bike, it will cost you nothing. Thirdly, it is beneficial for protecting the environment, so it is a “green” form of transportation.
Therefore, although it has some disadvantages, I like riding a bike best.

Passage 1
The dark smoke that comes out of stacks or from a burning dump contains tiny bits of solid or liquid matter.
The smoke also contains many gases, most of which cannot be seen. Altogether, they make up the serious problems of air pollution. In so many places it keeps us from seeing the sun, irritates our eyes, causes us to cough and makes us ill.
Air pollution can spread from city to city. It even spreads from one country to another. Some northern European countries have had “black snow” from pollutants that have traveled through the air from other countries and have fallen with the snow. So air pollution is a global problem. It can kill babies, older people and those who have respiratory disease. In 1952, four thousand people die in one week as a result of a serious air pollution breakout in London. In 1948 in a small town of Pennsylvania, 20 people died in a four-day period of air pollution. As often found in cities, air pollution increases the risk of lung disease, such as bronchitis and asthma. Of course, smoking and other factors help to cause these illnesses, too, but these causes have increased greatly during recent years as air pollution has become worse.

Passage 2
Agnes Miller was one of the earliest leaders of the women's liberation movement in the United States. She was born on a farm in Missouri in 1892. She had a very happy life as a child. She was the only daughter and the youngest child of five. Her parents and her brothers always treated her as their favorite.
In 1896 the family moved to Chicago. Three years later they moved back to St. Louis where Agnes spent the rest of her childhood. She enjoyed her years in school and was a very good student of mathematics. She was also quite good as a painter.
It was when Agnes went off to college that she first learned that women were not treated as equals. She didn't like being treated unequally but she tried not to notice it. After graduating from college she tried to get a job in her major field, physics. She soon found it was almost impossible for a woman.
Agnes spent a full year looking for a job. Finally she gave up in anger. She began writing letters to various newspapers. An editor in New York liked her ideas very much.
