KAPPA SIGMA KAPPA – THETA CHI ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP
Established 2002
The Kappa Sigma Kappa-Theta Chi Alumni Scholarship is available through the University of Central Missouri Foundation for an active, initiated member in good standing of the Epsilon Phi Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity. This scholarship is made possible by way of a gift from alumni and friends of Psi Chapter of Kappa Sigma Kappa Fraternity and the Epsilon Phi Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity at the University of Central Missouri. BACKGROUND:
Epsilon Phi chapter of Theta Chi at UCM did not just come into being, and our past bears remembering. Originally our chapter was known as Beta Beta Beta or the Tri Betas for short. It was founded October 19, 1946. It was composed of World War II veterans. Our first sponsors were C.A. Burmeister and E.F. Low. Our first fraternity house was at 218 Tyler. The next year, the Tri Betas associated with Kappa Sigma Kappa, and were installed upon UCM in April of 1947. The brothers were referred to as Kappas. Kappa Sigma Kappa was a southern fraternity that was founded on the Virginia Military Institute campus in 1867 and was one of three original fraternities on that campus known as the VMI Triad members. Kappa Sigma Kappa was once a strong national fraternity with approximately 90 members. During the late 1940’s about one-half of those chapters split with the national and joined Phi Delta Theta fraternity which was one of the three VMI Triad members. Psi chapter, which was the UCM chapter, stayed with the old national.
