教学目标:
1. Students will be able to understand the grammar item ---- v-ing form used as adverbials through completing the given tasks.
2. Students will be able master the grammar item ---- v-ing form used as adverbials through imitating the sample passage and finishing a piece of translation.
3. Students wi ll be able to gain the idea that v-ing form is a very useful grammar item, which can be commonly used in their writing and speaking.
重点难点:

Students will be able to understand how to use v-ing form to replace some adverbial clauses.
2.Teaching difficulties:
Students will be able to use what they have learned in the class to complete the translation and writing.

教学步骤:
Step one Lead in
Fill in blanks according to the given pictures and words.
Step two V-ing作状语.
1)根据图片内容,用v-ing 填空,使句子完整。

____________________________, he read a copy of China Daily. ( 表时间)
The boy sits before the computer day and night, ____________________. (表伴随)Unfortunately his father died, ____________________________。

(表结果)
____________, he didn’t go to school. (表原因)
______________, you will gain success sooner or later. (表条件)
2)增加一个连词,将v-ing部分的内容改写成一个句子。

•1) Waiting for the bus, he read a copy of China Daily.
•=While he was waiting for the bus, he read a copy of China Daily.
•2) Being ill, he didn’t go to school.
•=As he was ill, he didn’t go to school.
•3) The chicken ran fast, holding a letter with her.
•= The chicken ran fast, and held a letter with her.
•4) Unfortunately his father died, leaving the family even worse off.
•=Unfortunately his father died, and left the family even worse off.
•5) Working hard, you will gain success sooner or later.

3)用v-ing替换短文中句子。

When I was a little boy, I often felt lonely and helpless. My parents were seldom around me, because they were peasant workers. They had to go to some far-away cities to make a living. Because of this, I had to live with my aged grandparents. It wa s
not that my parents didn’t want to accompany(陪伴) me but if they stayed at home, they couldn’t earn enough money to support our family. So during that period, my parents worked hard in the distant city and hoped that I could grow up as a clever and healthy little man.
4)Discover and conclud e (发现和归纳)

如果动词的ing形式的逻辑主语和句子主语不一致,可以为它加上自己的主语。

Step four Rewriting
Rewrite 6 underlined parts in the passage, using V-ing form.
Hans Christian Andersen is a Danish poet and author who did well in his fairy tales. They include The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling and The Emperor’s New Clothes. he was born in such a poor family that Andersen receiv ed little education. Although his parents opened for him the world of folklore(民间故事) ,they couldn’t help more. As they hoped their son could write his own fairy tales, they always encouraged him. At the age of 14, because he had an excellent voice, Andersen moved to Copenhagen to work as a singer and dancer in a theater. A co-worker considered his fairy tales wonderful. Because he took the suggestion seriously, he began to focus on writing. Andersen’s fair y tales are so wonderful that we find that his works are translated into more than 150 languages.
Step five Translation
Translate the brief biography of Wu Changshuo into English, using V-ing form.
吴昌硕是中国画家, 以他优秀的绘画作品而著称。

Wu Changshuo is a Chinese painter, doing well in his paintings. He wa s born in a scholarly family in Jian, receiving good education. At the age of 20, he lived in Suzhou, devoting himself to painting. Later, dreaming about becoming a great painter, Wu moved to Shanghai. Being taught and influenced by painting masters, he made much progress.
