Objective: Students will be able to identify and differentiate between the four types of sentences: declarative, imperative, interrogative, and exclamatory.
Materials: Whiteboard, markers, worksheets
Procedure:
1. Introduction (5 minutes)
a. Begin the class by asking students what they know about sentences.
b. Write the word "sentence" on the whiteboard and ask students to brainstorm different types of sentences they have learned.
c. Introduce the four types of sentences: declarative, imperative, interrogative, and exclamatory.
2. Explanation (10 minutes)
a. Explain each type of sentence with examples:
- Declarative sentence: Used to make a statement or express a fact. (e.g. "The sun rises in the east.")
- Imperative sentence: Used to give an order or make a request. (e.g. "Please write your name on the paper.")
- Interrogative sentence: Used to ask a question. (e.g. "What time is it?")
- Exclamatory sentence: Used to express a strong feeling or emotion. (e.g. "I am happy!")
b. Draw a diagram on the whiteboard to visually represent the four types of sentences.
3. Practice (15 minutes)
a. Give students a worksheet with different sentences labeled as declarative, imperative, interrogative, or exclamatory.
