阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

The Yao ethnic group live in mountain communities scattered over 130 counties in five southern China's provinces and one autonomous region. About 70 percent of them live in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the rest live in Hunan, Yunnan, Guangdong, Guizhou and Jiangxi provinces.
Half of Yaos speak the Yao language, which belongs to the Chinese-Tibetan language family; others use the Miao or Dong languages. As a result of close contact with the Han and Zhuang cultures, many Yaos also have learned to speak Chinese or the Zhuang language.
Before 1949, the Yaos did not have a written language. Ancient Yaos kept a record of important affairs by carving
notches (槽口) on wood or bamboo slips. Later they used Chinese characters. Hand-written copies of words of songs are on display in the Jinxiu Yao Autonomous County in Guangxi. They are believed to be relics of the Ming Dynasty. Ancient stone tablets engraved (雕刻) with Chinese characters can be found in a lot of Y ao communities.
During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, cattle and iron tools spread among the Yaos in Guangxi and Guangdong. They dug ditches and built troughs (水槽) to draw water from springs for daily use and irrigation. Sideline (副业) occupations such as hunting, collecting medical herbs, making charcoal and weaving (编织) were pursued side by side with agriculture. The Y ao practiced an interesting form of cooperation called “singing-while-digging”. This can still be seen in Guangxi today. At the time of spring ploughing, 20 to 30 households work together for one household after another until all their fields are ploughed and sown. While the group is working, a young man stands out in the fields, beating a drum and leading the singing. Every one sings after him.
本文介绍了瑶族的分布区域,农业及文化情况。
21. Where do most Yaos live now?
A. In Hunan, Yunnan, Guangdong, Guizhou and Jiangxi provinces.
B. In the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

22. Which of the following can be inferred about the written language of the Yaos?
A. Their own written language was created in the Ming Dynasty.
B. Important affairs were written down on wood and bamboo with pens.
C. The Yaos created songs and put them down during the Ming Dynasty.
D. The Yaos have been able to print books written in Chinese since the Ming Dynasty.

Here is some must-kno w information from a handbook on ho w people beha v e in doing business in some countries.
In Brazil
Brazilians are warm and friendly. They often stand close when
talking and it is common for them to touch the person on the shoulder. People often greet each other (particularly women) with light cheek kisses. Schedules tend to be flexible, with business meetings sometimes starting later than planned. But to be safe, be on time. Meals can stretch for hours—there's no such thing as rushing a meal in Brazil. Lunches also can start in the mid to late afternoon. Brazilians are social, preferring face-to-face communication over emails or phone calls.
In Singapore
Singaporeans shake hands when they meet and often also greet each other with a small, polite bow.Business cards should be offered and received with two hands. Arriving late is considered disrespectful. So be on time. Efficiency (效率) is the goal, so meetings and dealings often are fast-paced. Singaporeans are direct in their discussions, even when the subject is about money. Rank is important and authority is respected. This determines how people interact in meetings. For example, people avoid disagreeing outright with someone of a higher rank.
In the United Arab Emirates
In the UAE, status is important, so the most senior or oldest should be greeted first with their titles. The handshake seems to be longer than elsewhere. So do not pull away from the handshake. Women should cover themselves when it comes to dress. Men also tend to be covered from neck to elbows (肘部) and down to the knees. People do not avoid entertaining in their homes, but they also hold business meals at restaurants. Touching or passing food or eating with your left hand is to be avoided. When meetings are one-to-one, if your host offers you coffee, you should refuse. It
might seem odd, but it is a cultural tradition. Coffee should only be accepted if it is already set out or presented.
In Switzerland
The Swiss tend to be formal and address each other by last name. They also are respectful of private lives. You should be careful not to ask about personal topics. Punctuality (守时) is vital, something that comes from a deep respect for others' time. Arrive at any meeting or event a few minutes early to be safe. They also have clear structure in their companies. Higher-ups make the final decisions, even if others might disagree. Neat, clean dress is expected. The Swiss follow formal table manners. They also keep their hands visible at the table and their elbows off the table. It is polite to finish the food on your plate.

If you start each day desperately wishing for an extra hour in bed, the following is likely to leave you feeling even more badtempered. Scientists have identified a “sleepless elite”—a small group of people for whom a lie-in is a waste of time. Rather than being tired, bad-tempered underachievers, they are an energetic, outgoing and optimistic group who can happily and healthily get by on just four or five hours of shut-eye a night.
If that was not irritating (令人恼火的) enough, they are thinner than average, upbeat and seem to have a high tolerance for physical pain and psychological set-backs. American scientists studied an extended family in California and focused on a mother and daughter who appeared perfectly healthy despite their shared lifelong habit of getting up early in the morning, having gone to bed close to midnight. DNA tests showed they had a tiny mutation (突变) in a gene—but it was missing in other family members who slept normally.
University of California researcher Ying-Hui Fu said: “My long-term goal is to someday learn enough so we can control the sleep pathways without damaging our health. Everybody can use more waking hours, even if you just watch movies.”
The research team is now appealing for members of the sleepless elite to come forward to allow their DNA to be studied. Dr.Christopher Jones said: “Typically, at the end of a long-structured phone interview, they will admit they have been texting and surfing the Internet and doing crossword puzzles at the same time, all on less than six hours of sleep.”
The bad news is that just 1 to 3 people in 100 qualifies as a
member of the sleepless elite. Everyone else is simply sleep deprived.
The simplest way to work out which camp you fall into is to think about whether you grab the chance to have a lie-in when you can. If that is what you are to do, you cannot join the likes of Benjamin Franklin and Leonardo da Vinci in the ranks of the sleepless elite. Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill come close to qualifying—but both were fond of taking afternoon naps to top up the few hours of rest they got at night.
如果你每天起床时都巴不得再多睡一小时,那文中的调查很可能让你感觉更焦躁。
科学家已证实存在“夜猫子精英”一族,对这些为数不多的人来说,睡懒觉就是在浪费生命。

I had managed to sell all my papers and was coming home in the snow. It was that strange hour in New York when the workers were walking towards home in the evening. I recognized my father near Cooper Union, a frozen figure in an old overcoat standing by a banana cart (手推车). He looked so lonely; tears came to my eyes. Then he saw me, and his face lit with his sad, beautiful smile.
“Arch,”he said, “so you have sold your papers! Come and eat a banana.”
He offered me one, but I refused it. I felt it important that my father sell his bananas, not give them away. He thought I was shy, and joked with me, and made me eat the banana. It smelled of wet snow.
“You haven't sold many bananas today, Dad,” I said.
“What can I do? No one seems to want them,” Dad said.
It was true. The crowds rushed home; the sky darkened over the New York buildings; the tall street lamps were lit; street cars and bikes went by. Nobody and nothing in the great city stopped for my father's bananas.
“I ought to yell,” said my father sadly. “I ought to make a big noise like other peddlers (小贩), but it makes my throat sore. Anyway, I'm ashamed of yelling; it makes me feel like a fool.”
I had eaten one of his bananas. A voice deep down told me that I ought to pay for it somehow. I must remain here and help my father.
“I'll yell for you, Dad,” I volunteered.
“Arch, no,”he said, “go home; you have worked enough today. Just tell momma I'll be late.”
But I yelled and yelled. My father, standing by, spoke words of praise, and said I was a wonderful yeller. However, nobody else paid attention; nobody listened and came to buy our bananas.
My father tried to stop me at last. He said, “That was wonderful yelling, Arch. But it's just we are unlucky today! Let's go home.”
I insisted on keeping up my yells. But at last my father persuaded me to leave with him.
