April Fool’s Day is supposed to be a day to play jokes on others in the hope of getting a good laugh and making one feel like a fool. However, the April Fool’s Day of 1989 was quite different for my mom and me.
That day my friend Jimmy and I were playing a game. I had dropped down from a bar (横木) many times in the past without ever having a problem, but that day the simple act of dropping to the ground became a nightmare (噩梦). I broke my arm.
Jimmy’s dad heard my crying and rushed out to see what was going on. When he saw the problem, he quickly put me into his truck and went inside to telephone my mom and let her know he would take me to the hospital. As that day was April Fool’s Day, Mom was not buying it and really thought all this was a big joke. Mom was finally convinced by Jimmy’s mom. When she saw me, she broke down in tears because she felt so bad—she originally thought this was just a big prank (恶作剧).
I guess one could compare this to the story of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”. Since I had pulled pranks before, it is no wonder tha t my mom didn’t believe it. I as well as my mom was made to look like a fool that day. We both learned a valuable lesson.
41.What happened to the writer on the April Fool’s Day of 1989?
A.He dreamed a terrible dream.
B.He was hurt by Jimmy.
C.He had an accident.
D.He fooled his mom with his friend.
42.Why did Jimmy’s dad phone the writer’s mom?
A.Because he wanted to play a joke on her.

C.Because he wanted to see how deeply she loved her son.
D.Because he wanted to inform her of the accident.
43.What does the underlined sentence “Mom was not buying it” mean?
A.She didn’t believe what Jimmy’s dad said.
B.She would not like to pay the money.
C.She had no preparation for the bad news.
D.She thought her son deserved (应受) it.
44.Why did the writer mention the story of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”?
A.Because he thought it was his mom’s fault.
B.Because he had a lesson like that.
C.Because he was proud of his story.
D.Because he felt he was luckier than that boy.
45.From the passage we can infer that .
A.the writer’s mom didn’t care much about him
B.the writer was a dishonest person
C.the writer won’t pull pranks as before
D.the writer will lose interest in games

I live with my grandmother in a Beijing yard house. One day last year, I was surprised to see a foreigner coming out of the house next door to ours. He was very tall with brown hair and a pair of glasses.
The first time I saw him, I was too shy to speak to him.“My English is too bad!” I thought. ①我的祖母告诉我说他刚搬进我们的院内。

“I don’t like him,”she
said.“Foreigners aren’t like us. Maybe he’ll play loud music and have parties every night!
I’m sure he’s going to cause trouble.”
Several days later, I met the foreigner as I was walking home after work.“Hello!” he said,“My name is Tony. I’ve just moved into the house next door to yours.” While I was wondering what to say, he continued,“There’s a nice bar down the road. Why don’t you and your family come to the bar and have dinner with me?”“Bars are bad places,”said my grandmother when I told her, but we decided to go.
②The bar was not at all what I had expected. It was in a beautiful little yard house, with several large bookshelves and pictures of Tibet on the walls. Several Chinese people and foreigners were sitting drinking or reading books. I noticed that some of the foreigners were speaking Chinese in a low voice to each other.“Oh, what a civilized(文明的)place!” said my grandmother.
The bar served special “hutong pizzas”. As we ate, Tony told us about himself—he is an expert(专家)in environment. He always likes to be quiet. My grandmother said to me,“He really seems like a very nice young man.” Yes, Tony is my new neighbor, a nice foreigner. 根据短文内容完成下列任务。

Ⅸ.My Most Embarrassing Moment
As time passes, I will forget many things. But I will never forget my most embarrassing moment!
When I was a student in Grade Three, one day I got up late, so I ran to school as quickly as possible.
When I arrived at school, the final bell was ringing. I had no time to think and rushed into the class. The students had strange looks on their faces. At that moment, I realized that I was in the wrong class.
When I was ready to leave after saying sorry, a boy said loudly,“Look! She’s wearing different shoes!”I looked at my shoes and ran away with the students’ laughing.
You can imagine how embarrassed I was at that time!。
