Y ou might just miss it.Q : What does the man mean?III. Listening INTask 1: Waiting for the New Harry Potter MovieAmy: I‟m so excited about finally seeing this movie!Peter: Me too. I‟m crazy about Harry Potter. Have you heard that J.K. Rowling has added another book to the series?Amy: She‟s already written Book Seven? I‟m still waiting for Book Five…Peter: I know. Who isn‟t? At least we have the movies to watch in the meantime.Amy: By the way, have you seen the trailer yet?Peter: Yeah. It was great! I think the movie itself will be really scary.Amy: It surely will! All that writing on the wall in blood … It scares me to death just to think about it!Excited/crazy; book; Seven; Book Five; the trailer; scary; the writing; in blood Task 2: A Great ActorThere was once a great actor who could no longer remember his lines. After several years of searching, he finally found a theater that was willing to give him a try. The director said, “This is the most important part, and it has only one line. At the opening you walk onto stage carrying a rose. Y ou hold the rose to your nose with just one finger and thumb, smell it deeply and them say the line in praise of the rose: …Ah, the sweet smell of my love.‟” The actor was excited. All day long before the play he practiced his line over and over again. Finally, the time came. The curtain went up, the actor walked onto the stage, looked at the audience, and with great emotion said theline, “Ah, the sweet smell of my love.” The audience exploded in laughter. Only the director was furious! “Ahhhhhh! Y ou damned fool!”he cried. “Y ou‟ve ruined my play! Y ou‟ve ruined me!”The actor was puzzled, “What happened? Did I forget my line?”“No!” shouted the director. “Y ou forgot the rose!”1. D2. C3. D4. A5. BTask 3: Movie ReviewsI love movies! And after I see them, I like to comment on them. These are movies I saw this year that I would like to recommend: Among comedies I highly recommend “Monsoon Wedding”. It‟s an Indian movie. The story is about an Indian wedding. Preparations for the wedding bring out funny and sad situations touching on love and a past rape. This movie shows some of the wonderful customs of India, and the importance of family and love. It‟s great!Among dramas, I like “Adaptation”. It is an excellent movie! But for me the first part of the movie was too fast to follow. I hope to see it again on DVD with captions.“The Pianist” is set in the Second World War. It‟s about a young Polish-Jewish pianist, who lives in Warsaw with his family. The Nazis sent his family to die in the concentration camps. He was safe, but would have died without unusually good luck and the kindness of a few non-Jews. This is a powerful movie with thought-provoking themes.“Rabbit-Proof Fence” is set in the 1930s in Australia, and it‟s based on real events. It is about three native girls who are separated from their families by the racist police who send them to special centers. There the girls are taught practical skills, and the government tries to integrate them into white Australian society. They ran away from the camp and walk 1,500 miles to find their mothers. This is a sad, touching story that you should not miss.1. He likes to see movies and comment on them2. Four3. Three4. Thank you verymuch indeed for inviting me.A: No problem.Model 2Sample dialogueA: What did you think about The Lion King?B: Well … I think this cartoon was pretty good, but not as good as Beauty and the Beast. It‟s a killer flick (…a killer flick‟ means …a great movie‟).A: Really? But I think The Lion King was unbelievably good.B: I thought it was just OK. Why do you think so?A: Well, it‟s so interesting that the lives of the lions were similar to the lives of human beings. B: Y ou‟re right. The murder in The Lion King was almost the same as the murder in the Shakespearean play Hamlet.Model 3Sample dialogueA: What do you think about the movie?B: I think the plot was first-rate. But I don‟t think the character development was so strong.A: Yes, the characterization was rather weak. Do you think it is because of the casting of the movie?B: No, the cast was strong. But the acting was rather poor. And the lines are not interesting at all. A: Well, maybe. But I liked the heroine of the movie. She is excellent.B: Y eah, I liked her too. She‟s adorable!V. Let‟s TalkAlfred HitchcockAlfred Hitchcock was a British director. His movies frequently show innocent people caught up in situations beyond their control or even understanding.Hitchcock preferred the use of suspense to surprise in his movies. In surprise, the director provides the viewer with frightening things. In suspense, the director tells or show things to the audience which the characters in the movie do not know, and then skillfully builds up tension around what will happen when the characters finally learn the truth. Hitchcock had a great sense of humor. Once at a French airport, a suspicious customs official looked at Hitchcock‟s passport, which was marked simply PRODUCER. The curious official asked, “And what do you produce?”