We all know that regular exercise is really important for both a healthy mind and body. Research has shown that just five minutes of exercise in a “green space” can help people to keep mentally healthy.
Let’s take a look at some ways to get close to nature and make them a part of your regular exercise plan.
Get on your bike
Cycling is a cheap, easy and fun way to get some good exercise in the outdoors. Try leaving your car at home and going to work by bike one day, if that’s possible. Or get the family together and go on a weekend bike ride. Check out the local paths before you go, and choose a safe one. Make sure you take some healthy snacks with you to keep your energy levels up.
Try some outdoor yoga
Practising yoga can be great for reducing anxiety and helping relaxation, so why not take your yoga mat and try out some asanas (yoga postures)in the open air? Yoga is great for relaxing tight muscles as well as improving strength, control and breathing. Why not finish your practice with some quiet meditation to further calm the mind?
Go running
Instead of spending hours on the treadmill(跑步机), call a friend and go off for a jog around your local park, or some nature paths. If you are used to running on a treadmill, you may find it harder at first, so make sure you have some good, supportive running shoes. You could also find out where your nearest Parkrun is. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.
Join a conservation group
Joining a conservation group is a great way of keeping fit while helping the world around you. Do some research into what’s going on in your local area and you could find yourself helping to plant trees, clear up rivers and so on. You never know it could lead to new friendships, as well as the knowledge that you are doing something productive for your local area!
1. If you want to ride with your family, you’d better ________.
A. have a healthy body
B. check the bikes carefully
C. learn some survival skills
D. make good preparations for it
2. What’s the advantage of outdoor yoga according to the text?
A. Getting closer to nature.
B. Feeling relaxed or peaceful.
C. Keeping active and energetic.
D. Building up people’s bodies.
3. What problem do some people have if they want to run around their local park?
A. It takes them some time to get used to it.
B. It needs some patience to continue.
C. It makes them lose interest in running.
D. It leads them to fall behind their friends.

The rescue of an Austrian skier who was found alive after being buried by an avalanche is being called a “miracle”. Police in Upper Styria — the mountainous and forested region in southern Austria — said they were alerted on Christmas Day that a 26-year-old skier had not returned from the slopes. The man who alerted police said he had managed to get through to the skier’s mobile phone but heard only “cracking noises” on the line, the BBC reported.
A rescue team was able to trace the skier beneath more than 3 feet of snow using an electric avalanche victim’s transceiver(无线电收发两用机), which skiers are required to wear in avalanche-prone areas. They found the man was on a slope of Mount Pleschnitzzinken, in the northwestern area of Upper Styria. “You can’t move under a blanket of snow like this,” Stefan Schrock of the Styria mountain rescue service told Austrian public broadcaster ORF. “The man was extremely lucky that he had a big enough air pocket under the blanket of snow, so he had oxygen too and was able to breathe.”
The man was found about two hours after authorities were first alerted. However, the avalanche hit the region three hours before that when the man was buried in the snow. A rescue team and local police dogs dug the man out of the snow and he was taken down the valley suffering from hypothermia(体温过低). He was otherwise unharmed.
An avalanche also swept across a marked ski trail near the Swiss town of Andermatt on Thursday, injuring two people. Four others were either rescued themselves from the snow unhurt. Police and rescuers searched the snowslide after witnesses said more people might be buried, but the operation ended with police saying there were no more victims. The avalanche occurred mid-morning while many holiday skiers enjoyed mountain sunshine the day after Christmas.
4. Why did the man alert the police?
A. He found two people injured.
B. A 26-year-old skier got lost.
C. He heard only terrible noises.
D. Many people got lost on the slope.
5. How could the skier survive?
A. Only the dog helped him.

A. For two hours.
B. For three hours.
C. For five hours.
D. For a week.
7. What’s the best title for the passage?
A. A terrible avalanche.
B. A Christmas miracle.
C. An exciting rescue.
D. A Christmas ski.

