Dear Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul,
Most people don't really know what pressures a typical teenager has to go through. Sure, our parents and grandparents were once teens, but things are so different now. It has never been tougher to be a teenager.
It had never been more important to be in the “right group〞 or to have the “right brand〞 of shoes. And those are the easy things to deal with. We also face problems with family, friends, relationships and school pressures.
When it gets to be too much,I turn to my friends. One friend I could not live without is Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. Your books have been so inspiring to me and have helped me to deal with and understand the problems I go through.
For example,I went through a confusing time with my friends when we got to junior high. I had known these friends since kindergarten, and
when we began junior high it seemed like some of them began to change. We started hanging out with different groups, and we slowly grew so
far apart that it seemed as if we had never been friends. I felt confused and hurt.
Sometime during this period I read the story Friends Forever in Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul Ⅱ.I felt so much better after reading it. It was like a weight had been lifted from me when I realized that many friendships went through changes and that we
weren't the only friends to experience them.
People change, but that doesn't mean we have to lose the friendships we once shared. My friends and I still spend time together when we
can and care about each other a lot. That things are different doesn't mean I have to forget about all the good times we had.I will always keep the memories in a safe place in my heart.
Sincer ely,
P eter

You may be surprised to learn that one of the best steps you can take to protect your health is to step outside and spend some time in the grass, dirt and water.
Our ancestors enjoyed the healing power of nature, and now scientists are starting to catch up.According to research in recent years, just having a view of nature has been shown to improve hospital patients'
recovery and reduce illness rates among office workers. Also, exposure to wildlife, horseback riding, hiking, camping and farms can be helpful for a variety of health conditions in adults and children. Much of this type of research is focusing on children, and in fact an entire movement has quickly developed to connect kids with the healing power of nature.
Obesity (肥胖(féipàng)).Rates of childhood obesity have grown sharply in recent years, and this is partly because of reduced outdoor
activity time.Increasing the time students spend learning about nature, both in and outside the classroom, would help solve this problem.Such lessons are often more attractive for students and often lead them to become more active outside.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)(注意力缺失
症).Exposure to ordinary natural settings in the course of common afterschool and weekend activities may be effective in reducing attention deficit symptoms in children.Participation in green activities—such as nature walks—helped ADHD patients from a wide range of backgrounds to stay focused and complete tasks.
Stress.Access to nature, even houseplants, can help children cope with stress.
Depression and seasonal emotional disorder.Major depression requires medical treatment, but physical activity, especially outdoors, can
help ease symptoms. For your average case of winter blues, experts suggest spending time outside every day and,if possible, taking the family to a sunny vacation spot in midwinter.
Experts emphasize that you needn't go to wilderness preserves to enjoy nature's benefits—simply walking in a city park or growing in
a rooftop garden can make a difference.
60.What can we infer from the first two paragraphs?

63.Who are the intended readers of the passage?

The Partnership says soap is important because it increases the time that people spend washing.Soap also helps to break up the dirt that
holds most of the germs. And it usually leaves a pleasant smell, which increases the likelihood that people will wash again.
It also says washing with soap before eating and after using the

Choosing a nice mountain bike for you is easier than learning how to ride it.Keep these tips in mind:
Decide how you are going to use your new mountain bike.
Are you a new rider who simply wants to travel outdoors on the weekend, weather permitting?Do you intend to test yourself on the rough roads, every day, rain or shine?Or are you going to use your new mountain bike to ride to and from school or work?Be honest about your intentions, and you're more than half way toward choosing the right mountain bike for you.
Visit your local bike shops.
Any good bike shop will stock a wide range of quality mountain bikes in all price points and sizes.Your local bike shops will carry more than one brand of bicycle. Not only will they sell you a mountain bike
that suits your needs, but they will service what they sell.Visit at least a few shops. You'll get one that satisfies you right away.
Don't be bashful.
Tell your salesperson how you intend to use your new mountain bike, and how much you are willing to spend.Your salesperson will show you a selection of models and brands accordingly. He or she will also help you determine the right size for you.You may ask more without any sense of shyness.
Take a test ride.
All good bike shops let customers take test rides. There's a good reason for this beyond“trybeforeyoubuy〞salesmanship.Since you already know your price range and find the right size, you now have to find out which brand you ride best. They want you to be happy with your purchase. After only a few test rides from more than one bike shop, the right mountain bike will choose you.

I’m usually fairly skeptical about my research that concludes that people are either happier or unhappier or more or less certain of themselves than they were 50 years ago. While any of these statements might be reasonable , they are practically impossible to prove scientifically. Still, I was struck by a report which concluded that today’s children are significantly more anxious than children in the 1950s. In fact, the analysis showed , normal children aged 9 to 17 exhibit a higher level of anxiety today than children who were treated for mental illness 50 years ago.
Why are American’s kids too stressed ? The report cites(引用,引证) two cause : increasing physical isolation(隔离)brought on by high divorce rates and less involvement in community , among other things and a growing perception that the world is a more dangerous place. Considering that we can’t turn the clock back, adults can still do plenty to help the next generation.
At the top of the list is nurturing (培育(péiyù)) a better appreciation of the limits of individualism. No child is an island . Strengthening social ties helps build communities and protect individuals against stress.
__________________________________________, you can pull the plug on TVs and computers . Your family will thank you later. They will have more time for face-to-face relationships, and they will get more sleep.
Limit the amount of virtual violence your children are exposed to. It’s not just video games and movies ; children see a lot of mur der and crime on the local news.
Keep your expectations for daily routine. It will help you cope with your own anxieties and provide a good model for your kids. Sometimes anxiety is unavoidable . But it doesn’t have to ruin your life.
