My Awesome Robotics Club Experience
Hey friends! I'm so excited to tell you all about the coolest club I joined this year - the Robotics Club! At first, I wasn't sure if I wanted to sign up because it sounded pretty nerdy. But my friend Jake convinced me to give it a try, and I'm so glad he did because it's been an awesome experience.
When I went to the first meeting, I was a little intimidated because there were a bunch of older kids there who already knew a ton about robotics. The club supervisor, Mr. Henderson, started explaining the basics of programming and engineering principles. A lot of it went over my head at first, but he was really patient and broke everything down step-by-step.
After the intro session, Mr. Henderson put us into small teams and gave us a fun challenge - to build a simple robot that could navigate a basic obstacle course using sensors and coding. My team had three other 7th graders - Jake, Samantha, and
Miguel. None of us knew much about robotics, but we made a great team!
The first few weeks were pretty tough as we tried to design and build a prototype robot with the LEGO Mindstorms kit the club provided. We had to experiment with different configurations of motors, sensors, and structural components. Samantha was a whiz at the computer programming, while Jake had a knack for the mechanical design. Miguel and I worked on prototyping different iterations based on their code and models.
We failed...a lot! But Mr. Henderson kept encouraging us to learn from our mistakes. Whenever we got frustrated, he would remind us that failing is just another opportunity to troubleshoot, innovate, and improve. Slowly but surely, our robotic creation started taking shape.
Finally, after about a month of hard work, we landed on a functional design we were proud of. It was a small four-wheeled robot that could detect obstacles using ultrasonic sensors and navigate around them with its program. We named it the "AvoidoBot" because of its awesome avoidance capabilities.
When competition day arrived, there were so many impressive robots! The high schoolers had these advanced machines that could do incredible tasks autonomously. Our little
AvoidoBot looked pretty puny in comparison. But in the novice obstacle course challenge, it performed like a champ!
Honestly, just completing the course was a huge victory after all our struggles. We didn't actually win anything, but we all felt like champions. Mr. Henderson gathered the whole club and led a big round of applause for our team's hard work and perseverance. That felt so amazing!
Joining Robotics Club has been one of the best decisions I've made. It's not just about building robots (although that's crazy fun!). It taught me so many valuable lessons about
problem-solving, teamwork, resilience, and the value of learning from failures. Those are skills that will help me in all areas of life, not just STEM.
I've made great new friends who share my interests in AvoidoBot and the rest of the members have been super welcoming and supportive. We're planning to level-up and try for more advanced challenges next semester. I can't wait!
If you're reading this and on the fence about trying a new club or activity, I really encourage you to go for it! Stepping out of your comfort zone opens you up to awesome opportunities for growth, fun, and friendship. You might surprise yourself by discovering a passion you never knew you had.
Well, that's my story about falling in love with robotics! Let me know if you have any other questions. Our club is always looking for new members to join the team. With more innovators and problem-solvers, who knows what amazing robot we could create next? The possibilities are endless!

My Favorite Club: The School Gardening Society
Hey there! I'm super excited to tell you all about my favorite club at school - the Gardening Society. It's honestly the best and you should totally think about joining. Let me give you all the juicy details on why it's so amazing.
First off, who doesn't love getting their hands dirty and working with plants? In the Gardening Society, we get to do that every week! We have this awesome little plot right behind the science labs where we grow all kinds of fruits, veggies, herbs and flowers. It's our own little outdoor classroom and community garden all rolled into one.
During our club meetings, we learn so much cool stuff about botany, sustainability, composting and all the ins and outs of gardening. We've got these really nice raised planting beds that we use for experimenting with different gardening techniques.
Last month, we did a whole unit on companion planting where you grow certain plant buddies next to each other to help repel pests and maximize growth. It was so interesting to see how the tomatoes shot up when we planted basil next to them!