The custom of flying a piece of cloth high in the sky began more than 2,000 years ago in China. Since then, kites have been served in many fields, like doing scientific experiments, powering boats, taking pictures from the air and much more. In fact, kite-flying is a great way to clear the mind.
When Americans Kay and Larry Day found a store selling kites nearly 20 years ago, they decided to buy a few kites for their family. For fun, Larry bought one for himself. “He went out and flew it and decided he needed to go back and get a better one,” Kay remembered. Since then, she and her husband have loved kite-flying. They own
many kites and plan trips around flying them. They also organize a kite-flying event each winter in their hometown in Iowa. “I’m at peace when I’m flying a kite,” said Larry.
Nic O’Neill, president of the American Kite-fliers Association said that kite-flying can be done alone or with friends and family. Kites appeal(有吸引力)to people who like to create works of art or to those who like to combine kite-flying with music. O’Neill said, “Part of the reason I love flying kites is that I have to risk trying and not succeeding. The best way to learn is to go out, undo the string(细绳)and let your kite fly. The perfect condition includes a nice steady wind and a place away from trees and buildings.”
Grant Lovett began flying simple kites as a child, but moved on to costlier and more complex kites as an adult. Today, Lovett likes making his own kites. He builds them from strong, lightweight materials and products designed for sailboats. Lovett attends kite-making classes and looks for new models on the Internet. He makes kites of different shapes and sizes because flying conditions can be greatly different. He also notes that experience makes a difference, and so does the weather and he likes the happy feelings that he experiences when his kite moves through the sky. “It is really calming,” he said.
8. What can we learn from the first paragraph?
A. Kites have been used widely.
B. Kites have developed gradually.
C. Kites have been designed differently.
D. Kites have lost their popularity.
9. How does kite-flying make Larry feel?
A. Excited.
B. Hopeful.
C. Peaceful.
D. Amazed.
10. What do O’Neill and Grant Lovett consider in kite-flying?
A. The flying experiences.
B. The flying conditions.
C. The skills of making kites.
D. The materials for making kites.
11. What is the best title of the text?
A. Kite-Flying Is Fit for All Ages.
B. Kite-Flying Gets More Popular.
C. Kite-Flying Is a Traditional Sport.
D. Kite-Flying Gives a Lift to People.
D
I will never forget the darkness, the pain and strong desire to die.
November arrived grey and busy, and going into an even more stressful December. I was filled with anxious thoughts.
A visit to my father’s grave is often a good chance to cry and when I leave, I feel a little more at peace. But this time was different. I drove home and every night for the rest of that week, I cried.
On Saturday, I watched a TV program teaching baking, and then I started to learn. By the end of the weekend, I had a dining room table covered with sweet treats. I packaged them up in tins, attached a label to each of them with “winter love” on it, and dropped them off on a few of my neighbors’ porches(门廊)before work. It shocked me how much it lightened my mood, seeing a small package lost on a porch.
The thanks I received later from the neighbors made me light up. It felt so good, and it distracted me from my
dark thoughts.
By January I had developed a routine: On Sunday I’d bake cookies and package them up, and on Monday I’d deliver them. Every week I added a few different people to my delivery route, baked a few different kinds of cookies.
Somewhere along the way things started showing up on my doorstep — a homemade cup, a pair of socks with tiny cookies and even a gift certificate from the local bookstore. Every single one melted my heart. But what I really appreciated was how people began to share their own stories of mental health with me. There is no greater honor than to be trusted with another’s life. I was overwhelmed by the love and care of my community. It humbled (使感到卑微)me that something so simple had created such incredible kindness. It reminded me that there was good in me, in my neighbors, in the world.
I was shifting into a new season of light, while letting go of a season of darkness. What had begun as an attempt to bring light into my own darkness had been transformed into a story more beautiful than I could have ever dreamed. It reminded me that there is beauty in being kind. That life is tough, but there is a quiet strength in knowing you are not alone.
12. What can we know about the author from the first three paragraphs?
A. She was in a bad physical condition.
B. She was stressed due to her father’s death.
C. She felt life was too painful to live.
D. She recovered after visiting her father’s grave.
13. After she started sharing cookies with neighbors, the author ________.
A. gained trust and care from them
B. added other things to her delivery list
C. felt her life was no longer busy or stressful
D. found some of them had more mental problems than her
14. What is the author’s attitude toward her future life?
A. Positive.
B. Cautious.
C. Doubtful.
D. Concerned.
15. What is the main purpose of this article?
A. To express gratitude to caring neighbors.
B. To speak of the benefits of baking cookies at home.
C. To share how being kind helped her regain hope.
D. To show the importance of a closely-connected community.
五、七选五(每小题2分,共10分)
What If We Don’t Get Along?
Teachers want to get along with you and enjoy seeing you learn. But teachers and students sometimes have personality clashes (人格冲突). 1 If you show your teacher that you want to make the situation better, he or she will probably do everything possible to make that happen. Take these steps if the problem seems difficult to solve:
Talk to an adult you trust, such as a parent, guidance counselor, or both.
2 You may not feel immediately comfortable with your teachers, but that may change as you get to know one another.
If you’ve given it time, talk with your parents about what to do next. Lots of times, a meeting can be set up to discuss the problem. 3 Everyone’s goal should be to create trust and kindness.
Your relationship with your teachers is often your first chance to develop a “business relationship”. They are different from your family relationships and friendships, which are built on affection and love. 4 But they don’t necessarily need to be good friends or like each other a lot. They simply need to respect one another, be polite, and stay focused on the jobs at hand.
When you act this way, and remember that you’re not the only kid in the class, you are helping your teacher. 5 Teachers also like it when students follow directions and when they learn and obey the rules of the classroom. For instance, there may be rules about listening when another student is talking, about taking turns, or about raising your hand when you want to say something or ask a question.
A. Give it time.
B. This can happen between any two people.
C. This may clear the air and make things better.
D. Your teacher is likely to notice this and appreciate it.
E. Therefore, those teachers rarely show respect towards their students.
F. A teacher cannot necessarily answer all the questions his students ask.
G. In a business relationship, both parties get something out of the relationship.

