就GMAT⽽⾔,平⾏并列是考试中的重点也是难点,英语称其为parallel structure: this is a little bit like making sure that the two sides of a mathematical equation are balance.

1:The airline company, following through on recent warnings that it might start reducing service, announced that it was eliminating jet service to nine cities, closing some unneeded operations, and it grounded twenty-two planes.(A) closing some unneeded operations, and it grounded(B) closing some unneeded operations, and grounding(C) was closing some unneeded operations, while it grounded(D) it closed some unneeded operations and grounded(E) it was closing some unneeded operations, and grounding译⽂:航空公司遵照最近的警告它可能会开始减少服务⽽宣布它将会减少喷⽓机服务到九个城市,关闭不需要的操作和停飞22架飞机。

AE比照 the chemical that is irritating it不如the chemical irritant(irritant在这里是名词)简洁,化学刺激物
就比方在GMAT中我们有这样一条公理 - n..that is (are) adj. 的名词短语构造, 举个例子: a girl who is nice 必然要换成a nice girl.
看出that从句中the chemical irritant的共用

2、GMAT语法比较题之more than结构。

3、GMAT语法比较题之as…as…

常见考题结构是:Like A, B+谓语+宾语;Unlike A, B+谓语+宾语。

2、more than结构考点解析。

如“The diameter of the earth is much longer than the moon.”

3、as…as…

在as…as…

In 1979 lack of rain reduced India's rice production to about 41 million tons, nearly;25 percent less than those of the 1978 harvest(A)less than those of the 1978 harvest(B)less than the 1978 harvest(C)less than 1978(D)fewer than 1978(E)fewer than that of India’s 1978 harvest现在请仔细来看一下这道题。

(B)twice as many apples as it did【正确】本选项正确使⽤了“as(so)……as……”的⽐较句式,补齐省略部分,⽐较结构应为“the same amount of acreage produces twice as many apples as it(指代‘the same amount of acreage’)produced apples(选项中省略为‘did’) in 1910”。

Example:Wrong: The electron named in 1894.Right: Stoney NAMED the electron in 1894.

Example:In the waning days of the emperor's life, the conq uest of new lands on the borders of the empire was/were con sidered vital.

然后再利用语法知识:虽然new lands和con quest做主语都符合逻辑,但是很明显这里of new Ian ds是介词短语作定语,所以主语是con quest。

OG SC 6060. While all states face similar in dustrial waste problems, the predo min at ing in dustries and the ______________ regulatory environment of the states obviously determines the types and amounts of waste produced, as well as the cost of disposal.(E) all states face similar in dustrial waste problems, the predo minant in dustries and theregulatory en vir onment of each state obviously determ ine正确答案E选项,在主句中用了each state而不是all states ,因为while这个连词在这里是although的意思,表示让步的同时表示一种对比。

The Near Earth Asteroid Rendezvous (NEAR) spacecraft will orbit the asteroid Eros for a year, slowly moving closer to the surface of the object to make ever more precise measurements that scientists hope will enable them to understand how the solar system formed some four billion years ago.
A. to make ever more precise measurements that scientists hope will enable them to
B. to make ever more and more precise measurements, which scientists are hoping to enable them
C. for making ever more precise measurements, and scientists hope that they will be able to
D. with the purpose of making more precise measurements than ever, and which scientists hope will enable them to
E. in order to make more precise measurements than it ever did, and scientists are hoping they will be able to

b选项错,which如果在从句中做hope的宾语的话,hope这个词不能hope sth to do,一般是直接引导that 从句i hope that you will be there soon

d with th
e purpose o

New genetic evidence—together with recent studies of elephants' skeletons, tusks, and other anatomical features—provide compelling support for classifying Africa's forest elephants and its savanna elephants as separate species.
A provide compelling support for classifying
B provide compelling support for the classification of
C provides compelling support to the classification of
D provides compelling support for classifying
E provides compelling support to classify

Scientists claim that the discovery of the first authenticated mammal bones in amber 琥珀could provide important clues of determining, in addition to how, when mammals colonized the islands of the West Indies.
A.
of determining, in addition to how, when mammals colonized the islands of the West Indies
B.
in the determination of how and when the islands of the West Indies were colonized by mammals
C.
to determine how mammals colonized the islands of the West Indies and when they did
D.
for determining when the islands of the West Indies were colonized by mammals and how they were
E.
for determining how and when mammals colonized the islands of the West Indies 是不是该选C了。

(1)不能武断地说to do 优于for doing
(3)确保了不影响句意,才去判断to do优于for doing。