“Gooseflesh.” replied Hitchcock.Alfred Hitchcock always managed to make a brief appearance in hisw movies: He was sometimes getting on a bus, or crossing a street, or walking in front of a store, or across the courtyard in an apartment. However, for the movie Lifeboat in 1944, he was faced with a difficult problem. The entire movie was set in a lifeboat out at sea, and there were only a few characters in the boat. Originally, he wanted to float by as a dead body, but he was afraid he‟d sink! His clever solution was to place a photograph of himself in a newspaper that one of the characters read during thecourse of the movie.VI. Further Listening and SpeakingTask 1: Only One LinePeter had always wanted to be an actor, but never succeeded because he had a hard time memorizing lines. A friend of his told him about a small part in a play. He promised Peter that he could do it because he‟d only have to remember on line. Peter decided to take the part. His only line was, “Listen, I hear the guns roar!”Peter practiced and practiced, “Listen, I hear the guns roar!” On the opening night of the play Peter was very nervous. Backstage, he practiced his line, over and over again, “Listen, I hear the guns roar! Listen, I hear the guns roar!” Finally came his turn, Peter went onto stage. He heard a loud BOOM and cried out in spite of himself (不由自主地), “WHA T THE HELL WAS THA T?”1.memorization lines2. remember one line3. I hear the guns roar4. a loud boom5. his lineTask 2: An Interview with J.K RowlingQ: How did you get the idea for Harry Potter?A: I was traveling on a train between Manchester and London and the idea for Harry just fell into my head. At that point it was essentially the idea for a boy who didn‟t know he was a wizard.Q: Did you always plan to write Harry‟s story in more than one book? If so, how many?A: I always conceived it as a seven-book series because I decided that it would take seven years, from age eleven to seventeen, inclusive, to train as a wizard, and each of the books would deal with one year of Harry‟s life at the school.Q: Any clues about the next book?A: I don‟t want to give anything away, but I can tell you that the books are getting darker. Harry‟s going to have quite a bit to deal with as he gets older. Sorry if they get too scary!Q: Of the many things you must have heard people say about Harry Potter, w hat are some of your favorites?A: My very favorite was from a twelve-year-old Scottish girl who came to hear me read at the Edinburgh book festival. At the end of the festival, the queue for signing was very long. When the girl finally reached me, she said, “I don‟t W ANT there to be so many people here, because this is MY books!” That is exactly how I feel about my favorite books. Nobody else has a right to know them; let alone like them!1. T2. F3. F4. T5. 视听说读写教程2选词填空答案

视听说读写教程2选词填空答案

视听说读写教程2选词填空答案Unit1The Internet has made English learning much easier. English learners used to be (1)(obliged) to spend their time in libraries looking for the books that would help them in their language studies. It was very inconvenient because a lot of materials could only be found in (2)(tedious) and uninteresting textbooks and readers. But today authentic content on a variety of subjects is only a click away. This is especially (3)(beneficial) for those who wants to learn English earnestly. In order to achieve fluency in English, you need to be fortable using at least 10,000 words. The (4)(abundant) materials on the Internet make it possible for you to choose appropriate content to read and listen to. These materials can be (5)(adjusted) to your level if you input some key words in the search engine. But how can you remember the (6) (bulk) of unfamiliar words? In this case, the Internet (7)(evidently)makes it easier to learn vocabulary. You can use online dictionaries to instantly find out their grammatical (8)(functions) and the specific meaning of these words. The Internet helps you to (9)(efficiently) accumulatevocabulary based on lively and interesting language content, which greatly reduces your (10)(distress) caused by inability to remember the new words. The efficiency of this vocabulary learning is one of the reasons why the Internet has e an ideal place to learn English.Unit2Through exploration of the humanities, we learn how to think creatively and critically, to analyze, and to ask questions. Because these skills allow us to gain new (1)(insight) into