Bobby was getting cold sitting out in his backyard in the snow. Bobby didn’t wear boots; or rather, he didn’t own any. The thin sneakers he wore had a few holes in them and they did a poor job of keeping out the cold.
Bobby had been in his backyard for about an hour already. Try as he might, he could not come up with an idea for his mother’s Christmas gift. He shook his head as he thought, “This is useless. Even if I do come up with an idea, I don’t have any money for a gift.”
Wiping tears from his eyes, Bobby started walking down to the street where the shops were. It wasn’t easy being six without a father, particularly when he needed a man to talk to.
Bobby walked from shop to shop, looking into each decorated window. Everything seemed so beautiful but so out of reach. It was starting to get dark and Bobby reluctantly turned to walk home when suddenly his eyes caught the glimmer(微光)of the setting sun’s rays reflecting on something on the roadside. He reached down and discovered a shiny dime(—角硬币).
Never before has anyone felt as wealthy as Bobby did at that moment. As he held his newly-found treasure, warmth spread throughout his entire body and he walked into the first store. His excitement quickly turned cold
when salesperson after salesperson told him that he could not buy anything with only a dime.
He saw a flower shop and went inside to wait in line. When the shop owner asked if he could help him, Bobby presented the dime and asked if he could buy one flower for his mother’s Christmas gift. The shop owner looked at Bobby and his one dime offering. Then he put his hand on Bobby’s shoulder, saying, “You just wait here and I’ll see what I can do for you.” As Bobby waited, he looked at the beautiful flowers and even though he was a boy, he could see why mothers and girls loved flowers.

第二节【答案】
Paragraph 1:
A few minutes later, the shop owner came out. There, before Bobby’s eyes, lay twelve red roses, with leaves of green and tiny white flowers all tied together with a big silver tape. “That will be a dime, young man.” the shop owner said, reaching out his hand for the dime. “Could this be true? No one else would give him a thing for his dime!”Bobby thought. Sensing the boy’s hesitation, the shop owner added, “I just
happened to have some roses on sale. Would you like them?” This time Bobby did not hesitate and took the flowers with gratitude.
Paragraph 2:
With the bunch of roses in his hands, Bobby walked out of the door and then broke into a run. Within minutes, he was at home, still breathless. “Look, Mum, what have I bought for you?” Bobby called out in the backyard. His mother could hardly believe her eyes upon seeing the beautiful flowers in front of her. “Merry Christmas!”Bobby said and began to tell her everything he had experienced in the flower shop. Mother took her son in her arms, tears of happiness streaming down her cheeks. Standing in the bitter cold air, they somehow didn’t feel cold at all.。
