参加打扫社区的志愿活动英语作文
My Community Clean-Up Adventure
This past weekend, I had the most exciting time! My mom signed me up to help with a community clean-up as a volunteer. At first, I wasn't sure if I wanted to go. I would have to wake up really early on a Saturday morning. But Mom said it was important to give back and help make our neighborhood look nicer. She also said there would be snacks, so I agreed to do it.
On Saturday, I woke up before the sun came up. It was hard getting out of my warm, cozy bed, but I knew I had made a commitment. I put on my favorite t-shirt and a pair of old jeans that I didn't mind getting dirty. After a quick breakfast, Mom and I headed out.
When we arrived at the meeting spot, I was surprised by how many people were there! There had to be over 100 volunteers. Some were kids like me, but there were also teenagers, adults and even a few senior citizens. A couple people were handing out supplies - we each got a bright yellow vest to wear so cars could see us, a pair of gloves to protect our hands, and a litter grabber tool.
The organizers split us up into teams and gave each team a section of the neighborhood to cover. My team had eight people total - me, two other kids around my age, and five adults. We headed over to Campbell Street to get started.
Wow, I couldn't believe how much litter and trash was everywhere! There were food wrappers, drink bottles, plastic bags, and even an old bike tire lying in yards, stuck in bushes, and scattered along the road and sidewalks. As we walked along, we used our litter grabbers to pick up any bit of trash we could find.
At first, it was kind of fun and satisfying to help clean up the neighborhood. But after a couple hours, my arms started to get tired from having to bend over and reach with the grabber tool so much. The morning sun was getting hotter too, making me sweat under my yellow vest. I was getting pretty hungry as well since we had been working for a while.
Just when I felt like giving up, we turned a corner and I saw the most beautiful thing! In the distance was a bright red fire truck parked on the street. As we got closer, I realized they were handing out ice pops and water bottles to all the hard workers. Thank goodness!
I grabbed a cherry ice pop and guzzled down a cold bottle of water. That really hit the spot. With my energy restored, I was ready to keep on working. A little later, the organizers also brought around a pickup truck filled with portable toilets for bathroom breaks. I didn't have to go, but I was glad they thought of that for the volunteers.
Hour after hour, we filled up more and more trash bags with litter. I couldn't believe how much we were able to collect! By late morning, the whole neighborhood was looking so fresh and clean. Our team even found some money - 3.27 in loose change that must have fallen out of someone's pocket or car. We decided to donate it to a local charity that helps homeless pets.
Finally around lunchtime, we returned to the meeting area with our trash haul. The organizers had set up a little picnic area with sandwiches, fruit, and cookies for all the volunteers. As I ate my lunch in the park, I looked around at how bright and clean everything looked, thanks to our hard work. I felt so proud to be part of the team that helped improve our community.
On the ride home, I was exhausted. My arms and legs were sore, my face was sunburnt, and my shoes were covered in dirt and grime. But it was all worth it! I had spent the day doing something positive to make a difference. Mom said she was
really proud of me for sticking it out, even when it got tough. She could see how dedicated I was.
When we got home, I took a long shower, put on clean pajamas, and crashed on the couch for a nap. Later that evening, we went out for pizza to celebrate a job well done. As I munched on my slice, I wondered when the next community clean-up would be. I can't wait to volunteer again and continue helping our neighborhood look beautiful. It's amazing what can happen when we all work together!。