everything from poetry and paintings to business models and politics, humanistic subjects have been at the heart of a liberal arts (2)(education) since the ancient Greeks first used them to educate their citizens.Research into the human experience helps to (3)(boost) our knowledge about our world. Through the work of humanities scholars, we learn about the values of different cultures, about what goes into making a work of art, and about the (4)(mystery) of how history is made. Their efforts depict the great plishments of the past, help us understand the world today, and give us tools to imagine the (5)(prospect) of our future.Today, humanistic knowledge continues to (6)(promote) the ideal foundation for exploring and understanding the humanexperience. Learning another language might help to (7)(invest) you with great insights as well as gain much (8)(appreciation) of different cultures. Taking a close look at a sculpture might make you think about how an artist's life (9)(affected) his creative decisions. Reading a book from another region of the world might help you (10)(speculate) about the meaning of democracy. Listening to history courses might give you a clearer picture of what the future will be like.Unit3There is a special life stage that our generation goes through. It is the (1)(transition) period, during which we move from teenage to adolescence. We learn who we are and what we stand for and what inspires us. Also, in this period we are (2)(saddled) with a lot of pressure from our parents who want us to make something out of ourselves. My parents have already expressed feelings of (3)(anxiety) over my future with academics and life. When I expressed to them recently that I would not mind graduating in five years instead of four in order to study abroad to (4)(acquaint)myself with theworld, they seemed so shocked. That idea sounded foreign and to them was (5)(equivalent) to lack of ambition.Apart from that, my mother has (6)(expressed) to me that she is worried that I am not searching for a boyfriend. I (7)(resent) this stupid idea of marrying out of college since it does not suit me one bit. Women today can get what they want out of life without a man, even children, as it es more (8)(acceptable) for women to adopt children.I personally want to stay in school as long as I can to (9)(reinforce) my academic work, possibly plete a law degree and start a career, and then after, and only after, begin to think about (10)(shifting) to marriage. If my math is correct, that means I will be more or less “ready" for marriage at the age of 29 or 30, the age when my mother had me.Unit4Traditional dating is a self-paced, general meeting of two people. The two usually(1)(mence) with spending extra time together, getting to know one another and seeing how (2)(tempting) they could be to each other. A good example is a man meeting a woman and sensing her (3)(charm). He thenextends a formal invitation for a date. With traditional dating, you get to go at a steady pace, (4)(allowing) yourself and your date to get to know each other through extensive contact. There are many (5)(ponents) that can be expected from traditional dates. Men, who are supposed to (6)(display) these traditional values, will open the door for the woman, stand up when she leaves the table, pay for everything, and (7)(proceed) to the next move. In the1950s, a man would usually ask a woman out several days ahead for a specific date and time. If she accepted, they would (8)(arrange) for a time to pick her up. He would then take her to a dinner and a movie.Today the rules of traditional dating are less clear. Twenty years ago, if a young lady asked a men out on a date, it was thought to be (9)(weird). Now, women are being encouraged to take the initiative and ask men out. A date may consist of a brief meeting at a café or a trip to the (10)(local) art museum. Men often pay on the first date, but the woman may offer to go Dutch. The traditional dating style has been found much less mon now.Unit5To spend or save is a question which many people have. There is always a(n) (1)(dilemma) whether one should spend the money that he has earned or save that money for the future. Well, there is no (2)(explicit) answer to the question as different people have different (3)(perspectives) on their life, and that is the reason why some people tend to spend all the money earned while others (4) (retain) control over their money. People who spend all the money do not think much about the future. The only thing that they enjoy doing most is to (5)(derive) pleasure from spending money. For example, if they like a particular car, mobile phone or laptop, they will buy it without giving it a thought. For them, the most important