2、学习由介词+which/whom引导的定语从句

Step1 W arming up
Introduce the topic of music through asking some question such as “Are you fond of music ,Are you good at singing, Can you play a musical instrument”
Ask students to answer the 4 questions in groups actively while introducing different kinds of music in the world.
Step2 Pre—reading
1.Get the students to discuss the questions with their partners and then ask them to report their work.. Encourage them express their opinion freely
(1)、Have you heard about any of famous bands in the words, please list them if you have (Beatles, Back—street boy, West—life )
(2)、Which one do you like best?
2.Introduce something about “The Monkees”
It is a band formed of 4 persons.They followed the style of “The Beatles”. Now let‟s go on to the reading and find more information about them,“The Band That Wasn‟t”.
3.Learn new words and expressions .
musican , dream of , passer-by , to be honest , break up ,in cash and so on.
Finish Ex.1 on Page 36.Check the answers in groups.
Step 3 Reading
1.Skimming
Let the students listen to the tape and find out the answers to the Ex1 in
comprehending.
2.Second reading
In this part, students will read the text again and try to understand the sentences and the main idea of each paragraph, and then finish the exercise 2 in Comp rending.
Suggested answers:
Paragraph 1:Dreaming of being famous musician or singer.
Paragraph 2:How musicians form bands.
Paragraph 3:How the band got their start.
Paragraph 4:How “The Monkees” became serious about their business.
3. Language Points Focus
First ,you find out the sentences which incloud the attributive clasues in the passage.
Y ou can work in groups. The winner is the group who finish it first.
Then let’s summ up :介词+which / whom 引导的定语从句
介词主要由先行词与关系词之间的关系或先行词与从句谓语动词的关系决定。
1.“介词+which”在从句中作状语
“介词+which”必定位于从句的句首,定语从句就从该介词开始。
如:(1)“单个介词+which”的情况,例如:
①The name by which we were to become famous was chosen by Mike‟s mum.
提示:该结构中“介词”的正确选择方法:
1)由从句中的动词、形容词或名词所确定,
如:①Copper is one of the metals with which we are most familiar.
铜是我们最熟悉的金属之一。
(形容词familiar与with连用)
②How to live longer is a question to which man has tried to find a good answer for thousands of years.
如何才能长寿,是人类数千年来力图寻求良好答案的问题。
(名词answer与to 连用)
2)由被修饰的词所确定
如:He signed an agreement under which he would be entitled to a commission on sales.他签订了一项协议,这可使他获得销售佣金。
3)根据整个句子所要表达的含义来确定
如:The substance in which there are many electrons is a goodconductor.含有大量自由电子的物质,是良导体。
(这个in并不是那个词所特需的)
2.“介词+which”在从句中作定语
这种情况并不常见。
在从句中作定语时“介词+which”一般并不出现在从句的句
首,而是在从句中。
如:More than one hundred elements two thirds of which are metals have been found so far.到目前为止,人们已发现了一百多种化学元素,其中三分之二是金属。
(of which 在此修饰从句的主语two thirds;但which代替了more than one hundred elements,所以定语从句是从elements后面开始。
)
Finish Ex2 on page 37, then ask someone read the sentences oneby one.
4. Scanning
Now you have got the general idea about the passage.For this time,I would like you to scan the text and complete Ex 3 on page 37.

T:Today we‟ve learned a text about the band “The Monkees” and l earnt several different kinds of music,including classical music,rock …n‟ roll,orchestra,rap,folk music,jazz,country music and choral.In addition,we know their success lies in their hard work and unique style of performance.The Monkees worked hard to be a famous band and their special performance styles were loved by people all over the world.
T:So much for today.Here is the homework for you to do so that your knowledge can be consolidated.
1.Recite the key sentences on the text.
2.Finish the word exercise,,Ex.2 on Page 36.Ex.1&2 on Page 70.
3.Collect some information about your favourite music or musicians.
