Do you remember when your grandma told you the story of Snow White? Ah, the happy days of childhood! But did you know that Snow White comes from Germany? It's just one story from the 209 in Grimm's Fairy Tales (《格林童话》).
The Grimm brothers started to collect fairy tales in 1806. Their first book came out (出版) in 1812. Why are German fairy tales so interesting? Maybe it's because they come from a great place famous for its stories – the Black Forest.
The Black Forest is in southwest Germany. It's the largest forest in the country – and one of the most beautiful. It's famous for its trees and lovely views. There are valleys and waterfalls (瀑布) there. It's a good place to start a story.
Don't forget to bring something back if you visit. People there are good at making clocks, musical instruments and watches.

"Years ago when I was at the Grand Canyon, I remember someone coming up to the canyon's edge (边缘), taking a shot with their camera and then walking away, like 'got it–done', barely even glancing at the magnificent scene sprawling (展开) in front of them," Linda Henkel, a scientist at Fairfield University, US told Live Science.
Henkel was surprised by how obsessed (着迷的) people are with taking pictures these days–before dinner, during friends' birthday parties, on museum tours and so on. You know people just like that, don't you? They keep taking pictures because they think that it helps record the moment, but as Henkel's latest study has just found out, this obsession may prevent their brains from remembering what actually happened, reported the Guardian. In her study, Henkel led a group of college students around a museum and asked them to simply observe 15 objects and to photograph 15 others. The next day the students' memory of the tour was tested, and the results showed that they were less accurate in recognizing the objects and they remembered fewer details about them if they photographed them. "When people rely on technology to remember for them – counting on the camera to record the event and thus not needing to attend to it fully themselves, it can have a negative impact on how well they remember their experiences," Henkel explained. But there is also an exception: if students zoomed in(放大) to photograph part of an object, their memory actually improved, and those who focused the lens (镜头) on a specific area could even recall parts that weren't in the frame.
So basically, this study is saying that constantly taking pictures can harm your memory. But shouldn't reviewing pictures we have taken help wake up our memories? This is true, but only if we spend enough time doing it.
"In order to remember, we have to access and interact with the photos, rather than just amassing them," Henkel told The Telegraph. However, previous research has shown that most people never take the time to look over their digital pictures simply because there are too many of them and they aren't usually very organized on their computers.
(1)The author mentioned Henkel's trip to the Grand Canyon to ______.
A . describe the great view of the Grand Canyon
B . complain about some tourists' bad habits
C . point out people's obsession with taking pictures
D . give suggestions on how to enjoy one's tour
(2)Which of the following statements about Henkel's study is TRUE?
A . Taking pictures in a museum tour helps students recognize objects better.
B . Reviewing pictures always helps people bring back memories.
C . Pictures that focus on the details of objects are likely to improve people's memories.
D . People should spend more time taking pictures than studying real objects.
(3)The underlined word "amassing" in the last paragraph probably means ______.

C . How pictures remind us of our past.

Solar storms shake Earth's magnetic field(磁场). They not only influence human technology, but also animals, reported Forbes.
Studies show that many animals use changes in Earth's magnetic field to find directions. These changes provide the animals a general compass(指南针) for south and north. Animals can also use them as landmarks.
For example, scientists have found special cells in part of a bird's eye nervous system(神经系统). They seem to react to changes in the magnetic field.
Some fish species, like the common trout, have cells with magnetic sensors in their nasal cavity(鼻腔). In 1994 "magnetic sense" was also discovered in sea turtles.
Some whale species may use magnetic sense to navigate (导航) the oceans. A dysfunction of this sense may explain the still mysterious beachings (动物搁浅). Sometimes several hundred animals, such as whales and dolphins, are driven out of water along beaches. They usually can't breathe under their own weight and die slowly.

A . Because they are too heavy.

Though it is one of the early memories of my life, there are times when I remember his face clearly, especially his eyes. As he had yellow spots on his eyes, we called him Spotty.
I was seven years old. We had just moved to a new house. It was a dark and rainy night. We had our meal and went to sleep. At midnight I heard a loud thud outside the door. One evening when Spotty returned from his long walk, I saw one of his legs bleeding流血). We dealt with it and gave him food to eat. I was very upset. But the next day, Spotty was up to his usual pranks though he limped(跛行)a bit. I really admired(钦佩)him a lot for his courage.