thing is to satisfy their material (6)(appetite). People who have their first job or who haven't married often fall in this category. In the long run, saving is a good (7)(option) for one's life as saving helps an individual to plan for future (8)(urgent) needs. That is also the reason why many peoplesave money for a rainy day. Individuals who can (9)(suspend) their spending save money successfully. Instead of buying on impulse, they delay their purchasing decision and won't be easily (10)(manipulated) by mercial ads. Individuals who have responsibility for their family belong to this category.Unit6Simplifying is not necessarily about less. It can be about more: more time, more enjoyment, more plishment, and more of what (1)(profits) you. If you do a lot of things that don't bring you joy or support your long-term plan, then doing less of that kind of things makes sense because you can't (2)(preserve) everything. The purpose of simplifying is to remove what's not important. To understand what should be (3) (discarded), try to think of activities and things as either assets or obligations. An asset is something that is valuable. Some (4) (corresponding) examples are stocks, bonds, buildings, land, gold, etc., but a little more broadly, an asset is anything that can strengthen and (5) (motivate) you, moving you closer to your goals. However, obligations are debts. An obligation is anything that (6)(weakens) you, moves youfarther from your goals, provides negative stress, creates anxiety, and decreases your health. Then how can you (7)(implement) the idea of simplifying? Think about your daily activities and start with just one area. For example, you may begin with (8)(obligations) by making a long list of your daily activities. Your list may (9) (revolve) around such routines as paying bills and planning a birthday party for a friend, etc. Do the activities get you closer to your goals? If not, (10)(modify) the list. Remove what is unnecessary in order to concentrate more on something important in your life.Unit7It's obvious that women have e a long way as successful professionals. Women in the workplace are (1)(flourishing) as an increased number of women have made their presence felt in many industries and professions. The sector of the female workforce has (2)(expanded) with more and more strength and thus has its (3) (genuine) importance in the professional world.Whether they like it or not, men have to accept that women are marching up the management ladder confidently and (4)(diplomatically). Women used to be much more "quiet andpassive" due to the relatively small number of female employees in (5)(parison) to males. Women today, on the other hand, have begun seeking their (6) (administrative) positions by using all their powers of intelligence.Men are hierarchical and (7)(jealous) of the "beauty power" that allows women to get certain things based on their physical assets. Even though there is a(n) (8)(dispute) whether many professional females got into positions of power by using their appearance to their advantage, the (9)(valid) fact is the majority of women have worked hard to achieve their desired success.Women were considered as (10)(bystanders) in the workplace for many years and it was believed that the only jobs that they could handle were those of teachers or secretaries, but today's women can not only hold their own positions in the workplace, but they also have the dual task of raising their families.Unit8The animal rights movement is a social movement which seeks an end to using animals in the research, food, clothing, and entertainment industries, (1) (hence) being called animal liberation. It advocates the idea that the most basic interests of non-human creatures should be (2)(afforded) the same consideration as those of human beings.Advocates (3)(lobby) for animal rights from different aspects, ranging from the focus on animal suffering in laboratories to the argument that (4)(insists) on not casting animals as properties of human beings. Despite the different approaches, advocates broadly (5)(consent) to the opinion that animals should be viewed as non-human members of the moral munity and should be (6)(omitted) from being food, clothing, entertainment, or research subjects. The idea of (7) (awarding) rights to animals wins the support of several prominent scholars. However, some critics argue that animals are unable to enter into a social contract or moral (8)(pass) and for that reason cannot be granted rights. Only humans have duties and, therefore, only humans have rights. There is nothing wrong or (9)(evil) about using animals as resources so long as there is no unnecessary suffering. From within the animal rights movement itself, there has also been (10)(criticism) of certain forms of animal rights activism, in particular the destruction of fur farms and animal laboratories.。

