W: Hello, Jack. Congratulations! The score was 3 to 1. You won the game.
M: Thank you, Sally. You watched the match, didn't you?
W: Of course, but when I got to the stadium, the match had already begun.
M: That’s why I didn't see you.
W: Your football team did so well, especially the third goal. That was so great.
M: Yes, but it wasn't easy to win the game. The visiting team is really strong.

W: When is your next match?

W: Working in the media could be fun —there are newspapers, TV, the Internet…
M: Well, let's look. Hmm. How about this? You could be a TV news director.
W: Are you joking? Directing the news would be too stressful!
M: Well, writing for a magazine would be exciting. How about that?
W: No. I' m really more interested in working with computers. Hey, look! Designing interactive media. I’d like that!
M: Designing interactive media? It sounds interesting, but what is it?

W: Our flight has been delayed for 2 hours. My husband will be waiting anxiously at London Airport.
M: You'd better make a phone call and tell him about the situation here.
W: Right. What are you here for?
M: I was at a two-week international conference on Space Technology in Beijing.
W: How interesting! I was there for a tour.
M: Really? How did you find it?
W:Beijing deserves to be the capital of this country. Apart from Beijing, I went to Shanghai, Hangzhou and Nanjing. Those trips are among the ones I've enjoyed most ever. China is really rich in its history and tradition. Is this your first trip to China?
M: No. I come here every year but always on business. I have had no chance to visit tour spots. W: What a pity! Excuse me, I'll go and phone my husband.
Text 10
During his life Dr James Naismith worked as a doctor, taught PE and wrote several books. While he never thought it very important, Dr Naismith is today best known for one thing — he was the inventor of basketball.
Dr James Naismith was born in Canada in 1861 and his first job was at a special sports school in the USA. One day the school principal told James he was having a problem with the students. Because of the heavy snow, the students could not go outside. He told James that they needed a sport the boys could play indoors and gave the teacher two weeks to think of something.
It was on the very last day that James came up with his idea. The "birth of basketball" is said to be on December 21, 1891, when two teams from the school played the first game. It was quite different from the basketball games today. It had 9 players on each team and footballs were used instead of basketballs. Soon after, the game changed to 5 players on each side, using special "basketballs".
Although Dr Naismith did not live to see basketball become the worldwide game as it is today, in 1936, just three years before his death, basketball became an Olympic sport at the Games in Berlin.。