But it's not all just nerding out over plants (even though that's fun too!). We also get to harvest whatever is growing and eat the literal fruits of our labor. Nothing beats biting into a crisp carrot or juicy strawberry that you grew entirely from seed. It's probably the most rewarding feeling ever. The cooking club actually teamed up with us last semester and used our fresh herbs and veggies to whip up some amazingly delicious salads and salsas. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
What's also awesome about this club is that we try to use all natural, eco-friendly growing methods as much as possible. We make our own compost bins with food scraps from the cafeteria and mulch everything with leaves and grass clippings. We've totally mastered the art of re-using and recycling! It feels so good to garden in a sustainable way that's gentle on the environment.
One of the biggest highlights of being in the club is definitely our annual plant sale fundraiser. We spend weeks growing flats and flats of beautiful flowers, herbs and veggie
seedlings to sell to the community. People go crazy over our little plant babies! Last year's sale was a huge success - we raised over 1000 to donate towards community gardens around town. It's so satisfying to help make a positive impact.
But you know what the absolute best part of all is? The people! We've got such an incredibly chill, laidback group of greenhouse-loving plant nerds. Even though we're all totally different, we're somehow the closest-knit friend group. We bond over our shared love of making things grow and just hanging out in the garden. It's like our little calming oasis in the middle of a crazy school day.
Our club leaders, Mrs. Miller and Mr. Ramirez are seriously the chillest teachers ever. They guide us when we need it, but for the most part just let us explore gardening throug

Joining Clubs in 7th Grade
Hey there! I'm really excited to tell you all about the different clubs I'm hoping to join this year in 7th grade. There are so many great options, and I think getting involved in a few clubs is going to be an awesome way to try new things, meet new people, and have fun!
First up, I definitely want to join the Art Club. I've always loved drawing, painting, and just being creative in general. The Art Club puts on displays of student artwork around the school and even has an art show at the end of the year to showcase everyone's talents. From what I've heard from some of the older kids, the club does all sorts of cool projects like painting murals, making clay sculptures, and experimenting with different mediums like charcoal or pastels. I can't wait to dust off my colored pencils and sketchpad!
Another club that's at the top of my list is Coding Club. I got a little intro to basic coding in my computer class last year, and I was instantly hooked. Coding is like this fun puzzle where you get to create something from scratch using logic and
problem-solving skills. In Coding Club, you learn different programming languages and work on developing apps, games, websites, and more. It's going to be a great way to build my coding skills in a relaxed, friendly environment. Who knows, maybe I'll create the next popular smartphone game!
If you can't already tell, I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to school subjects. That's why I'm definitely joining the Academic Team as well. This club is perfect for kids like me who just love learning about all kinds of topics - math, science, literature,
geography, you name it. The Academic Team practices weekly to get ready for regional competitions where teams go
head-to-head answering questions from all areas. It's like a huge, exciting trivia contest and I can't wait to flex my knowledge!
Okay, so those are some of the more academically-focused clubs I'm looking at. But I also want to make sure I join a club that's just purely for fun, too. That's why I'm signing up for Chess Club. Chess is one of those classic games that never goes out of style. You've got to think strategically while trying to outmaneuver your opponent. It's a total brain-buster! From what I know, Chess Club has students of all skill levels and they help teach newcomers how to play and improve their game. It'll be nice to join a club without any schoolwork or tests involved. Just playing chess and hanging out with fellow chess enthusiasts.
There are so many other great clubs to consider too - Book Club, Drama Club, Gardening Club, I could go on and on. The hardest part is going to be narrowing it down since I can only join a few due to time constraints and not overloading my schedule. No matter what clubs I end up in though, I'm positive it's going to be an amazing way to get more involved in school, discover new interests, and meet friends who share my passions.
Well, that's my overview of the clubs I'm eyeing for 7th grade! Crossing my fingers I get into my top choices. If you're a new 7th grader too, I highly recommend looking into joining a few clubs yourself. It's going to be an unforgettable year! Thanks for reading, and feel free to share what clubs you're hoping to join as well. The more the merrier!。