Let’s TalkThe Origin of the Song “Happy Birthday to You”The story of the song “Happy Birthday to You” Began as a sweet one, but later became bitter. Two sisters, Mildred Hill, a teacher at a kindergarten, and Dr. Patty Hill, the principal of the same school, wrote a song together for the children, entitled “Good Morning to All”. When Mildred combined her musical talents with her sister’s knowledge in the area of kindergarten education, ‘Good Morning to All”was sure to be a success. The sister published the song in a collection entitled “Song Stories of the Kindergarten” in 1893. Thirty-one years later, after Dr. Patty Hill became the head of the Department of Kindergarten Education at Columbia University’s Teachers College, a gentleman by the name Robert Coleman published the song, without the sisters’permission. He added a second part, which is the familiar “Happy Birthday to You”.Mr. Coleman’s addition of the second part made the song popular and, finally, the sisters”original first part disappeared. “Happy Birthday to You”had altogether replaced the sisters’original song “Good Morning to All”. It was a success, and later published in a collection of songs for kindergartens.Thirty-one years later a man named Coleman published the song without the sisters’ permission. To make things worse, he added a second part, which is the present “Happy Birthday to You”. This new song soon became popular and eventually it replaced the sisters’ first part altogether. Then, in 1916, Patty took legal action against Coleman. In court she managed to prove that she and her sister really owned the song.VI. Further Listening and SpeakingTask 1: KaraokeDalin: It’s Mike’s birthday on Friday, so a bunch of us are going to go to the karaoke bar. Would you like to come with us?Laura: Karaoke bar? You have a special place just for singing? In America, bars sometimes have a karaoke night where the customers can sing a song, but we haven’t special karaoke bars!Dalin: Really? In China, karaoke is a very popular way for friends ro spend time together. We can select the music that ur group enjoys. We mostly sing pop songs.Laura: Do you sing individually or in groups? Singing is not a very in thing, so I don’t sing very well.1. F2. F3.T4.T5.FTask 2: When was music first sent down a telephone line?So you think downloading music from the Internet through a phone line is a really cool modern thing? Not so. In 1896, Thaddeus Cahill Filed a patent on the instrument for transmitting music electronically, and until 1914 he sent music signals down telephone lines with this instrument. And he wasn’t even the first. Elisha Gray transmitted music over a telephone line in 1876, which was the same year the telephone was invented. Gray invented the first electronic music instrument in 1874, calling it the “Musical Telegraph”. Alexander Graham Bell also designed an experimental “Electric Harp” for speech to be transmitted over a telephone line using technology similar to Gray’s. Bell was a speech teacher for the deaf. In 1879 he created an instrument to measure hearing loss. That is why the degrees of loudness came to be measured in bels or decibels. 5-4-2-1-3Task 3: Thank You for the MusicI’m nothing special, in fact I’m a bit of a boreIf I tell a joke, you’re probably heard it beforeBut I have a talent, a wonderful thing‘Cause everyone listens when I start to singI’m so grateful and proudAll I want is to sing it out loudSo I sayThank you for the music, the songs I’m singingThanks for all the joy they’re bringingWho can live without it, I ask in all honestlyWhat would life beWithout a song or a dance what are weSo I say thank you for the musicFor giving it to meMother says I was a dancer before I could walkShe says I began to sing long before I could talkAnd I’ve often wondered, how did it all startWho found out that nothing can capture a heartLike a melody canWell, whoever it was, I’m a fanSo I sayThank you for the music, the songs I’m singing…SpeakingMusical MemoriesTony: Listen! Quick, turn up the radio! Isn’t that “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”Nancy: Yeah, it is, but what’s the big deal?Tony: When I was a little boy, my grandmother took me to see the movie The Lion King. That’s the Elton John song from the movie.Nancy: I still can’t understand why it’s so important to you.Tony: Because it was the first movie I ever saw with my grandma and because I really loved spending time with her. It ismy favorite song of all times!Nancy: The first time Tom and I went on a date, we went to see Titanic. I always think of the song “My Heart Will Go On”as our song!
