Today, roller skating is easy and fun. But a long time ago, it wasn’t easy at all. Before 1750, the idea of skating didn’t exist(存在). That changed because of a man named Joseph Merlin. Merlin’s
work was making musical instruments. In his spare time he liked to play the violin. Joseph Merlin was a man of ideas and dreams. People called him a dreamer.
One day Merlin received an invitation to attend a fancy dress ball(化妆舞会). He was very pleased and a little excited. As the day of the party came near, Merlin began to think how to make a great entrance(入场)at the party. He had an idea. He thought he would get a lot of attention if he could skate into the room.
Merlin tried different ways to make himself roll. Finally, he decided to put two wheels(轮子)under each shoe. These were the first roller skates. Merlin was very proud of his invention and dreamed of arriving at the party on wheels while playing the violin.
On the night of the party Merlin rolled into the room playing his violin. Everyone was astonished to see him. There was just one problem. Merlin had no way to stop his roller skates. He rolled on and on. Suddenly, he ran into a huge mirror(镜子)that was hanging on the wall. Down fell the mirror, breaking to pieces. Nobody forgot Merlin’ s great entrance for a long time.

Shopping is not as simple as you may think! There are all sorts of tricks(骗局)at play each time we reach out for that particular brand(品牌)of product on the shelf(架子).
Coloring, for example, varies(变化)according to what the producers are trying to sell. Health foods are packaged(包装)in greens, yellows or browns because we think of these as healthy colors. Ice cream packages are often blue and expensive goods, like chocolates, are gold or silver.
When some kind of pain killer(止痛片)was brought out recently, researchers found that the colors turned the customers off because they made the product look weak and ineffective. Eventually, it came on the market in a dark blue and white package—blue because we think of it as safe, and white as calm.
The size of a product can attract a shopper. But quite often a bottle doesn’t contain as much as it appears to.
It is believed that the better-known companies spend, on average, 70 percent of the total cost of the product itself on packaging!
The most successful producers know that it’ s not enough to have a good product. The founder of Pears soap, who for 25 years has used pretty little girls to promote(推销)their goods, came to the conclusion: “ any fool can make soap, but it takes a genius to sell it.”
68.The underlined part “ the colors turned the customers off”(in Para. 3)meant that the colors __
A. attracted the customers strongly
B. had weak effects on the customers
C. tricked the customers into shopping
D. caused the customers to lose interest
69.Which of the following is the key to the success in product sales?
A. The way to promote (促销)goods
B. The discovery of a genius
C. The team to produce a good product
D. The brand name used by successful producers
70.Which of the following would be the best title for this text?
A. Choice of good products
B. Disadvantages of products
C. Effect of packaging on shopping
D. Brand names and shopping tricks
